Great job, Lyndon is a boss with a tig.. You know Simon will be watching and thinking Mmm I could do with an arch too.. lol, I put a small manual bilge pump in my dingy just for such occasions.. God Bless
One thing I did to get the diesel mustache off my stern was to weld an extension onto the existing exhaust port and then I clamped on a rubber hose to extend it even further, solved my black stern issue.
I just hate it when I watch somebody doing their welding so easily and end up with such a nice row of "nickels" nice work. I think your arch tuned out pretty good
Totally awesome guys kick ass I have a Pace Shipt 23-foot I'm fixing to build one out of wood while I was thinking about using tree branches put solar panels and convert my 8 horsepower outboard motor into an electric motor with about 7 batteries or more..endless power for theelectric motor...
Wow! For some one who I would assume doesn't weld everyday your welds look pretty darn nice! Congrats! I have to ask though, the back bow looks substantially higher than the front bow.....is it? and if yes....why? I made a custom arch for my boat for the solar panels and between the panels and one smaller bow that folds forward with a bimini on it I have a lot of shade in the cockpit! Your going to love it once it's all done! Nice job!
Thanks! The different heights were by design. The forward hoop is designed to have a bimini on the inside of it. So, it is as high as possible without the bimini interfering with the boom. The back is higher so that solar panels can mount on the tube and hang forward over top of the bimini. Along with giving us more head room so we can stand, jump, climb more easily on the very back of the boat. Check out our boat tour video, you can see the panels mounted on the bar!
Went back and checked out what you were saying. I see what you mean now. My bows are both the same height so that I have two attachment points for the solar panels. I would love to see how you attached your panels and how much or how strong a wind do you think they can handle with the front of the panel unsupported? I actually think this is a great design idea congrats! I ended up using a smaller bow on a hinge that tilts forward for my bimini. I think you get a much bigger bimini and therefore you have a better design. Please excuse me for questioning you!! Great Job! Again Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Wow a super nice arch. I would not have taken the time to do such a nice job. I am going to do something similar, but I am planning to make a solar Bimini, and just cut the tubing and buy fittings.
I'm no welder, but that weld looked professional. Earbuds are the first signs of tension while working on a project. You guys work well together. Of all the scenes, the coffee scene is the best. We can all relate. Fair (tropical) winds...soon!
Yeah, he did a great job! Haha, earbuds can be a marriage-saver when you live in close quarters. Glad you can all relate to my love of coffee - I was not going to let any go to waste!
I really enjoy your videos and as always I can't wait for the next episode. Such nice people and exciting to watch the journey. P.S. welcome to the island. :)
I know the video is almost a couple years old but I am curious how you did something. When you were staging it prior to welding, how did you hold the sections up to gauge how it felt along the lines? Did you just use a duct tape or something? Was it bolted in at the base at that point? Did you just tack weld it in a few spots? Great work, I have heard that custom stainless arches can easily exceed $4k! I know you are just planning to use it for some solar panels, but how would one go about guestimating the payload weight limits? Dingy davits, water storage, a dingy outboard, a hammock... An arch can be used for so many things, but at some point there will be a limit of load bearing. Thicken the walls of the tube (surely welding would be easier), but then one might need to worry about the fiberglass on the boat or transom. What do you suppose your limits might be on this build? Again great job!
Thanks Jae. Mostly I worked to rough measurements. Then Tiff would hold it in place and we would take turns looking to see how it felt. Once we were happy, I bolted the base plates to the boat, tack welded and then removed for final welding. I am not sure what the payload limit would be or how you would go about figuring out what it would be but I feel confident I could pack that arch full of alot of stuff!
@@WaldeSailing I hear ya' , the only way to really test the limits is to try and break it probably haha... The difficult thing is when you bring the videography into the build process, seems to be about double the workload to make sure the camera is pointed and shooting while trying to hold things in place, well done on that front too! Again, thanks for sharing.
I was giving CPR to an ill man when my phone buzzed to let me know there was a new episode of Walde Sailing to watch... So you see where I am and what I am doing... Writing lies about a fictional ill man in UA-cam comments while enjoying the episode. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, it hit near Tofino which is on the West coast of the island, we are located on the East side. I read that there was no damage and no one was hurt - thankfully! Being on a boat, I wonder how much we would have felt... I think it would have just rocked us and we wouldn't think it was different from a wave... hmmm
Are you going to stay in BC waters or are you considering heading south? By the way everything you are going through I will be doing as I am getting ready to live aboard as well. What are the dimensions of your boat?
Sweet job... great welding . love that you both are so chilled with a camera in your face, great vid my fav so far. much hugs from the uk ... Merry Christmas ua-cam.com/video/Gg3mXQWJdLI/v-deo.html
Thank you! We really try to to show our real life here. Glad you liked this episode! It's also my fave to date, haha! Merry Christmas, back and thanks for the link - we watched this exact one this morning!
Awesome welding! Looks great. Now you two get along.
Beautiful welds....now that was some excellent welding teamwork!! That is one professional, good looking strong arch.
The hair is bangin at 2:20. Love being witness to your experiences. Thx!

nice galley dance Tiffany

Awesome welds dude!
You guys are doing a great job of moving the boat around the dock
Thank you! We are definitely getting better at it
I've seen boaters do some of their own repairs but building your own arch (and a nice looking one too) has topped it all. You guys rock! !
Look's awesome, great job and great welding
Looking good! Amazing you can make just about anything you need. Can’t wait to see your solar install.
Thats a nice weld
Nice looking arch. Very nice addition to the boat. Great video.

Nice work on the arch, looks great👍
Great welding, and nice to have a capable assistant lol.

That will be great!
I was sad because I just got caught up on the sailing vlogs I follow. Then all of a sudden I see Walde Sailing posted 2 min ago. Sweeeeeeet!
Haha, this is amazing! So happy you are following along :)
“Fiddley little bits” lol not sure why but that made me laugh

Great Welding, and Merry Christmas to you two :)
Thank you and Merry Christmas, Back!
For being a new sailor at that point, you spun your boat around in a very seaman like fashion.
nice beads
Nice job

You could make a lot of money fabbing and welding stainless !
lol coffee addict ! I am one too !
Enjoying this journey. Thanks for letting us tag along. Did you get that dehumidifier yet?
We did! Pulls out 3 plus litres, of water, a day!
Walde Sailing Amazing isn’t it. You will be much happier and so much dryer. You can run a line down the bilge as well.

You sure your not a welder. Geez. Nice job.
Hi! Good work with the steel.
On time: please adjust the movie volume more high when your wife talks. Sometimes
is very hard understanding her.
Is that shop a friends shop? Or is it a place boaters can rent?
The owner of the marina lets his moorage customers rent is shop.
That looks great! Does the marina let you use there shop?
Thanks! Yeah, he let me use his shop for this project.
You are a complete browser, congratulations.
Solar Arch one way to keep the rain off. Did you feel the earthquake in your area
We didn't feel it! Did you feel it - not sure where you're located...
Only my Iphone said there was an earthquake around Atlin

Plan to head south this summer! Its 35 ft with a 11ft9 beam, I think. Hope all goes well for you!
Nice job but all that scratching is making me itch Lol
Did you usepipe or tube on the arch? Think you did great, easy to make that misstake. ,,,,,,,,,,/),,,,,,,,,,,,
Thanks! It was tube.
