There are a couple guys on UA-cam who posts stuff about being followed and there are guys on their videos who are fueling the guy's story and making him think its true when it's not. I forgot the name of the guy but he had schizophrenia and hasn't taken any medications for years (someone had contacted his relatives), he wasn't working but documenting everything since 2007, he had a website that he deleted but I saw some using the archive and he was posting about 5 paragraphs each day for 7 years and he deleted it in 2014. One guy said that no medication can save the guy except death, truly sad that he can not be cured and he has to suffer for the remainder of his life.

as someone who handles processing almost all returns at a large retail chain, what happened with the plates is that someone bought them, decided they didnt like them, boxed what they assumed were the right ones up, and sealed/taped it(maybe, it is walmart not sure what their policy is) and walmart put it back on the shelf
Re: The plates. Wal-Mart is NOTORIOUS for putting merch from returns back on the shelf without checking it. People routinely end up buying broken gaming systems and anything else that comes in a box. I don't think most people would be worried in the slightest about being caught. One of the reasons I stay away from the place.
Yeah I use to buy the gaming pc and I would swap out parts for knock offs from wish then return the PC and resell the video cards and cpus they would just open the box and look at it and make sure the cables where there then put it back on the shelf after.

Walmart actually sends all their returns to a different company that sorts them and wholesale them. Returns never go back on shelves, it's a public safety hazard.

The plates could have been made at the same factory and distributed to different companies with different labels printed on then and it was just a huge mistake on the factories part. It is actually very common for companies to order from distributers like these to save lots of money especially fancy 5 star places trying to save every cent they can. You would be surprised how many over priced places are actually giving you an average experience and ripping you off every chance they can especially in the USA.
I don’t at all doubt that rich people places buy from cheap factories. Lol people pay for the experience when they go to those places. Not saying the quality isn’t good. But rich people aren’t above paying extra money for a similar experience just to feel good about how exclusive it is. Lol

That’s crazy. My mom also has an android government phone and it’s the worst phone you could get. It also downloads apps and viruses by itself, freezes, and displays ads on the lock screen. I figure it’s the price you pay for a free phone and anything from the government is unreliable and untrustworthy. Glad to know she’s not the only one though.

I've had ones so slow and bogged down, if I needed it in an emergency I'd be screwed because it took several minutes just to dial out. Had one company send me a Galaxy S7 (released 2016 and this was about 2022/2023) that had a battery so taxed it just couldn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes. Usually if I had one of these phones and I had a spare phone of my own lying around, I'd just swap the SIM into the one that was mine. Usually worked without having to reregister the phone.
I've had government phones. If you have a problem, you put it back in the box and stick on the free return label. They'll send you completely different one. Usually a different model/manufacturer. To receive one of these phones is completely free. They are extremely helpful to have when you have a child.

Regarding the plates: If you've never worked retail, you'd be surprised at the thought of them not being checked before returning to the shelf. If you *have* worked retail, it absolutely makes perfect sense. Pop the lid off the box, see white plates inside, maybe take them out enough to ensure the correct quantity and no broken pieces - boom, you're good to go, especially with a line up at the return counter. The person putting stock back could easily assume they've already been checked, no reason to do so, especially with a pile of products to put back either while helping customers or after close and rushing to go home. Is it ideal? No, these things should be thoroughly checked. But it's reality and absolutely plausible. Where the plates came from, though, that's a legitimate mystery. Although I can also say it's equally plausible for both to have come from the same manufacturer. I've been surprised many times to see both high- and low-end products - which I thought were competing brands - arrive in the same shipment, packed at the manufacturer's warehouse. Like you said, a plate's a plate, and there's no reason 2 wildly different businesses wouldn't purchase them from the same vendor.
I currently work in retail (though not at customer service), I think it's standard practice at my place of work to check items before giving a refund, as obviously the customer would give a reason for returning the product. But it's possible other stores might not check straight away or someone could have just forgotten. I do wonder how the plates got there though - they don't appear to be the ones used by Chateau Marmont and they were a different shape to the ones shown on the box. Pretty intriguing for a box of plates lol
Hell as for the whole competing brands in the same manufacturer I used to work in a car parts factory that made parts for Ford f250s, Chevy covets and z71s, Hyundai, Chrysler. Nothing would surprise me at this point
True, once I bought a lamp in completly sealed box and found the instruction being completly torn and half of the details missing completly. Someone had obviously returned it and they just made the box look new without checking the contents lol
As for snapped fingers you are very correct about the Schizophrenia theory, I was diagnosed with it and when I wasn't well, I did similar things, medication works but it's finding the right one and even so, it takes a few weeks to see any improvement, usually if no improvement is seen or if you have bad side effects, medication will be changed until the best one is found.
I like personal videos like this but there's nothing wrong with text to speech, sometimes I just don't want to hear someone, I'd rather just hear the story itself.
You can't uninstall some of built-in apps in android. I personally have used LG, Sony, Samsung and Xiaomi phones. Without flashing any rom but the original one, you can't delete some built-in apps, even if you are rooted.
yeah, and it's damn annoying because it's such a huge waste of space on apps i will never use. Samsung is especially guilty of adding a fckton of useless bloatware to their phones which is why i haven't bought anything by them in years.
My first reaction to the plates is that OP did it to start an internet mystery. Makes as much sense as someone returning different plates to the shop. But I also can agree with other posts, that the plates for the hotel could easily come from the same manufacturer as Walmart. If you consider how many plates are probably broken everyday in a restaurant, not even considering room service, events & anywhere else. They can’t afford to pay for expensive dishes to be broken/stolen all the time.
You think maybe the hotel plates might've been meant more for decoration? I've seen both plates and mugs with famous logos being sold pretty much for decoration. The factory that makes these could be the same that makes Walmart plates and they made a mistake with the packaging. So they wouldn't be actual plates from the hotel, just knock offs with the logo on them.
10:50 I think it depends on how old the phone is. With my very first android I once downloaded an app that would occasionally load an ad even on the lock screen. Sounds like this phone is a little messed up. Also, about the battery, that sounds almost completely normal. The sticker is a little unusual but not that unheard of. Most phones and smart devices I've worked on have batteries secured by double-sided tape or a sticker..
Programmer here. At no point in time should any android app that can be uninstalled cause your phone problems as described in the video. Any system app will not have the ability to uninstall it, but rather 'disable' it. Disabling only reverts the program to the lowest build number on the firmware and hides the icon from the user, but is still on the system and can receive automatic updates if automatic updates are turned on or forced through a 3rd party app store or controller. While yes, a phone can be government monitored without app interference (Snowden for confirmation), apps can also do so and may have been installed by the carrier or even government issue. The reason for that would be to sell data (presumably). If even the government can keep an eye and ear on you through your phone without apps, having those apps on there can create a secondary selling point on the user such as 'another account' to sell or more marketing data taken from device usage not monitored. With the voice recorder app not being able to be uninstalled without issue from the device warrants legitimate concern as no app that can be uninstalled should be woven into system tasks and boot. For example, downloading an app riddled with adware can silently install other adware from it's own internal package manager to the phone, be uninstalled, but those packages installed from said app would remain and would not cause system issues if programmed intelligently. But an unrooted android phone will not be capable (unless through undiscovered/unpatched vulnerabilities) of installing an app that would tangle itself into the root system and leave itself uninstallable.

Honestly the phone thing sounds like the government just unintentionally got them from a dodgy retailer/manufacturer because they were cheap... I used to have a pretty cheap off-brand Android that my parents ordered off Amazon because they didn't know any better, and it was riddled with ads, kept downloading apps without my permission, and had the worst battery life ever. So yeah, probably not a spyware phone, just the officials responsible for arranging this having no idea that cheap off-brand phones are a bad idea lol
As someone who works at Walmart, we really don't check shit that's been returned. It's possible someone yoinked the plates from the hotel and returned them instead of the ones that were supposed to be in the box.
So I know I'm super late here, but one thing I thought of RE: the plates was that it's a case of product tampering? Like, someone had those plates with the Chateau Marmont logo on them, wanted to play a prank, and switched out the plates in the box for the Chateau Marmont ones. I haven't lived in a country with Walmarts for many years, but when I lived in the US I got the impression that it wouldn't be difficult to do something like that in a Walmart and not get caught. The other customers are probably acting just as weird as you, and the minimum-wage employees don't care enough to investigate every time someone looks a bit off.

I know this is an old video, but about the plate thing - I think Walmart and the hotel get their plates from the same stock company which probably also screen prints. They probably sent Walmart the incorrect product.

On the plate one: it's possible that the plates could have been stolen from the hotel and then put in the box so they could get a refund. Of course, it's a bit of a stretch, but stuff gets stolen from hotels a lot and not everything that gets returned to places like Walmart get checked

This comment is late as I only discovered this channel about an hour ago. But I experienced something similar to the government phone thing, though not as severe, back in 2014. I was 13 at the time, and my mom had gotten me the phone in order to keep contact with her and my stepdad if I needed to. It was rough back then for us, so I got a government phone. I do live in the US, as well. It was a touchscreen android. One day, a pop up saying that a virus had infected my phone kept popping up, over and over again. It was the only pop up, and would show up every 10-15 seconds. When I showed it to my mom, she got onto me for probably going onto a bad site. Which, was fair, being a young teenager. But I've never had any issues like it since. Unfortunately, we've moved around a lot, so I no longer have that phone. But if you take my word for it, then it's a smaller case of what that person experienced. If I see a picture of it, I would probably recognize the phone though. Edit: Hell, I can remember it having I think a 5 inch (12.7 cm) screen, and buttons like the home button and back button were built in at the bottom of the screen.
My guess is that the government takes phones back and they don't hard reset them, so people can add apps and ads through rooting and unrooting the device and the government takes them in with the adware and malware hard installed on them.

Walmart does not check their returns. A few years ago, my boyfriend at the time bought me some chocolates from Walmart. Half of the chocolates were already eaten…I was severely grossed out and went back and return them myself. Showing them The half eaten box of chocolates and got a full refund for my boyfriend at the time. 🙄😡😓😖

I really do think that the plates come from the same manufacturer. A lot of companies will make a variety of different quality items and the manufacturers often do have multiple brands under their belt to sell different things. I know of a company with THREE different brands that sell various toys and merchandise with differing qualities and it's only apparent if you do some digging to find them. I believe it sells merchandise for $100+ on its high-end website geared toward wealthy collectors and $10-$30 stuff for its more affordable website that's aimed toward children or just people who aren't interested in paying that much.

as an owner of a free phone like that, they're literally free. there's no charge and nothing you need to do to get one besides be on foodstamps/poor. i've never seen one that has ads on the lock screen even.

The average Walmart has 5 overworked employees, only 1 working on returns who will spend 15 minutes with every other customer explaining that individual Walmart's return policies, who will not be assed to check inside returned item before the only 1 employee who stocks shelves puts it back, because Walmart doesn't pay them enough to care.
the spyware phone sounds mundane but the thing is all phones have spyware, and it got a lot worse in 2010s. He could've been in that transition period where they were taking right to repair and removable batteries away from users. The thing is though it's not a conspiracy, it's just how phones are, unless you shell out $$$ for a privacy focused phone with toggleable radios, and even then the cell tower networks still spy on you. You gotta actually remove the battery... which you can't do anymore.

I bet the plates are just manufactured at a third party location that also makes the plates sold to the hotel in LA. Fabrication is weird like that. They could have just gotten moved around and stamped in the wrong place lol
The thing is, is that if those plates were counterfeit, and someone returned the phony ones and kept the real ones, as long as the box with the counterfeit plates appeared to still be sealed and felt as though it was the same weight its supposed to be, usually they'd just take the return, no questions asked. Maybe they would open up the box again to check on them before putting them back on the shelf, but even that would be unlikely if the box appeared to be sealed. Even if they did open it, by the time they'd do that, the person who made the counterfeit plates would be long gone. I have a friend that does shit like this all the time, actually. I dont have the balls to myself, admittedly. Plus it feels sorta wrong usually I guess.

I can say firsthand, having had multiple free phones from the government, that they are weird as hell. I don’t go on any weird sites, in fact they only really got the phone to download UA-cam kids for my daughter to use once in a while, and that’s it. There have been times I had to go into the settings and the apps and delete a whole bunch of random things that my phone had downloaded on its own, things that slowed my phone down tremendously and gave it tons of bugs and made it act very erratically. I’m not particularly text savvy, but there were a lot of things in there that, lots of weird extensions or something (little android icon with a few random words or letters followed by .ext, stuff like that). It got to the point where I had to do it several times per day and without alerting me it would re-download them without my permission, and from there would interfere with anything I tried to do. Those phones are not worth the trouble, honestly.
ive gotten ads on my phone home screen and lock screen too. I'm pretty sure it was a bug/malware from an app i downloaded. probably not the same as whats happening here though

Pop the lid off the box, see white plates inside, maybe take them out enough to ensure the correct quantity and no broken pieces - boom, you're good to go, especially with a line up at the return counter. The person putting stock back could easily assume they've already been checked, no reason to do so, especially with a pile of products to put back either while helping customers or after close and rushing to go home.
Is it ideal? No, these things should be thoroughly checked. But it's reality and absolutely plausible.
Where the plates came from, though, that's a legitimate mystery.
Although I can also say it's equally plausible for both to have come from the same manufacturer. I've been surprised many times to see both high- and low-end products - which I thought were competing brands - arrive in the same shipment, packed at the manufacturer's warehouse. Like you said, a plate's a plate, and there's no reason 2 wildly different businesses wouldn't purchase them from the same vendor.
I currently work in retail (though not at customer service), I think it's standard practice at my place of work to check items before giving a refund, as obviously the customer would give a reason for returning the product. But it's possible other stores might not check straight away or someone could have just forgotten. I do wonder how the plates got there though - they don't appear to be the ones used by Chateau Marmont and they were a different shape to the ones shown on the box. Pretty intriguing for a box of plates lol

Hell as for the whole competing brands in the same manufacturer I used to work in a car parts factory that made parts for Ford f250s, Chevy covets and z71s, Hyundai, Chrysler. Nothing would surprise me at this point
True, once I bought a lamp in completly sealed box and found the instruction being completly torn and half of the details missing completly. Someone had obviously returned it and they just made the box look new without checking the contents lol
As for snapped fingers you are very correct about the Schizophrenia theory, I was diagnosed with it and when I wasn't well, I did similar things, medication works but it's finding the right one and even so, it takes a few weeks to see any improvement, usually if no improvement is seen or if you have bad side effects, medication will be changed until the best one is found.

I like personal videos like this but there's nothing wrong with text to speech, sometimes I just don't want to hear someone, I'd rather just hear the story itself.
You can't uninstall some of built-in apps in android. I personally have used LG, Sony, Samsung and Xiaomi phones. Without flashing any rom but the original one, you can't delete some built-in apps, even if you are rooted.

yeah, and it's damn annoying because it's such a huge waste of space on apps i will never use. Samsung is especially guilty of adding a fckton of useless bloatware to their phones which is why i haven't bought anything by them in years.

My first reaction to the plates is that OP did it to start an internet mystery. Makes as much sense as someone returning different plates to the shop. But I also can agree with other posts, that the plates for the hotel could easily come from the same manufacturer as Walmart. If you consider how many plates are probably broken everyday in a restaurant, not even considering room service, events & anywhere else. They can’t afford to pay for expensive dishes to be broken/stolen all the time.
You think maybe the hotel plates might've been meant more for decoration? I've seen both plates and mugs with famous logos being sold pretty much for decoration. The factory that makes these could be the same that makes Walmart plates and they made a mistake with the packaging. So they wouldn't be actual plates from the hotel, just knock offs with the logo on them.

10:50 I think it depends on how old the phone is. With my very first android I once downloaded an app that would occasionally load an ad even on the lock screen. Sounds like this phone is a little messed up. Also, about the battery, that sounds almost completely normal. The sticker is a little unusual but not that unheard of. Most phones and smart devices I've worked on have batteries secured by double-sided tape or a sticker..

Programmer here. At no point in time should any android app that can be uninstalled cause your phone problems as described in the video. Any system app will not have the ability to uninstall it, but rather 'disable' it. Disabling only reverts the program to the lowest build number on the firmware and hides the icon from the user, but is still on the system and can receive automatic updates if automatic updates are turned on or forced through a 3rd party app store or controller.
While yes, a phone can be government monitored without app interference (Snowden for confirmation), apps can also do so and may have been installed by the carrier or even government issue. The reason for that would be to sell data (presumably). If even the government can keep an eye and ear on you through your phone without apps, having those apps on there can create a secondary selling point on the user such as 'another account' to sell or more marketing data taken from device usage not monitored.
With the voice recorder app not being able to be uninstalled without issue from the device warrants legitimate concern as no app that can be uninstalled should be woven into system tasks and boot.
For example, downloading an app riddled with adware can silently install other adware from it's own internal package manager to the phone, be uninstalled, but those packages installed from said app would remain and would not cause system issues if programmed intelligently. But an unrooted android phone will not be capable (unless through undiscovered/unpatched vulnerabilities) of installing an app that would tangle itself into the root system and leave itself uninstallable.

Honestly the phone thing sounds like the government just unintentionally got them from a dodgy retailer/manufacturer because they were cheap... I used to have a pretty cheap off-brand Android that my parents ordered off Amazon because they didn't know any better, and it was riddled with ads, kept downloading apps without my permission, and had the worst battery life ever. So yeah, probably not a spyware phone, just the officials responsible for arranging this having no idea that cheap off-brand phones are a bad idea lol

So I know I'm super late here, but one thing I thought of RE: the plates was that it's a case of product tampering? Like, someone had those plates with the Chateau Marmont logo on them, wanted to play a prank, and switched out the plates in the box for the Chateau Marmont ones. I haven't lived in a country with Walmarts for many years, but when I lived in the US I got the impression that it wouldn't be difficult to do something like that in a Walmart and not get caught. The other customers are probably acting just as weird as you, and the minimum-wage employees don't care enough to investigate every time someone looks a bit off.

I know this is an old video, but about the plate thing - I think Walmart and the hotel get their plates from the same stock company which probably also screen prints. They probably sent Walmart the incorrect product.

On the plate one: it's possible that the plates could have been stolen from the hotel and then put in the box so they could get a refund. Of course, it's a bit of a stretch, but stuff gets stolen from hotels a lot and not everything that gets returned to places like Walmart get checked

This comment is late as I only discovered this channel about an hour ago. But I experienced something similar to the government phone thing, though not as severe, back in 2014. I was 13 at the time, and my mom had gotten me the phone in order to keep contact with her and my stepdad if I needed to. It was rough back then for us, so I got a government phone. I do live in the US, as well. It was a touchscreen android. One day, a pop up saying that a virus had infected my phone kept popping up, over and over again. It was the only pop up, and would show up every 10-15 seconds. When I showed it to my mom, she got onto me for probably going onto a bad site. Which, was fair, being a young teenager. But I've never had any issues like it since. Unfortunately, we've moved around a lot, so I no longer have that phone. But if you take my word for it, then it's a smaller case of what that person experienced. If I see a picture of it, I would probably recognize the phone though.
Edit: Hell, I can remember it having I think a 5 inch (12.7 cm) screen, and buttons like the home button and back button were built in at the bottom of the screen.

My guess is that the government takes phones back and they don't hard reset them, so people can add apps and ads through rooting and unrooting the device and the government takes them in with the adware and malware hard installed on them.

Walmart does not check their returns. A few years ago, my boyfriend at the time bought me some chocolates from Walmart. Half of the chocolates were already eaten…I was severely grossed out and went back and return them myself. Showing them The half eaten box of chocolates and got a full refund for my boyfriend at the time. 🙄😡😓😖
Just so you know, walmart puts unchecked returned stuff back on the shelves all day everyday. It's more rare for the items to be checked than not. Wish I knew what kind of accent she has though

I really do think that the plates come from the same manufacturer. A lot of companies will make a variety of different quality items and the manufacturers often do have multiple brands under their belt to sell different things. I know of a company with THREE different brands that sell various toys and merchandise with differing qualities and it's only apparent if you do some digging to find them. I believe it sells merchandise for $100+ on its high-end website geared toward wealthy collectors and $10-$30 stuff for its more affordable website that's aimed toward children or just people who aren't interested in paying that much.

Maybe someone had ordered the plates from somewhere, realised they were fake and tried to send them back. But maybe they mistakenly thought they'd come from Walmart and sent them back to the wrong place.

as an owner of a free phone like that, they're literally free. there's no charge and nothing you need to do to get one besides be on foodstamps/poor. i've never seen one that has ads on the lock screen even.

The average Walmart has 5 overworked employees, only 1 working on returns who will spend 15 minutes with every other customer explaining that individual Walmart's return policies, who will not be assed to check inside returned item before the only 1 employee who stocks shelves puts it back, because Walmart doesn't pay them enough to care.

the spyware phone sounds mundane but the thing is all phones have spyware, and it got a lot worse in 2010s. He could've been in that transition period where they were taking right to repair and removable batteries away from users. The thing is though it's not a conspiracy, it's just how phones are, unless you shell out $$$ for a privacy focused phone with toggleable radios, and even then the cell tower networks still spy on you. You gotta actually remove the battery... which you can't do anymore.
I had a free government given phone when I was in elementary school, no ads but it did have minutes which is expected I guess. It is REALLY weird that it downloaded apps by itself and had weird ads, did not happen to me 🤷♂️

people do return scams all the time. theyll return a box with something else in it and just hope the employee wont check. ive heard a million stories about it from a gamestop thread, its more common with game consoles.
I bet the plates are just manufactured at a third party location that also makes the plates sold to the hotel in LA. Fabrication is weird like that. They could have just gotten moved around and stamped in the wrong place lol

The thing is, is that if those plates were counterfeit, and someone returned the phony ones and kept the real ones, as long as the box with the counterfeit plates appeared to still be sealed and felt as though it was the same weight its supposed to be, usually they'd just take the return, no questions asked. Maybe they would open up the box again to check on them before putting them back on the shelf, but even that would be unlikely if the box appeared to be sealed. Even if they did open it, by the time they'd do that, the person who made the counterfeit plates would be long gone. I have a friend that does shit like this all the time, actually. I dont have the balls to myself, admittedly. Plus it feels sorta wrong usually I guess.

I can say firsthand, having had multiple free phones from the government, that they are weird as hell. I don’t go on any weird sites, in fact they only really got the phone to download UA-cam kids for my daughter to use once in a while, and that’s it. There have been times I had to go into the settings and the apps and delete a whole bunch of random things that my phone had downloaded on its own, things that slowed my phone down tremendously and gave it tons of bugs and made it act very erratically. I’m not particularly text savvy, but there were a lot of things in there that, lots of weird extensions or something (little android icon with a few random words or letters followed by .ext, stuff like that). It got to the point where I had to do it several times per day and without alerting me it would re-download them without my permission, and from there would interfere with anything I tried to do. Those phones are not worth the trouble, honestly.
