My grandmother lived in Wilmington in 1910 when our family came here from Italy. She said the city was clean and quite beautiful. She cried when she last saw her neighborhood in the 80's.
Did the bitch cry when the government moved thousands of jobs out the city and flooded the place with crack. People never speak on the government destabilizing these places and manufacturing otherwise non existent conditions.
This ain't even "Wilmington" tho... this is 4 blocks on Northside that you drove around six times & 3 blocks on Eastside. You got these ppl thinking this our city & these not even the craziest spots! Or you wasn't ready? 🤔🤔🤓🤣🤣
Of course it looks like Philly, it's like 10 miles away. Every city from Fredericksburg VA, minus D.C. up through Baltimore, Wilmington, Philly, Camden, Trenton, Newark, New York, New Haven, Boston all got that old Colonial Era Post Industrial densely packed rundown look. It's dangerous enough to be a black man in these areas, why stick out like a sore thumb? I drove through black hoods in San Francisco with Oregon license plates , blasting music and didn't realize entering South Haight in the early 90s I would be the only white dude driving around the streets. Everyone was looking at me like I was from another planet. Gangsters hanging out on the sidewalks drinking 40s and some doing drug deals in broad daylight. I suddenly realized that I went into the wrong hood and was going to get whacked. So, I just smiled , acted like I knew where I was going , put on my beanie, didn't stare at them or act nervous and many probably thought I was looking to score some drugs or maybe i was Hispanic since I had a beanie on my head and sunglasses. Anyhow, I got the hell out of that neighborhood as fast as I could.. You don't just go joyriding in a dangerous hood, even if you are black. People catch on real quick if you don't belong somewhere. Being white, automatically makes you a target.
This wasn't even the worst part of Wilmington. And I have lived in Wilmington, Delaware for 50 years. I live about 10 miles from where this was taken. This was a yawn fest. The only bad thing that ever happened to me in this area was a 12 year old throwing me gang signs.

Very interesting video footage of my city. Sort of sad these days. To me, it looks like any other inner city that I have traveled through. I must say that I can remember when Wilmington took pride and looked much better in these very same places. You used to see the street sweeper all the time and now you almost never do. I believe I have traveled down every street seen in this video! If blame has to be placed anywhere, it starts with the citizens that live here. They have to care enough to clean in front of their homes. I lived on the eastside in the projects and in the 60s and 70s, we always had neatly manicured front lawns! Just because you're poor does NOT mean you have to be dirty! Secondly, the city has to care for the inner city! Get those street sweepers back out there and people, clean your own front areas to represent Wilmington! Post note... crime was much less back then too so if fear is a deterrent, I sort of understand. No one wants to get shot while sweeping in front of their own home! Prayers for my city that I still love!
That wasn't even close to the "WORST HOODS" in DE. Roll down to Riverside projects. Roll through the horse shoe. You will literally have 6-8 yr old kids throwing crack and heroin in your car. #BAGLIFE MIKE oh no? Why was it on the COVER of Time magazine with the title "murdertown"? It's ranked as top 5 for cities of its size in violent crimes. Was number 1. The city has "shot tracker" cameras everywhere(which don't work). ABC even tried to do a show based in this city called 'Murdertown' with Jada Pinkett.
this is proof that "row houses" does not work for poor black people. also the mayor should organize a clean the streets day at least once a month in the worst areas.
keepmycash for income tax to be collected, income needs to be generated. This place doesn't look like it has any working people. Looks like a den of welfare collectors.
Alex - the people living in the area pay property tax and sales taxes. But DE has no sales tax. The people working and owning businesses in an area pay income taxes. Welfare or no welfare there is still alot of money in this city. But even if it was a city full of welfare recipents, they or the property management company that owns the building in which the may live still have to pay property tax. And the majority of this city urbanized. And as far as "looking like a den of welfare recipients" - In every affluent city in the US there are programs to assist unemployed people and low income earners. There are low income housing programs that allow someone to rent a 1 bedroom apartment that rents for $3200 and pay an amount reasonable to their income. I have seen payments as low as $400 and the program pays the rest. If cities did not participate in these types of programs, its occupants would leave and the burden of the necessary difference would be on the people paying taxes on anything in the immediate area. Your income and property taxt would quickly rise if the program recipients in your area decided to leave.
Toob247 - Property taxes increase depend on several factors. Read this: www.realtor.com/advice/finance/reasons-why-property-tax-bills-increase/ . Also where did you get your information from that led you to believe that these homeowners are section 8 recipients? Do you know what section 8 is? How many people in your own neighborhood are collection section 8, food stamps, etc...? Would you rather have homeless people in your neighborhood or Section 8 recipients? Do you know what section 8 provides for a city? I actually work in property management and have seen Section 8 recipients in Santa Monica, CA, Beverly Hills, in apartments where studio apartments cost $2,200 and up. Section 8 recipients come in all colors, shapes, forms and social classes. A Section 8 recipient can have $150,000 in their bank account and can qualify as long as a certain percentage of interest income does not exceed what the minimal income qualification is. This depends on what city you live in. Educate yourself of the facts before you become judgemental.
You sound like the typical racist whose small mind cannot see how little of a box you live in. Just because you own a few properties doesn't mean you have an idea about what you are talking about. Because I can tell- really you don't. Remember your properties are in the hood. You talk about poor people and section 8 BUT you yourself are thriving off of it. Why don't you refuse Section 8 payments if you don't like how it works? (Don't take your foot out of your mouth just yet!) You are ignorant just like the statement you made - "Most are section 8. If the programs dried up. The low income or welfare people woukd leave to cheaper places like southern states." however; you yourself would dry up also and be right down there with them. You still are a little fish in a very big pond but you think you are a shark. In other words - your false UA-cam persona to try to make an incorrect point is irrelevant. Have a nice life!
I'm from Philly,Wilmington is like a second home, back in the 70's,it was nice. The dude was rolling through East Side,Market st.Why didn't he hit 4th st up on the Hill.Wilmington just like every other place started really going down with the crack in the late 80's, and 90's.
Yall peep how quick he left 2-4😂 and mann Eastside, Westside, and South Bridge is a part of Wilmington too dude lmao he was juss scared... In from here I pull up in every hood🔥
FromtheMudd419 Makes sense since most cities on the East Coast were built and planned by Europeans when we were colonial America, and Europe is known for its dense and packed cities
Andrew Cadwallader i live in Wilmington on the north side and basically we have one tiny section of the city that’s still nice and beautiful and thriving but it’s literally like 10 blocks max everything else is pretty shitty there
The neighborhoods are rundown, there are boarded-up useless buildings, trash in the streets - but the fall trees still stand in all their glory! Brings to my mind Maya Angelou's poem: "Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I’ll rise. "
FACT: Most cats in Wilmington actually traveled from Philadelphia as part of their lifecycle. I guess you can say its really the cats MEOW, amirite guise?! jej
Eh looks a lil better than SOME parts of philly , sadly. 😬 but the architecture is similar ...Delaware , Maryland, eastern pa , and southern jersey are built similarly .

Crystal West. Ciao from Sicily. Well maybe it looks like Baltimore, but probably not as bad Dear. I was in Little Italy in Baltimore a few months ago. And that Neighborhood is almost gone. Then I went to my old Little Italy Neighborhood in Washington DC, and it is still around and doing fine. Well God Bless Dear and have a nice morning.
Im from va but live in delaware & before i moved here i never really heard anything about de but it gets real here its hoods everywhere the sad thing about delaware alot of people be proud to be known to be where gunplay is active like being ghetto is hip its sad how they glorify being a shoota
Gordon Street. I had the unfortunate experience of living in one of those garages.... (definitely moved up in life since then.) between 22nd and 23rd / Lamotte and market.
Yo Charlie enjoying the videos, keep up the good work! Just a suggestion, maybe you could play some quiet classical music in some videos? That would be very relaxing..
I was trying to compare providence to this.......When I went to Providence it was nothing like I thought it would be. I was definitely in a Puerto Rican hood though.
I watched the first 5 minutes. Saw residences and people, some business, children with their parent and kids playing basketball. I did not see any crime nor did one person approach your car to sell or take something from you. I worked the city for a decade as well the suburbs with rich and poor alike. There are many things that separate people. Things made up. Things like gender/gender identity, sexual preferences or lack of, religion, color of skin, difference of language, Education, hate/blame/racism and such. But the only thing I have seen that separates people is wealth. The 1st set of problems plague all people but money separates you from your issue. Wilmington, like all cities, places so many issues in very tight quarters & most don’t have the money to escape their issues. That causes problems. But the people of Wilmington are good people no different than any other city or suburb I have provided fire, rescue or EMS. Some people hate to hate and some are try to be good to all. Either way, worst of the worst or best of the best needs Christ. Not the religions of Christ. Just Him. God bless. Love riding shotgun. Do along the river sometime & catch some guys fishing if u can?
This does not look like a third world country. I have been there, this does not come close. People love to over exaggerate. I was born and raised in New York and can honestly say (from Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx to Harlem) there are so many neighborhoods in New York that look similar. This is nothing new and it's not even that bad. It looked like a regular neighborhood to me. The East Coast has a certain grit to it which truthfully I have grown to love and appreciate. Of course, government and state need to do better to improve housing and so much more (thats obvious) however it is not on the level of third world country. It's extremely far from that. I get that, that statement was meant to be an expression for some but other comments seemed serious.

First time I've seen that many satellite dishes in a hood. They're usually reserved for trailer parks.
if it wasnt for the title i would think it was baltimore
I don't live in this part, but I do live in Wilmington, and it's even worse than this in real life. I gotta get out if here!
Dark Sky facts he didn't go near any spots where shit really goes down.
shit?
You and me both. The better places are farther away from Wilmington. Would love to get out of the state and go somewhere safer.
I used to live in forty acres, pretty good neighborhood really
adarkened sky facts same here he didnt show nothing
And we are taking our money dealing with immigration instead of dealing with our own problems
I'm from Philly,Wilmington is like a second home, back in the 70's,it was nice. The dude was rolling through East Side,Market st.Why didn't he hit 4th st up on the Hill.Wilmington just like every other place started really going down with the crack in the late 80's, and 90's.
A rule of thumb, I have decided for myself, is that where the cars are older, the houses are better.
Yall peep how quick he left 2-4😂 and mann Eastside, Westside, and South Bridge is a part of Wilmington too dude lmao he was juss scared... In from here I pull up in every hood🔥
The Ultimate Snack why you bragging
@Outlaw where you from
Roads are better than West Virginia!
East Coast cities are too dense.
FromtheMudd419 that's with every real city in the world. yall folks on the west coast live in suburbs, the same with most parts in the south
Brother Biz I live in the midwest and not in a suburb.
Brother Biz..I dont live on the West Coast, im in Texas and its not dense as well, thats only in those cities way up in the northeast
FromtheMudd419 Makes sense since most cities on the East Coast were built and planned by Europeans when we were colonial America, and Europe is known for its dense and packed cities
FromtheMudd419 ok the midwest is like a mixture of the east & westcoast
That car is screaming for some grease
Wilmington looks like it use to be a beautiful place at one time.
King doughnut it was. Up until 1970's when the "white flight" happened
King doughnut you know how it go when pookie and Ray Ray are left unattended
King doughnut it still is
Wilmington has one of the highest murder rates in the country I live right across from the city in New Jersey and It's always been well not good
Andrew Cadwallader i live in Wilmington on the north side and basically we have one tiny section of the city that’s still nice and beautiful and thriving but it’s literally like 10 blocks max everything else is pretty shitty there
Real estate opportunities galore! I love Wilmington. Great place! Don’t believe the hype!
Where would you suggest to move temporarily? I'm a travel nurse...
Why the hell does anybody live here? It's very expensive, and it sucks. How is this place not a ghost town?
He didn't drive by Bennett SPRUCE Clifford Brown Lombard Pine st. Or 4th -7th on the West Side. Riverside Southbridge
bitch did you really memorize that
Shit look exactly like Philly
Bruce Sherrod it basically is. 20 mins away. Most cats are from there in Wilmington anyway
FACT: Most cats in Wilmington actually traveled from Philadelphia as part of their lifecycle. I guess you can say its really the cats MEOW, amirite guise?! jej
Philly cats use to come down there fuckin wit da locals back in da 90s
Eh looks a lil better than SOME parts of philly , sadly. 😬 but the architecture is similar ...Delaware , Maryland, eastern pa , and southern jersey are built similarly .
HB Sherrod we got more junkies running around in Philly tho lol
Satellite dish? Air Conditioning? Good Cars? Cell Phones?
HammeringTruth highest murder rate per capita in the nation. Highest murder rate per capita amongst teenage killings. Ain't conditioning, nice cars, satellite dishes. Good drugs. Don't be fooled

Garry Pelton you buy it for him
Rafeeq Hafiz lol
Then we buy him an armored truck
That ain't a car that's a tank shit he's in Wilmington especially if he's white.
He has to fit in with the areas he's covering.
Wilmington looks like Philly & B-More had a baby.

Black hood ,no way, that's racist.
Love each of your awesome videos, Charlie :)
Thank you for uploading.
Everyone from Philly movin up the DE... Oh gosh!
They are not the worst hoods. There are parts of Wilmington that are far worst. Wilmington use to be a really beautiful city about 60 or 50 years ago
Some of those older style brick row houses aren't too ugly on the outside.
I appreciate the ones with enclosed porches and the starburst windows.
I love bricks
Yeah really. Born in Wilmington now down on the dirty coast , Houston. Got square miles of way worse. Pretty sad actually.
Honestly, I didn't think black people stayed in Delaware. I'm from Detroit, Michigan.
Looks like certain parts of Chester pa and Norristown pa....much cleaner than Kensington tho
Wilmington Delaware is a backward place. It's a relic of the past. A has been place.
When I went there it amaze me how it was so much like baltimore
It's a kid Atlantic. Philly. Baltimore. Camden. Chester Pa are all similar
Mid Atlantic typo
Crystal West. Ciao from Sicily. Well maybe it looks like Baltimore, but probably not as bad Dear. I was in Little Italy in Baltimore a few months ago. And that Neighborhood is almost gone. Then I went to my old Little Italy Neighborhood in Washington DC, and it is still around and doing fine. Well God Bless Dear and have a nice morning.
Little Italy in Wilmington, DE is now Little Africa where it's full of crime, violence, and disrepair. Welcome to the future.
Toob247 Toob247 fuckin tell me about it

I was born in newark delaware, want to talk about hoods and slums? Hit some trap houses around there, you'll find what you're looking for.. or worse.
Im from va but live in delaware & before i moved here i never really heard anything about de but it gets real here its hoods everywhere the sad thing about delaware alot of people be proud to be known to be where gunplay is active like being ghetto is hip its sad how they glorify being a shoota
Maybe all the 5 guys standing on the street corners could all go find jobs instead of slinging drugs ?
If they did, they couldn't afford those fancy cars.
West 4th street at night. That's where shit gets real af
Donnie Miller

What about Garfield Park? I remember 2004-2007 they used to have a warning spray painted "SNOWBUNNIES KEEP OUT!" That area still pretty rough?
I LOVE WILMINGTON DELAWARE

Good old willmington
I do not miss living over North at all!! So glad my pops taught me how to get bread and come up out of poverty
@AB Baby Get a job.
@abbaby68 invest in a business. Invest in the stock market. Invest in intellectual property.
At 3:00 Walked down that alleyway plenty of times, That's Northside
YoTrevvy - BOSSEDUP KICKS my man said the same thing. Probably know each other
Gordon Street.
Sure, then I won't be able to monetize my videos. That's why I don't play music.
CharlieBo313 Thats fair enough bro ill just play some music on a different tab aha
Also a lot of people have said they prefer to hear the live sounds from the street in these hood videos.
I'd love to see you do Albany, New York or providence
Cameron Williams He also needs to do both Syracuse and Binghamton, the two hoods on I-81.
@@robertpreskop4425 🤣🤣 so true!!
8:32 on confirms it .......the only possible vehicle that could sound like that would be an overloaded poultry truck .
Abdullah Butcher
clovehitch I borrowed it from yo daddy
What ever he"s driving it"s gotten him to more places in the last month than I'v been to in my life .
Saving up for my own "Poultry Truck" ...
A 2016 dodge cargo van, it's not mine.
This is not the worst 💯 boul was scared to drive through the worst 🤣
Looks a lot like England! Very South London
I get that, that statement was meant to be an expression for some but other comments seemed serious.
lmao go to riverside off gov prince at midnight and come back and tell us that
