This traditional / folk dance reflects how rich our heritage is, something we can call our own, raw and indigenous, not influenced by Spanish colonialism. I am Ilocano by roots. Both my parents are from Ilocos Norte. However this particular performance depicts the tradition of Ilocanos of Mountain province. The color, the shapes, the curves, the lights and shades of the performance matched with the hypnotic chants transcend us to the time immemorial when humans were so in touch with the nature so close that their spirits unite to live harmoniously among with other creatures that help sustain the balance in the circle of life.
I doubt the Cordilleras will agree to being called Ilocanos

The word ragragsakan is an Ilocano word which means merriment, and the Kalingas of Lubuagan knew how to celebrate and be merry that they named a dance after it. The Ragragsakan dance was created through the inspiration of Kalinga maidens balancing labba baskets placed on their heads as they carry the things needed by the people during merrymaking which usually takes place during triumphant returns of headhunters or successful peace-pacts between rival tribes.

I am from Lubuagan and actually did not here of "ragragsakan" before. Thanks for pointing it out that this is a Kalinga "inspired" dance because it surely is not a Kalinga "traditional" dance especially also with the tattooed tops. I am wondering if the dancers knows what they are singing about? :) cultural context? We don't "mansakdo" with the labba! :)
hi sir weve got the dance from sayaw books which is researched by Dr, Francisca Aquino. She researched mostly of our Philippine folkdances. there are several interpretation of the book which is restage by several dance teachers. we dance teacher depend only on the dance literatures as we connot go to the dance place of origin for it will take us months to research. The tattoes on the costumes were just added just because we connot perform with the original costume which is topless.

Madam maybe we are not from kalinga. Yet this dance was just taken from sayaw book which is a complilation of philippine foldances by various researchers. The music comes with the book. You have your own right say your comment, anyhow it would be a great help to all filipinos to introduce your own culture. If ever you are part of the kalinga ethnic group i guess its just right for us performers ang interpreters to ask deep apologies. Please comment all the corrections that we should site so we can bring that to Philippine Folkdance Society. thank you and God Bless.

dapat may sarili ka po munang dikin, and syempre nasa practice na din. after that, kahit anong dikin at basket na, kaya mo na. based on my experience po. :)
