Today I wants to introduce you a little and inexpensive WS2812B-Controller with lots of great features!
In my first video here I´ll show you a short "How to use/ how it works" (Sorry for the noise, it´s the fan of my power supply :( ).

But now back to the video:
For my video I´ve used a 5 meter long (30LED/m) black IP65 WS2812B stripe.
First of all let´s take a closer look at the cabling.
Be sure to connect it all in the proper way!
A external Power supply (5V/ min. 10A - depend on how much LEDs you wants to control /LED stripe lenght needed)
Controller V+ = red cable from stripe (5V+ power supply)
Controller D = green cable from stripe (LED Data line)
Controller C = for 2812B not used!
Controller V- = white cable from stripe (Ground power supply)
LED stripe second red = 5V+ power supply
LED stripe second white = Ground power supply
After proper cabling lets switch on and start :)!
You can choose the remote in different ways, as seen in my video.
1. option: use the "color ring" to choose the prefered ambient color
2. option: choose one of the 14 great auto patterns (music isn´t necessary in this case) with the "M" up/down wipe
3. you can make slower or faster the sequence with the "S" button
4. and change the pattern direction with the left "D" button
5. finally you can use one of the amazing different 33 music modes (to select with the right "musical note" Button)
Hint: Please note, sometimes it´s necessary to switch the Controller for the first time in WS2812B mode to get it work!
But its very easy.
Only what you have to do is to press the "D" up/down buttons at the same time

andymanone Hey can you help me decide please.I want to buy the X2 or the SP105e but can t really figure out the pro and cons of each.The sp105e is more reliable for conectivity because it has Bluetooth but i dont know if it has the same lighting patterns as x2.

Hi andymanone great video.
It would seem that there are different forms of this controller. I ordered one from a different source some time ago and it only had 27 music modes ans 13 normal models. On pressing the D up/down button it gives me only 1903 and 6803 IC control. The 1903 setting does control the ws2812b strips but only at the lower 400khz speed.
Can you confirm that this is a different controller with the 33 sound modes. Do you get 2812 displayed when changing the IC setting or 1903?
I really want to get the correct controller for WS2812b with 33 music modes and not a possible clone.

Hi modelmanmark, thanks for your feedback :)! About your question: As far I know there exist two different versions of this Controller. So it seems to me, you have the old one (v1.0) with only 27 music and 13 normal modes and not the V2 , that I has shown here in the video. Btw: I just started a request to the manufacturer, and they answered me, that Version 1.0 is sold out and will not be supplied anymore.
I'm only getting 1 led lighting up on mine and the strip is getting hot... any suggestions please? I'm using a 12v power supply.
Bought one, tried with WS2811, powered with 12V, all LED's just light up full white with occasional random flashes of some colours in random LED's, Bought a WS2812B strip, Powered with 5V, all LED's light up full White and nothing else.
Tried with plenty of power for the amount of LED's, and even just 2 LED's on the WS2812B strip with a 8A power supply and still just all White

hi I have 4 times 5 meters ws 2811 60 led / 1m 2 times colerful x1 and 1 trafo 12v 30A and 360 watts and I can press on the remote control what I want and it happens on the band nothing please helps me

I'm interested in using this controller for a project of mine, but I'm a bit confused. Are you only using the data port to connect from the controller to the WS2812B? If so, it seems the 18 amp output of the controller is a bit irrelevant if you have a proper power supply
Hi Benjehman man, thanks for your request! Hmm, I´m not sure if I understand it right? So, as seen in my video, I´ve connected the power supply first with the X1 controller and from there (additional the needed DATA-Line of course) I´m going in chain finally to the 5meter 2812B-stripe. My power supply is of course a little bit "overdressed" ;), for this shown 150 2812B LEDs stripe. As I discribed below, you can calculate the proper power consumption, depend on how many 2812b you wants to control. I think a 5V/ 10A power supply is the proper choice for a 150 LED stripe.

Yes it would seen that I have the older model ever though the seller stated different. Even the instructions included stated 33 music modes but it wasn't.
I did contact the German reseller from your link who said they didn't know how many modes their versions had. Your other link to the Chinese seller states it's a 27 mode model on his/her listing. I am now completely confused as I only want the newer V2. V2 looks like it has more complex sequences..

I got exacly the same problem.. bouth 2 X1 from China, 25dollar, ebay.. should have the V2 for my project but its not. öööööö... Andt the seller says that it is. well..33 modes are not 27. The seller seems completely confused
I´m so sorry to hear that, but I stand very close in contact with the manufacturer, so I can please him to instruct the seller, to update the product informations.
Btw: I´ve two of them and I bought it from the german reseller.

Good news: I´ve just talked with the manufacturer and explained the problem.
He promised me, it´s V2 (33 modes) and promised too, to contact both resellers (the chinese and the german in my description) asap to make sure, that they know now clearly, what they are selling ;)
The problem is the re-sellers don't have any idea on what they are retailing or may be dishonest because they want to offload old stock. In my case the V1 was listed as a 33 mode model It even came with instructions that stated it had 33 modes. Very confusing !!!
You have 4 connections in you led strip and the ws2812b only has 3 connections. Are you sure you can use them on this unit or should I buy the colorful x2
i want to connect 2 roll of 5 meter ws2812b(300 leds) together with Led Strip MUSIC Controller X1. So does anyone know how do i connect them together? "NEED HELP"

@two stripes:
two strips should be possible, (connect both "Data-In" lines to the Controllers D-out connector) so both strips should shows the same pattern.
@Power supply:
the specs you´ll find it inside my description ;), but finally it´s depend on how much LED´s you want to drive.
You can calculate it in this way: every RGB-LED needs at absolute maximum 60mA ((R)20mA+(G)20mA+(B)20mA), for example, if you wants to drive 1 Meter with 60x WS2812B, so finally its a 3,6 Ampere power supply neccessary (for my tests and the video I´ve used a big power supply with 5V/60A (300watts).
unfortunately, I bought the V1 product and it has 27 music templates only. I think template no 27 is random mode and it cycles all patterns. Disadvantage: Speed value has not shown and we won't know the current speed value. No, dimmer mode and cannot adjust its brightness. User manual is very simple, should have included the patterns explanation and user won't guess around. Also the shortcut to switch between IC wasn't mentioned (thanks to Andy for his tips). Hopefully, It can be improved in the next V3 version. Advantage: Easy to use device, audio source can be used with XLR balanced cable for long distance between device audio player. Its function matched with its price.
Hi Joni Law, thanks for your feedback! I´m sorry that you got the older version :(, but the manufacturer promised me, to provide only version 2.0. to the authorized resellers (see links in my description). Maybe the V1 is old stock from other, not authorized resellers.
I did another test on ws2813 and it is not fully functioning, few patterns are not working properly

Der Led Streifen ist genauso angeschlossen wie im Video und alles funktioniert auch... , aber es flackert so komisch.
Wenn ich z.B. eine konsante Farbe möchte, wähle ich eine aus, doch es ist 1. nicht die selbe Farbe wie auf dem Controller und 2. sind da immer ein paar Pixel welche eine andere Farbe haben als sie sollen ):

Hi IceCherryHD, ja, das Problem kenne ich leider auch :(, das hatte ich zum Schluß öfter bei einigen "günstigen" LED-Streifen.
Das Problem lag zu 99% dann immer an schlecht verlöteten 2812 LEDs... Da ja jede LED jeweils immer per "Data IN" ihre Daten bekommt und dann per "Data OUT" das Signal an die nächste LED weitergibt, kommt es dann bei schlechten Lötstellen/Kontakten zu Fehlsignalen und dann zu solchen Effekten :(. Das kann man oft überprüfen, wenn man an der Stelle wo die LED "Fehlfarben" anzeigt, mal den Streifen in Betrieb etwas biegt oder verdreht ,wenn dann kurzzeitig alles okay ist, liegt es 100% an der schlechten Signalführung. Dann evtl nachlöten oder die defekte LED "rausschneiden" (siehe Markierungen) und den Rest der Streifen dann wieder zusammenlöten. Das hat bei mir in den meisten Fällen geholfen.Gruß, andY

Hi IceCherryHD, maybe it could be an issue with an insufficient power supply?Are you sure its a 5V NOT a 12 V supply? Can you try to connect only the X1 to Power, and disconnect the LED Stripe before? What happens in this case? Same result?
andymanone no in that case the controller turns on and is then able To be contolled with the remote. Does it matter from which side of the strip i put the data cable? i think i put it on the wrong side(the oppisite way tue arrows are showing)
Ahh, okay , that it :). You have to insert the Data Signal in the same direction as the Arrow is showed.

Hi Scott, as far I know are the following Controller-IC´s/LED Types supported: WS2811/WS2812B/WS2813.
The 2811 ones will needs 12V, The X1 controller themself works in a range of 5V up to 24Volt, BR, andY

the white one is the X1- Controller and the silver one is a powersupply (5Volts/60A), BR, andy

Why the color of the LED on the remote control is different than the diodes on the LED strip.
Because the remote is set to RGB and your LEDstrip possibly is GRB or BRG. Unfortunately this setting is not adjustable on the controller, just as changing the brightness or setting up the amount of pixels you want to use.
How many led strip i can connect for same effect?

Hi Dmitrij, das steht in der Beschreibung ;). Also es ist ein 5 Volt Netzteil, da die WS2812B zwingend 5 Volt benötigen. Hier im Video verwende ich ein 5V/60A Netzteil aber es sollte auch ein 10A ausreichen , je nach Länge des LED-Streifens :).

ich habe gerade zu hause den X1 an einen 5m 2812b 300led (60led/m) angeschlossen. Mit einem 5V20A Netzteil mit vorne und am Ende Stromzufuhr. Leider funtioniert das nicht gut mit den Farben und auch mit den Programmen. Ich habe schon im Netz geforscht, aber auch keine wirkliche lösung gefunden, schon gar nicht in Deutsch! Kannst Du evtl. mir helfen?? Ich habe auch schon den "D" Button +/- gleichzeitig auf der FB gedrückt, leider nix gebracht bzw. ging dann gar nix mehr....
Hi cinefreak, mit dem "D" Up+Down Button schaltest du lediglich zwischen den verschiedenen LED-Controller-Modi (WS2811/WS2812B/WS2813/USC1903) um, d.h. wenn "garnichts" angezeigt wird, musst du den Modus ändern. Wenn das Ergebnis - trotz richtigem Modus - immer noch "mies" ist, teste zuerst mal mit 1 Meter (Plusleitung nach eine Meter öffnen). Wenn dann alles richtig angezeigt wird, ist der X1 selbst o.k. und nicht die Fehlerursache! In diesem Fall würde ich versuchen, in der Mitte bei ca 2-3 Meter nochmal zusätzlich die 5 Volt einzuschleifen! Ein großes Problem sind leider auch oft fehlerhafte 2812B Stripes , die öfters Kontaktprobleme haben und daher seltsame Muster oder Fehlfarben darstellen :(!!! (Hatte ich in letzter Zeit leider öfters!). Wenn das der Fall ist, würde ich die 5 Meter in 5x 1Meter trennen und jeden einzelnen Meter erst einmal separat auf Fehler testen!

Hi Charis, if you only use a simple RGB SMD 5050 Stripe, unfortunately it doesn´t work! Cause the 5050 stripes works without any "own intelligence" . What you need is a stripe with combined WS2812/2811 controller chip for every 5050 SMD LED.
If you need some hints for the right decision to buy the proper stripe, let me know, I can send you some links...
Thank you .. unfortunately i am very new at this .. trying to set-up a strip around my living room that will do some effects and go with music .. my living room is 35 x 16 feet .. any suggestions would BE APPRECIATED ..... i already purchased a " music RF controler " that really just beats to the music without changing colors or do anything special .. when i saw this " colorful x 1 " i thought it was a better choice so i purchased this also .. but as you say not working wth simple SMD5050 ... so any suggestions will be appreciated .. i did see some on youtube but i want to avoid the programming per song ... etc etc ... My friend .. i hate to be a pest or ignorant when it comes to this things but .. i did ordered and just received the strips you suggested .. ( paid for express shipping also as i was very excited ..LOL ) .. Anyway received them today and connected but again no success... i connected the red strip wire to the V+ on my power supply and the white wire to the V- ..... only one or two lights go on in the middle of the strip ,,, also when i press on the remote the D or S buttons nothing happens .. also if i press the D up and down at the same time the numbers 6803 and 1903 change on the controller but again nothing happens .... any suggestions ??? PLEASEEEEEEEE !!!!!!
I've got the exact same setup, but the LED strip light up, but I can't make the colors change by using the colorFul X1, I tried selecting the IC's but no solution, do you have idea?
Hi, have you tried, to setup the WS2812B Mode? So check this: "Hint: Please note, sometimes it´s necessary to switch the Controller for the first time in WS2812B mode to get it work!

No, seriously, you should keep in mind, thats of course depend on how many WS2812b you wants to control.
Each 2812B needs a current of max 60mA (R+G+B). In my case there is a stripe of 5 meters (30LED/m), 150x 2812B, that means : 60mA x 150 = 9000 mA (9A). So you have to need of course a adequate sizing of your portable battery :).

It would seem that the official manufactures for this product are mokungit.com and as you rightly stated are called Shenzhen Gengyuan Technology Co. based in Shenzhen Gengyuan. If you go to my link your find their 4 official retail outlets including your ebay one. I asked whether the v2's were available on their Aliexpress outlet and they are.
Hope this helps others in avoiding the older V1 models.

The video shows the use of "Audio-In" (so take a look @3:57, there you´ll see on the left side the black Audio-In cable!).

You can use of course Audio-In AND Audio out (in chain to your AMP) but I prefer using an audio mixer to share the signals to my amp and to the Colorful X1 too.
(Thatswhy there is no Audio-Out cable, but it´s finally the same effect :).)

Yeah, DIN, Power, Groud. These work off data and not PWM. cheap ones have 4 wires for RGB and ground.
это не совсем цветомузыка, обьясню почему, Цветомузыка это мигание разных светоисточников под музыку, которые могут быть разделены по частотам, сздесь же другой способ отображения.
Собрано в программе разные эфекты бегущих или моргающих огоньков, так скажем стил моргания,(который выбирается кнопкой, активируется выбраный эффект высоким уровнем сигнала, который мы получаем с динамика, или слинейного выхода, смотря куда потключаемся, есть высокий уровень звпустился эфект,нет сигнала, лента переходит в режим ожидания(тоиш включается как подсветка) поэтому бесполезно угадывать где там басы, а где высокие частоты, )))))) хотя смотритца доворльно неплохо, я бы сказал что это супер моргалка активируемая звуком)))

Hi Barry, yes, I see the problem and I can say, that I got the same issue sometimes with some of 60LED/meter stripes.
What I found out about that issue is, that the Colorful X1 reacts very sensitive to radiation interferences. So maybe you could try to build a electromagnetic shielding around the 2811 wires?BR, andY
