    I’m currently stripping paint off of an antique dresser using that citrus stripper and love it 😊A lazy hack is to apply it and cover the area with plastic wrap so it can sit longer and not dry out. That way you can take your time and get other things done.

    I use Citristrip for all my projects. Hand sanding is tedious. Takes longer. I get impatient too and remove the Citristrip sooner than I should.

    Each piece of furniture is different. I only paint when it will add value and function. Some pieces of furniture are more valuable in their original state. Some wood will be permanently harmed by stripper. Personally I don't really care for seeing brush strokes and large covered up flaws and fake distressing. I like a nice clean smooth painted finish. That doesn't mean you have to sand all the character out of a piece. But so many chalk painters just ignore chunks of missing veneer and give it a name to try and make it okay. I love that you take the time to strip bad veneer and actually sand without removing all of the character that comes with age. I recently subscribed and am enjoying your videos. Keep up the quality work.

    In the UK we have people who pick up your pieces of furniture/doors etc. Put them in an vat of paint stripper, sand blast or jet wash and deliver back to your door and it’s actually quite cheap.. we had 10 internal doors done for £100

    I’m not a professional either just a DIYer myself. I have found out that if the paint was applied over an existing finish, it’s easier to strip the paint. I have removed paint with this method on painted pieces. Some come out clean. But others have been left with a haze of paint and paint in the tiny pores of the wood. After some investigation I found out that the piece was originally painted from the manufacturer. Now you could sand to bare wood if the piece is solid but a lot of pieces are usually veneer over another wood base. So just beware. Anyways, this was just sharing my experience. Love this channel. And it’s inspirational to me, so thank you!

    Great video! Think I'll be leaving paint on my furniture unless I really, really want the wood look on a nice flat piece. Too much work otherwise lol.

    I wish I would have watched some of your videos first. I have an antique dresser for my daughter. On my first coat of chalk paint was a beautiful turquoise color. And then I brushed lightly with some pink. And then I planned on going over with a little bit of gray and then sanding it down but the paint was extremely clumpy and it didn't look right so now I'm going to have to strip it. And see if I can start over again.😳🙄😔

    I just did that and I strip black chalk paint. Omg that color tinted the piece. So I might have to used bleach to lighten it up, hopefully that works. Thank you for all this info. Always love your videos.

    When people got tired of furniture they painted during the 60's, so many people were stripping furniture. You are really talented with the pieces you have painted, but have you noticed some of the painted furniture and kitchen cabinets online that look dreadful?

    • @ChristinaMuscari

      Thanks. There are some interesting pieces out there. 😬 We all have to start somewhere. That is why I tell people to test out the process on Goodwill finds before they tackle the kitchen cabinets or Grandma’s antique hutch.

Christina, you are absolute professional and I want to get to that level. I don't want to do garbage, if I take the time and effort to make over a piece then I want to do it right. : D

    I have a question and i really hope you can help me out. I have this huge dark wood cabinet or closet (sorry not a native speaker). And it is so dominating my whole living room right now. If I would just want to make it slightly lighter in some corners or ridges to get it a lighter apearance. A bit like some indian closets have, because its has a lot of fine details. Would you recommend white wash or chalk paint? Or are those the same thing?I could really use your opinion. Because I am desperate. Moving it out is not an option because i would need 4 men and a big wallet.😂. I dont want to damage the closet because its antique and very expensive. I would love something easy to remove and not permanent. Is there such a thing?

    While removing chalk paint with stripper or alcohol are you also stripping away the wood finish that was there before chalk paint? I'm trying to do that with my TV stand.

    I hear "you ruined that with paint" so much. It doesn't matter if it's press board or solid wood. People think they are so smart and know what they are talking about. People have been painting furniture as long as there has been paint and furniture available.

    Will citristrip work on particle board laminated with thin wood? I round a rolling cart our for trash and decided I wanted to use it in my small guest room as an entertainment center. The one I have in there now is too big for the space and the tv sits below the end of the bed, making it difficult to watch tv in bed. The piece I want to redo has been painted a dark gray chalk paint and it is gouged and scratched badly. I was going to sand it all off, but after seeing this might try citristrip.

    • @ChristinaMuscari

      Yes, it should. I just used it on a very thin veneer on my nightstand makeover.

    So I have an issue I have never cone across and I've done lots of DIY with chalk paint. So I just started painting an old chair and of course bc it's an older dark piece it started bleeding. Ugh! I stopped immediately! So my question is can I just go over with a dark and do a light dry brush or do I have to prime and go over it. There are TONS OF swirls and small areas I will have to attempt to get in and I am really truly trying to avoid that! Help! Of course no wax I stopped a quarter of the way through with just the white paint. Thank you!

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari 4 роки тому

      You will need to seal it with Shellac to stop the bleed through.

    How does this work with open grain wood like oak? I have a few pieces that have been in the family for generations but would only paint them if it wouldn't leave spots in the pores.

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari 4 роки тому +1

      It might be tricky to get all the paint out of oak without sanding.

    • @piedpiper7051
      @piedpiper7051 4 роки тому +1

      Put down a thorough coat or two of Bullseye clear aerosol shellac (this is the only one that doesn't contain wax) or acrylic and let dry well before painting. If you ever remove paint you'll have a much better chance of the paint being able to be scrubbed from the pores of the oak. If your pieces are very valuable you shouldn't paint but if you do and want to remove it in the future without removing the original historic coating you will probably need to take it to a professional historic furniture conservator.
