This match was all about the net exchanges. Indonesians were quite dominant at the net and that forces Rankireddy/Shetty to play from below the net tape level. Additonally, for some reason, Fikri/Maulana's defensive style is the only one that can withstand the attacking play from the Indians. Fikri's defense is just insane in this match. The same reason why Rankireddy/Shetty lost to Fikri/Maulana in China open 2023 last year.

Rankireddy rlly needs to stop those mistakes or else its gonna be tough in the olympics for them
💯 Maufik made the opportunity to keep the shuttle flat and at the net as much as possible to prevent Indian pair from attacking, even forcing errors. I think this is a good strategy against the Indian pair who have the height for attack and offense- puts them out of position and unable to return as easily.
@@hellostephanie I think that's what other pairs have tried to do but failed because Shetty is still an excellent net player and he can handle tight exchanges pretty well. It's just that in this match, the Indonesians were better at it. Plus several errors from the Indian side.

My feeling is that Kevin is already transferred his secret weapon (fast net play) to Fajar and all Indonesian double men members recently. This is because Markus just retired while Kevin will retire soon. I can see that Bagas/Fikri also used the same technique as they are able to beat Reddy/Shetty in two sets. Unlike Kevin, this technique has a consequence, it will drain the energy really fast. This is also the reason why Bagas/Fikri left All England after they beat the Indian pair.

INA played better but it was a bad day for Satwik. One of those days when you are out of your rhythm. Not taking anything away from INA players, they were great. 3rd set would have been fun had IND regained the rhythm
