Making your wefts shorter will give you natural ends by gluing them halfway between ends and where it's cut off the sick, also mixing the colors of hair on top of each other will give you a better transition like natural hair colors in the mane.

I used the superglue and baking soda method to insert my stabilising wire on the 1:6th horse I repaired. Unfortunately as it sets really hard, the joint close to the break can't be moved now but it's in a more natural position than it was stuck in when I received the broken horse. I still have a 1960's Thunderbolt 'Valour' model which has two broken legs which I am going to replace with two casts that I will take from an existing Thunderbolt horse model. I am going to cast the missing legs with thermoplastic and use Milliput for the replacement limbs (it's similar to Apoxysculpt) and for any cosmetic work that needs doing. The model is really rare so I am taking my time. I love what you did here. You're much braver than I am!
I think the ears look really good btw! The horse who I already fixed has a broken tail too and I really like how you did this one. I will give you my Instagram when I am finished and will tag you for the idea.
GENIUS! idea for shaving pastel! I will be forever grateful! All those layers I know how you feel. I am in the middle of making a dun horse out of a pearly whiteish one and I left the original finish because I wanted it to show through. At the moment it's looking not bad at all. Oh wow I am a big fan of Mozekyto too...she does the best wigs (I am rubbish at rerooting but I can actually make wigs for bigger dolls not the ones I want to make wigs for but the experience helped a lot with hairing model horses. Acrylic yarn and viscose are finer than the usual doll hair so look more natural in small scale things.
