Shooting table is awesome!!!! It is a bombproof bench from Stukeys Benches and you can find it here. Tell them Brandon at Eastmans' sent you! They are a local company and are great to work with. www.stukeysbenches.com/
Thank you for the amazing video tutorial. One you say 1 MOA to hold for wind. If your scope is 1/4” 1000 yards would that equal 4 clicks on the windage elevation dial?
Great instructional video - easy to understand. My Question: Can the 5700 pick up info from a rangefinder & if so which ones? From Republic of Ireland which is almost always windy and wet :)
Yep! It works well with Leica's rangefinders and Sig's new Kilo K series rangefinders that are just coming out can pair via Bluetooth with Kestrel's, too!
the video was great. one question? what is the difference from the Kestrel 4700 Hornady label one and the 5700x. what different benefits sets them apart.
The 5700X has faster firing solutions in the field for multiple extreme long-range targets and has the Applied Ballistics system integrated. The 5700 with Hornady label has the Hornady 4DOF (4 Degrees of Freedom) system integrated. Both are killer systems and it really boils down to personal preference. We have staffers that religiously use the Hornady 4DOF system along with the Hornady 4DOF app and love it!
Two questions on the 5700. Can you change the BC value in the app after trying your BC? Secondly, can you use the 4DOF kestrel with non Hornady bullets?
really good job addressing “ethical” Living out west, there are some absolute goons who are taking 500+ yard shots on elk and completely missing the entire animal.
What was the environmental determining factor that changed the elevation between post and pre kestel shot? I get the difference in the wind but the elevation change was pretty big for a closer shot
Great question Dean. Elevation change. On the video it didn't look like much of a change, but it is deceiving. I don't recall the exact angle, but it was enough to make a difference...more than I thought it would've. - Brandon
If you were to shoot at 600 yards say. Does the kestrel calculate the extra moa holdover; or just the effect the wind would have on it at that distance? I'm asking for those who have custom scope elevation turrets.
Yes, the Kestrel calculates holdover and depending on what optics you have and which Kestrel you have, they can bluetooth connect to each other to give you the info in your rangefinder readout, too.
Hello Brandon, truly appreciate your knowledge and video on the Kestrel calculator. I recently purchased a Bergara HMR 14 6.5PRC rifle and look forward to shooting it. Question, if you purchase the 5700 is there a need for the secondary calculator you had on the WX vane?
Nope...the wind vane is a cool extra tool to get precise wind direction measurements at your exact location, but you can put your best wind direction estimate into the 5700 and you'll be pretty close. Thanks John!
so which data did you take the shot with??? i got they were different from the 2700 to the 5700,,,,not by much but they were different,,,,maybe the 5700 was just a tad more accurate?? i just bought a 2700 and cant wait for it to get here,,,looks like the cats for me as a shooter hunter,,,and i can change profiles or bullets when i need to,,,think im gona like this little toy
can you do a video on using the sig bdx sierra series, kilo range finder and the kestrel 5700? Is that to many things that have to many of the same features or is it worth it to have all? just got a new 6.5-20x52 sierra3 and kilo 1600 but wondering if the 5700 would be over kill.
You can certainly purchase a lower model of Kestrel using the BDX system. The 5700 has more features and a lot of models have ballistic calculators installed in them. Having a 5700 will only make you more precise in your shots. Cry once and spend the money is the route I usually go. I have a Kilo 2200BDX and a Kestrel 5700 Hornady 4DOF. I am running them on a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25×56 ,and Nightforce ATACR 7-35×56.
That shooting table is a Stukey bench. You can check them out here: www.stukeysbenches.com/product-page/stukey-shooting-bench They are used at the Vortex Edge shooting facility in WI and at the Sig Sauer facility in OR. We use it for all of our field shooting videos and personal field/range time.
@@EastmansHuntingJournals thank you. I'm surprised to see that the table not only 70 pounds which is too much for me to move around and also cost almost as much as many rifles

Hi, had a question for you, if I'm shooting at a target that is 360 yards away and dial it in to the Kestrel I would adjust my scope accordingly, I then change my distance and dial into the Kestrel my next target range, say 760 yds, do I dial up my scope from the last or from the zero? And thank you.
The Kestrel will help you dial in from zero. You'd have to make the gap adjustment in your head from 360 to 760 if you want, meaning zero to 760 minus the adjustment from zero to 360, OR you can dial back to zero and go from there to get to 760. Make sense?
Great video, really well shot, clearly explained.
I just got a kestrel 4DOF and this was really informative. Thank you
Great video. Going on first elk hunt with my brother next month and I’m convinced on getting a kestrel beforehand for our 7mm’s
Thank you for this video comparing the two systems.
Glad it was helpful!
Great explanation & demo.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate the feedback.
Wow nice shot, thanks for explaining and your time
great production man!
great vid , and great info , i will now be buying one .

Very well down video! Say... what is your shooting table as shown in the video, and where can I buy it?

hey make a video of how to use a kestrel 2700 on the single target app

If ur afraid of not getting the right wind direction
Get the one with those three spoon scoop wind Guage aka omnidirectional guage

I’m new to the wind meters
Question... Is there a difference between Hornady 4DOF and Applied Ballistics??
Hello Old Man Patriot! Yep, they are 2 different systems.
@@EastmansHuntingJournals can you give the differences in the 2 and if you had to pick one which would you pick? or can they be used simultainously?
Does that measure the angle of attack because that makes a difference in your elevation hold

Can you input ammunition temperature
do you have to do compass set up when you change location with the 5700 elit
With any of these units, it is always best to do a calibration at new locations for the best accuracy possible. Thanks for chiming in Pablo!
which one was right? they both gave different data for windage and elevation 🤔

You'll love the 2700! A good device that's not too techy to help keep things simple if you don't want to use the 4DOF system.
So which is the best choice of wind meter to purchase. The 5500 or 5700
Totally a personal choice. The 5700 allows you to geek out on the Hornady 4DOF system with more features for the shooter, but the 5500 is killer, too.
profiles for air rifles?
Wouldn't it be better to rotate the device over your head so that your body doesn't interfere with the wind reading?
