During Trump's presidency, it was the first time I owed money to the federal government for income taxes. The economy wasn't great in 2016-2020, and definitely took a turn for the worst during the beginning of covid. He's filed bankruptcy after bankruptcy, lost his family fortune left to him by his real estate mogul grandfather and father. America had the highest deficit during his presidency. Yet, people still think this guy will do a better job for the American economy.
I don’t get it either. And I remember very clearly when my accountant told me how much I was suddenly gonna have to pay as a result of trumps changes to the tax codes. I went from middle class to working poor. And every year I pay more in taxes than trump does. I’m a city employee, first responder, who worked without PPE in direct patient contact during the pandemic and didn’t even get hazard pay, how is it that I pay more than trump and I’m working poor now? He destroyed the middle class. I don’t get how all these maga people can still support him.

Trump's tariffs from his last administration is what shut down manufacturing jobs before the pandemic. His tariff on steel raised the price of everything that used steel.
He promised to bring back manufacturing, coal, build a wall- paid by Mexico, lower prescription drug prices, get out of Afghanistan, huge infrastructure build, “terrific” new health care.

It is not just the price of steel ...ask your farmers. What no-one has mentioned lately is that countries will not stand idly by when Trump applies predatory tariffs. They will impose their own tariffs too, to the detriment of American Exporters, and they will be much, much worse than Trump's. It's called a Trade War for a reason.

You don't need to increase corporate taxes, just cut off their subsidies. John Deere shouldn't have a negative tax rate. Why are we subsidizing oil companies and footing the bill for pharmaceutical research just to have big pharma reap all of the profits?

The same John Deere that trump made move from Iowa to Mexico and announced over 1000 layoffs? The same John Deere that stated for the record after trump tariffs were placed that the entire reason they are leaving the country is "the rising cost of manufacturing in the United States." Brilliant!
Donald Trump's trade wars with China resulted in a U.S. trade deficit of $679 billion. The U.S. economy contracted at the fastest rate since 1946. The national debt increased 40.43%. The unemployment rate reached 14.7%, the highest since the Great Depression. In a Republican mind, increasing the cost of imported goods while decreasing exports due to trade retaliation will lead to American prosperity.
And, under Frump, the farmers needed billions in a bail-out because China retaliated against his tarriffs. Some tarriffs make sense in specific situations - not massive tariff walls around the whole economy.

I don't understand why all these republicans are saying the economy is so bad, The last two years have been crazy good for myself and my family. Everything I'm invested in is through the roof, my business is having one of the best years ever (23 years in business) my employees are getting a great wage and getting all the overtime they want. I have been turning away jobs because we just cant fit them in. If this is a BAD economy I hope it stays bad for a long time!

Things like foodstamps and UBI can boost the economy, while lifting families with children out of poverty and giving them new opportunities. Most Republicans fight tooth & nail against these due to increased spending, but give millions in tax cuts to the wealthy donors.

What about doing something with the requirements that are needed to be eligible candidates to participate in an election and hold a seat in congress. There are some people in congress who have no idea how to do their jobs and that’s because they don’t have any qualifications to be a member of congress and the government is paying them 175 thousand dollars a year plus half a million more offices and travel expenses and hiring staff for a congress member that does nothing to earn the money. This is the reason why Trump was elected president and look how that turned out.

No, but she’s a realist. The most powerful moves to move low income people into comfortable financial situations require Congress to pass legislation. House Democrats passed a hike in the minimum wage, eg.m but Senate Republicans filibustered it to death. She plans to provide better support for people with kids, first time home buyers, stop REITs from buying up huge portions of the housing in an area, then raising rents sky, just to mention a few.
Yeah, I want some relief from my rent that was increased by 1/3 last year. I could even handle the (relatively low) level of inflation without that rent increase. And I don’t live in a corporate-owned apartment.
Nevertheless, this 74y/o southern woman will definitely be voting BLUE up and down the ticket.

There is no such thing as affordable housing where I live and there is a years-long waiting list to get into public housing. I am 2 months behind on my electric bill. I called the electric company before I was late to tell them that I was having problems and they told me that there was nothing they could do to help me UNTIL I was late. They want more than I can afford. They suggested I call Catholic Charities. I'd like a job. I'm highly qualified. Apparently 25 years of experience makes me to qualified. I'd be a receptionist if I could get a job. So while I understand your point, and I am going to vote for Kamala, I want to hear her talk about low income people. There are many of us. I'm $200 from being on the street. Lot's of things I would like to hear about.
There is always a danger of over-promising and under-performing. You better be able to answer where the money is coming from to fund your promises. Say "Taxes" and you are in trouble, electorally. Rich people and corporations are able to avoid taxes legally. Most Tax Legislations have loop holes.
One of the issues with the US thinking we are "the greatest" and being insular, is that people miss that prices are high and rising all over the globe! Many countries are struggling. I'm not an economist (and my understanding is pretty basic), but I watch a lot of news from other countries (a huge chunk from the UK) and lots of places are still recovering from the pandemic and other issues. Brits were worried how they were going to heat their houses last winter. House prices are out of control. So to point fingers at inflation as being a thing caused solely by either of the last two presidents is a little myopic. It probably has its roots in corporate greed and screwing over the middle class. But at least Harris has plans for improving the middle class. Let's not make her find out how hard it'll be with the Rs in charge of either part of congress.

As an Australian, it seems that when we follow the advice of the experts in the US, we fare very well. Now, keep in mind, your government chose not to listen to those experts in two of these examples, and you guys didn't do so well. In my living memory as an adult, it happened when we followed the advice in regards to needle exchange during the AIDS crisis, again with the GFC, it happened with covid, it happened again post covid.
