  • @Weathernerd27
    @Weathernerd27 12 днів тому

    Thats pretty accurate a 747 did run out of fuel over the Atlantic and was barely able to reach the Azores Islands just over 100 miles away. The pilot had a bunch of fuel imbalance warnings but he thought it was instrument error and kept moving fuel to the leaking tank. A tech had forgot to put a screw back and fuel was leaking out of the screw hole. The plane had to land with only a couple critical systems running because when the engines stopped turning no electricity was generated and there was only enough reserve power to run a few things. Landing the plane with most of the systems shut down was not easy.

    The aircraft will have a best glide speed which will mean it could go further than you managed, assuming in your video that you just 'let go' and didn't trim for that speed. Could probably glide quite a lot further than you managed. Less often published, but there will also be a minimum sink speed which will maximize the time in the air but will not allow you to glide as far over the ground

    Only issue is the engines pressurisé the cabin. So after some time you would have to lose altitude so the 20 minutes isn’t quite right.

    note that this requires all engines to stop which is basically never going to happen

      It’s happened. Air Canada 143 did it in 1983, the airplane ran out of fuel, all engines went out.

    And this was with, what looks like sub-optimal gliding speed.
    For an airliner like an A320 (video was a 737, but I know more about airbus. Still the figures around around the same), a general idea is the same, but different figures.
    A320 glidespeed is typically around 220kts for longest time in air. At clean configuration (flaps slats in, gear up) it will descend at around 1500ft/min. From 35,000ft/10668m, it will take 25 minutes to ground, and travel around 90nm/166km.
    For furthest distance, it will be 270kts, where, from 35000ft, you will travel 95-100nm.
    fastest speed to ground will be around 330kts, you travel around 65 miles, but you will get there in less time (obviously since more speed).
    So if there are anyone who has a fear of flying, even if the worst happens and you lose both engines, you have 20-30 minutes before you hit the ground, depending on the terrain height, as well as flight height. 99% of the time you will make a runway, at least in western world. And pilots train for this. And this is really rare nowadays that all engines fail

    How ironic you pick an aircraft that probably does have a non working engine 😂

    What glide speed were you holding? Every plane has a specific glide speed for a given weight. You don’t just glide a plane, big or small. If you fly to fast you don’t glide as far. If you glide too slow you travel even less distance.

    Для определения расстояния, которое самолёт может пройти на планировании, можно воспользоваться формулой по аэродинамическому качеству, оно указывается в РЛЭ или других документах о самолёте. Кстати, в msfs аспект аэродинамики сделан откровенно плохо из-за плохой реализации погодных явлений.
