I have over 40 years of experience in welding/fabrication and construction.....never seen anything that impresses me more than your build.....hats off to you! Great job!!!
I own 8 acres I get exactly why you built it and don't sell yourself short you did an outstanding job on this build you are a sharp and clever guy cant wait for more builds like this.
People that have never built a thing in their life sure have a lot of opinions. Tell them to make videos of their work. I love this build for the fact that you made do with what was available to you cheap. thanks for sharing.
It's easy to throw a heap of money at something and buy pre made parts. It takes infinitely more skill and talent to make what one has work and keep costs down.
I’m 65 years old and what I’ve discovered is, there are people in the world that if you presented them with a bar of gold they would ask why you neglected to polish it. You know what you want this machine to do and how you will use it, so stick to your guns. The fact that you’re a doer and not sitting around telling someone else how they should be doing it is as impressive to me as your design/building skills. Great job. I am certainly going to use some of your ideas. Thank you.
That air cooled little motor is more practical than a liquid cooled diesel. Even if you went through 3 motors over the life of that (Awesome rig) dump truck, it is still cheaper than the alternative. No extra fuel tank, no radiator, no starting problems in the winter, and the list goes on and on. Mike you chose well, and it showed.
As a practicing engineer for a large vehicle manufacturer, I have to say that this is nothing short of spectacular! Furthermore; for all the people offering suggestions as to what you should have done, it would appear that this was designed exactly to the customer specifications, so great work! I’ve loved watching these videos!
What I really love about you is that your curiosity and creativity has you out in the world making and creating. Nice work! Thanks for sharing your process, and all the ways that you learn through it. Keep on being you! Loving your energy.
Mike, you have done an outstanding job on what YOU want to build. I have about 1% of your skills and would never tell you how to do anything. I find that a lot of people that say "you should have done that or that is stupid" have nothing on their channel. Keep doing what you are doing.
people just dont get it! you know what you want and need for your situation period! Arm Chair Fabricators is what I call them lol, those of us who know a thing or 2 know exactly what and why you are doing. Roll on Mike!!!!!
Hi MIKE! Boy, you’ve got a lot of patience! It drives me crazy how 90% of the people that seem to think they know everything about building these kinds of things actually never build anything themselves, LOL! You and I both know, we don’t just jump into putting something together without thinking it through. As you pointed, these things are purpose built. You’ve done a fantastic job with this machine and I know that you are very proud of it as you very well should be! It’s fantastic! I wouldn’t have the patience to respond to all of the people that tell you you should have done this and should have done that. I give you a lot of credit! As always, I enjoyed the video very much and look forward to your future videos. Unfortunately for me, this year, most of my personal small engine projects have gone on hold. We have been using the good weather to focus on other home and yard related projects while the weather is good. I will be getting back to my small engine projects in the fall and through the winter. Hopefully I can get some more videos out at that point. Take care!
Mike, in my personal opinion you have done a great job and I have learned a lot from this build. Also, I want to thank you for sharing your videos, and I hope you make more, and build more.
First and Foremost, you have built a GREAT machine here. This vid only serves to show the sound thinking and reasoning behind everything you did. If people don't like what you have done or think their way would be better, then they can get off their backsides and build their own and show you how it's done. We know that's not going to happen though. I doubt at the end of the day anyone out there would not be damn proud to have this truck and to be able to say they built and designed it themselves. I have a Kubota RTV and I think your machine leaves that for dead especially in the application you have. Considering how many of these one could built for the price of the RTV makes the comparison embarrassing! :0) You have done a TOP job Mike, that's been obvious all along, and myself and all your regular Viewers thank you for the time you have taken with your detailed and interesting vids covering this Build. You are a lot more clever and capable than a good deal of us and it's inspirational watching what you have done. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the time you took to write this! I definitely have put a lot of time into thinking things though and not making to many mistakes along the way, I have learned from a few of them though. I have gained a lot of experience and confidence along this build. It’s literally takes over twice as long to document this entire build but it’s been worth it being able to share it with all of my loyal subscribers👍 Thank you!
You should have... done it just the way you did. Like you said, it didn’t come in a box with plans and an assembly manual. My only suggestion is for a possible bed liner material. Check out Raptor Liner. Seems like it would be a good option to line the dump bed. 👍🏼
The limited slip differential impresses me the most, you get best of both worlds, and you also made a cool example that thousands of people may potentially use on their projects and now I’m gonna do this to my garden tractor. This entire build is very inspiring and I just want to say good job.
I don't think I could imagine a better way to do it myself. I appreciate you approaching people's suggestions with a mind to really explain why you did what you did
Usually don't comment on videos but I really appreciate the build and have enjoyed the series so far. Hell of a job! Don't let anyone tell you different. Purpose built machines don't make sense to most and that's what this is.
You must be super busy. Well done. Very interesting. I like doing this sort of thing, but at 72 I'm a little old to start it again, but I like watching what you do. Keep up the great work.
I have been following along from the start, AMAZING JOB! This is how my Dad did things and taught my siblings and myself to do things. Visit the local scrapyard and see what you can salvage, and you reach out to friends and other like minded people who have a collection of parts and pieces. You trade parts or labor to get what you want. Then you design and build AROUND WHAT YOU HAVE! It is a great way to do things! It breeds creativity, makes you think outside the box. It may not be optimized but it works! My Dad built many things, a tracked crawler for going out in the forest, for firewood, logs for the sawmill which he built, and sap for maple syrup. Most everything he needed, he built this way. Keep building, you are doing a great job!!!
Thanks for sharing this Sam 👍 I really appreciate it! You explained this topic quite well, I think that mindset is becoming a lost art. That’s awesome to hear about all the stuff he built! Take care
A lot of credit going towards the build itself, but also gotta give some credit to how far the video quality has come along. I'm sure it takes him twice as long to be bringing us along with him on the journey and it's really cool to see his film work progress every video. Love the videos and the build. Thanks Mike
Mike, this is a fantastic video series! It has inspired me to do a similar project for my land up in the Rockies based on a 3 cylinder Kubota and hydraulic motors driving the axles. The wife is Russian so I can get a lot of information from those videos as well. Thank you for putting these videos out there to help those of us wanting to try our hand at it.
Hey I would not have the nerve to criticize any of your work. I get it 100% why you chose the parts you did. That is how I think too. If it works, its good.
Most of those questions you answered you have answered multiple times... you’re a wizard with that CNC table and welding machines. Thanks for being original and kicking ass. Watch the videos with sound to get the most information from him.
Great Q&A. I have enjoyed every video and have learned a lot. I love working with my hands and building things. I have a small knife shop and build custom knives, so I do get to work creating things. What you have built is custom to your needs and not available on the open market. I believe it will serve you for years to come. Now, just waiting to see the finished project and the next project build. Also so looking for some great video of it in action. Especially in the snow. It will be a beast. Blessings!
You did an awesome job... i think your design nailed IT!!!! you seemed to accomplish every goal you set for the build.. everyone should not be telling you what you should and shouldn't have done... no body with a plan that they execute well wants to hear peanut gallery comments. Again awesome build.... its pro level fabrication, with many prosumer tools and homemade items..
Thanks Ken! I really appreciate your comments 🙂 My articulating truck sure fits my needs. I learned a lot on this build, it’s been fun designing and bringing others along on this series, I definitely have gotten many comments telling me I should have done this or that, it gets a little old but I realize most of those people have no idea how to change a tire let alone build something like this 😂 Take care Ken! 👍
The reason i like this guy is A. Because his workmanship in video making and engineering is top notch and B. He shuts down any haters and negative comments with knowledgeable and direct common sense! Keep up the great work brother.
Mad props for taking the time to respond to all the idiotic armchair builders. All the decisions you made were pretty understandable to me and the result speaks for themselves. I've really enjoyed following the build.
I love watching your videos makes me wish i could get my project started hopfully this summer ill have the money to start it. Tgank you so much for the wonderful videos get some good ideas from them!!!!!
It’s amazing how people want you to explain yourself and your methodology when it is a privilege to watch along with what you are doing, at the end of the day YOU know what you NEED, thank you for letting us come along for the ride.
They say: "You should've done this, should've done that..." Hey - go do it yourselves then. Make a video series on it as well. As for me I think this thing is awesome!
This is just kinda frustrating to watch. So many people with misinformed comments when you have done your homework each time. Props for patiently explaining your reasoning over and over. Hopefully you get at least a few helpful comments along the way. Love the build.
Thanks for commenting Ryan 👍 I really appreciate it 🙂 I have wanted to do this video for some time now, it gave me a opportunity to explain the build and the reasoning for why I build it the way I did, I feel people really enjoyed this video and have a much better understanding of what I set out to build. Take care 🙂
Lol. Why did you build it? Simple, because you could and you wanted to! Mike, i think you did an awesome job period. Yourself and DonnDIY are living my dreams. Damn I need a lathe.
As welder fabricator by trade I’m constantly building things myself...but this is on another level...your ability to adapt a lot of different industrial applications to your build is so cool...you have that ability where put against anything you could design and build whatever you need to get the job done...damn how id love to hang around you and learn all of your mechanical insight...think that’s what setting you apart...is the mechanical expertise you have...obviously have a lot of knowledge of automotive work as in suspension and driveline 101 type stuff! Loved the series’s please keep them coming learned a ton! All I want is that small burn table now! Thanks!
Thank you Randy! I really appreciate your comment 👍 I’m happy that my videos are interesting to other fabricators and there’s info that helps! It’s been a fun project and I’ve learned a lot too on this 🙂
Bottom line ~ it is something that you built for yourself by yourself. It is what you need to do what you have or want to do with it. I think it is a grand thing this "Tractor Truck" of yours. Truth, I'm kinda jealous I can not built something like this. I have not the skill to do so. Old saying. . . To Your Own Self Be True and piffles on all others! It is Awesome......
This is the most awesome homemade vehicle I have ever seen anyone build. That's because it was built for practicality not a just because I can type mentality.
I am seldom impressed, But this is an impressive project and The dude building it is quite clever also, even if he wears his winter stocking hat in the summer LOL.... You build a buggy that would sell for well over 15 grand out of a junk car, some square tubing and some old surf board molds......You don't need to explain yourself to anybody
Really great build and I can see why you did like you did on the design of the truck, really like your philosophy in the usability of it. Like the idea of cheap interchangeable parts! Keep up the good work😊
Keeping it simple and stupid so we could match you at home is a pretty cool sentiment for a UA-cam channel. Most builders have a budget I could never match.
Man that truck is freaking awesome. I can't believe you had to make this video, by that I mean who really thinks they could have done better. I think you could manufacture and sell those puppies. It's great. Thanks for letting me watch.
The Subaru engine wouldn't have fitted in that chassis and who needs 160hp in a tiny tractor ? I love the simplicity of it and your elegant solutions. Some people just don't get it...
The 200 people trying to tell you what you should need to try, i said try to build one near as good. superb planning perfect all around. the best home build i have seen.
One thing to consider is all the "if you'd only done this" and "for this money you could have had that" keyboard warriors probably have neither the gumption or the skills to make something like this. It's cool that you made a video explaining your thoughts but most of the peanut gallery blabbering you see in the comments should be ignored so you can be building more cool stuff. 😀
Worked late, just got home 30 minutes ago and I had a new Mike Festiva video to watch, life is good. Don't let people get you down, armchair designers, right now I am. You have more than enough horsepower and you used what you had and could afford. Good job.
Awesome build Mike. Don't let anyone make you second guess how you built it. I'm sure after enough time you'll find things you should have done different, but I'd be proud to have that machine!
how come you didnt do computer controlled EFI on the engine for fuel economy, and an 18" sat nav screen, should of done bluetooth controls so you could run it with your phone from your patio!!! some peoples kids eh
Hello. You estimated around $3000, I would still consider it value for money at 6 or 7 thousand. I'm in awe of your design and engineering skills, to me it's genius. Total respect . Thank you. Regards Gareth Wiltshire UK. Gratitude.
It turned out great Mike! You had a vision of what you wanted, and built it. Having “just enough power” is smart since you’re less likely to chunk driveline parts.
I love how you consider ALL things while you design as you go, and you operate like I do, start with a concept, then build in that direction, fitting and designing, with cost inmind. I sometimes will just sit and stare at something for awhile, until it comes to me, I bet you do too.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Great project! Thanks for all your work to share this with us. This is better than anything offered on the open market for your intended tasks. I love how nimble it is in the woods.
Just plain awesome! I like these kind of videos for the background info but not for why you actually have to make these videos! You've built an impressive machine Mike!!!
I think the cab will tie the whole thing nicely together! I'll probably never build my own dump truck, but your builds and solutions do provide a lot of inspiration and I appreciate that you film and share your work with us! Thanks
Thank you, you did a really good job explaining the whys and hows of your build. I am really curious to see what you come up with for heating your cab. Keep 'em coming.
I think this is one of the coolest builds ever. At first I imagined that I could make one, too. But it’s way complex and beyond my skills and I’ve made the mistake of confusing a youtuber’s skills with my own one too many times. I like the low cost high value engineering considerations, though. Bravo to you for the great build!
All points very valid ! It fits YOUR needs and no matter what somebody says YOUR needs may be different ! People have to realize also that to wide is not good in the woods . You have your light duty and your tractor and this fits perfectly in the middle ! You also have a suspension in your seat ! When you install your windshield I hope you have at least 6” clearance between that and your steering wheel ! More lights might be good is all , in the rear and front !
When I suggested the stack I didn’t think of a lot of your reasons. In your area it would get clipped off on day one with a tree. Thanks for the video! Good work
Love how people say should did this, should did that, should used this or that, well build your own and start your own channel, I understand simplicity, availability, cost and ability is all key factors in building and using. Great job and I like everything you have built, great job and support your choices and thought out planning on your builds, everyone does things thier own ways and that's the great thing in life, build how you want for your own uses.
Mike, I have watched this project from the beginning and really like what I see. Your thought process and fabrication abilities are superb. I look forward to the completion of this one and on to the side by side. Much respect!
What I see is someone who is courteous and considerate, has done something many would love to say "I did that" or wait till you see these coming off a assembly line... I will be a millionaire. Not easy getting into that category nor would you enjoy that lifestyle as they hobnob around with others that have sticks up their ying yang. I truly could build something like that because of my work history is building and mechanics for over fifty years. Could I build one as good, I would like to think so by using your hard earned lessons and the grief that came with but flat footed... not so much as I have little experience with stuff that weighs less than a few tons. I have built the equivalent of a all track steering clutch machine but the cost of tracks is so much I wouldn't of done it had I not found a honey hole on these islands where the army dumped stuff still in the boxes for different machines. I completely put together a d4 cat dozer with winch and hydraulic blade and it was nearly everything from the dump site with exceptions to fuel as it was just too old, and seats were so deteriorated that my wife sowed me up some covers that went over some springs out of something else. The rest did come from the dump and a bunch of jeep parts .... me and my big mouth told someone that I had found me something big an so they followed me till they found and took everything. I think that the enclosed cab will make it nice in the winter for you and maybe just a few less bugs but for all purposes' I would keep it like that in the summer.... maybe a roof so pine cones don't hit your noggin
I have over 40 years of experience in welding/fabrication and construction.....never seen anything that impresses me more than your build.....hats off to you! Great job!!!

Thanks 😊 I appreciate your comment 👍
Yep built for my needs!
Well said sir!!
Really great build and I can see why you did like you did on the design of the truck, really like your philosophy in the usability of it. Like the idea of cheap interchangeable parts! Keep up the good work😊
Today, on Mike's 4x4 Show ; "Some arsehole armchair engineers said"
In addition to fantastic engineering and fabrication skills, you are articulate, a great communicator and teacher I’m in awe of your talents.
Thank you Barry 🙂 I really appreciate your comment 👍
Great Job well built just the way it is. Great engineering
In my opinion your engineering and thought process with this build is spot on.
"The reason I used [this part] is because I bought it for $150."
Naysayers: "whine, cry, piss moan."
This guy: "Nah."
Subscribed.
Nice build!
Right on 👍
Thanks for subscribing!
LOL
Keeping it simple and stupid so we could match you at home is a pretty cool sentiment for a UA-cam channel. Most builders have a budget I could never match.
You really do great work. 👍
Thanks Edward for checking out my videos 👍 I really appreciate it 🙂
The 200 people trying to tell you what you should need to try, i said try to build one near as good. superb planning perfect all around. the best home build i have seen.
Thanks Charles 👍 I really appreciate it 🙂
One thing to consider is all the "if you'd only done this" and "for this money you could have had that" keyboard warriors probably have neither the gumption or the skills to make something like this. It's cool that you made a video explaining your thoughts but most of the peanut gallery blabbering you see in the comments should be ignored so you can be building more cool stuff. 😀
Fantastic build, you should be very proud of your work. Gotta love the "Why didn't you........?" from people who've done nothing.
I think you could sell them. I would love to have one!
Worked late, just got home 30 minutes ago and I had a new Mike Festiva video to watch, life is good. Don't let people get you down, armchair designers, right now I am. You have more than enough horsepower and you used what you had and could afford. Good job.
Right on! Thanks for checking out my new video Harold 🙂
you may be 1st but did you watch it yet ??
Haha 👍
This is absolutely engineering genius. They say you can't have fast, cheap, and good all in one project but this, my friend, is just that!
Right on! Thanks for checking out my channel! I really appreciate it 👍
I don't care what anybody says. This thing is just plain ol' American ingenuity and totally Bad A$$ ! ! !
Right on Dave! I really appreciate it 🙂
Awesome build Mike.
For a second there I didn't catch your sarcasm... I was flabbergasted lol
OUTSTANDING!!! Bilt not bought!!! Love the builds and the music.
Hello. You estimated around $3000, I would still consider it value for money at 6 or 7 thousand. I'm in awe of your design and engineering skills, to me it's genius. Total respect . Thank you. Regards Gareth Wiltshire UK. Gratitude.
Imagine if a company produced something like this? Be at least 15k probably
It turned out great Mike! You had a vision of what you wanted, and built it. Having “just enough power” is smart since you’re less likely to chunk driveline parts.
Very well engineered at minimum cost, I am a retired mechanical engineer and I could not fault any of your work. Well done from Australia.
Thanks Bob I really appreciate your comment 👍
I love how you consider ALL things while you design as you go, and you operate like I do, start with a concept, then build in that direction, fitting and designing, with cost inmind. I sometimes will just sit and stare at something for awhile, until it comes to me, I bet you do too.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Great project! Thanks for all your work to share this with us. This is better than anything offered on the open market for your intended tasks. I love how nimble it is in the woods.
This is the coolest thing on the internet right now
Just plain awesome! I like these kind of videos for the background info but not for why you actually have to make these videos! You've built an impressive machine Mike!!!
Mike, I like everything about your build and would change nothing! Once again, I hope you sell plans soon! 👍👍
I think the cab will tie the whole thing nicely together!
I'll probably never build my own dump truck, but your builds and solutions do provide a lot of inspiration and I appreciate that you film and share your work with us! Thanks
That little truck is cool. Period. Great job, fun to watch the build. Looking forward to seeing the cab. Thanks Mike!
Been there, done that, a bunch! "But it looked so easy!"
They can go build their own if they think they can do better, I personally don't think it can be done any better than what you done 💯
Good work
you seriously rock dude that thing is a dream come true. id love to see a short 5 minute montage video of just straight usage!
Thanks Daniel! I will definitely make some videos of this machine working on my property soon 👍
Really appreciate that Seth!
everyone always knows everything better. just build it yourself how you want it If you don't like it.
Can't wait to see the cab and snow plow build
I’ve enjoyed watching you build it. I personally think you did a great job. Keep building cool stuff.
Great video Mike ! Somebody asked me why I built my sawmill and I acted stunned and said , doesnt everyboby want a sawmill?!!!
Mike, I have watched this project from the beginning and really like what I see. Your thought process and fabrication abilities are superb. I look forward to the completion of this one and on to the side by side. Much respect!
Thank you Jim 🙂
your channel should have a lot more then 100k subs .. your builds are amazing.
Right on Morgan that sounds like you did some awesome salvaging! 👍 thanks for always checking out my videos 🙂
