Oh my gosh I don’t want to seem weird but where have you been all my life. Thank you so much from one Lefty to another. I can do many things with my right hand but writing is not one of them and especially pretty writing or clean. Thank you so much
Thanks for starting this discussion about Lettering for Lefties. Over the years (many of them), I've noticed that lefties come in three flavors: 1) top writers where the point of the pen is below the hand (President Obama is a top writer) 2) side writers: where the hand and the pen are in the same orientation and the writing is 'pushed' across the paper (you are a side writer), and 3) a bottom writer wherein the point of the pen is above the hand and pushed across the paper (I am a bottom writer). Right handed writers are different; they pull the pen across the paper and the letters are formed "behind" their hand. I look forward to listening and watching you share your artistic talents with the community of left handers who eagerly want to learn from you. Your faux calligraphy is beautiful and I think you have a lot to teach us.
This is my 'Lucky Day'!!! I never get up at 5:00 am - but this morning, I couldn't sleep, turned on my computer and Poof...there you were!!! A "LEFTY'' doing Calligraphy!! Was I just dreaming? I've watched this video three times and I'm so excited! I've been looking for a teacher of left hand writing for so long. This was so encouraging to watch - thank you! I'm definitely going to follow you from now on!
Maeve Garcia it was meant to be!! If there are any things you'd like more info on or would like to see, just let me know! I'd love to keep making more videos like this. ❤️❤️❤️
I am a left-handed letterer myself, Maeve, and I am starting lettering with the Happy Ever Crafter, Becca Courtice. Our local left-handed teacher is on Instagram @tarynsdoodles. Her name is Taryn Nichols. I would recommend you follow her. She is just awesome. Sadly, fraying is a reality, friend. But if lettering is something for which we were made, we just have to do it.
Thank you! I am just starting to learn brush lettering and was getting frustrated with the upstroke as a left-hander...pushing the nib away to lean the letters to the right, at an angle. Your video helpss a lot!!
Thank you for sharing! Being a leftie is a bit frustrating! But it was handy building our house. Where it was impossible to hammer with a right hand he called me and I was able to finish it
Thanks for the video! I am left handed. I got faux calligraphy down, not perfect, but it’s working. But lettering is not working. I have turned the pages, angled the brush pen, etc. it’s just coming out all thick. I’m hoping practice and time will help.
Sorry for the late reply! Could it be the pen you’re using? They’re not all created equally and some are much better for beginners than others. I still have trouble with certain types!
@@LoveJessCo I bought MISULOVE brush pens from Amazon. I also saw that you can use Crayola. I’m failing at Crayola lettering too, so I’m not sure what I’m doing. Maybe I just need more practice. Thank you for the response!
Omg! Thank you so much!!! I always look up handlettering but mostly ALL of them are right hand people!!!!! You got a new subscriber :) Keep up the calligraphy leftie tutorial videos please!! :D
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I love doodle writing and have been practicing the hand lettering but have struggled greatly! You are an inspiration!
You can do it! Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm looking to do an updated version of this video soon, so hopefully there will be more inspiration coming!
Jess!!! I didn't know you could letter also! You are uber talented!!! My sister is a lefty so she would love these tips. Great video, my friend. Hugs, Maranda ♥
Thank you from a lefty. I have been wanting to learn Brush Lettering, but found it challenging. I hope you keep the videos going- I will be a subscriber!
Peggy Fitzmaurice thank you so much for watching!! I have definitely struggled to improve with lettering also, but I've come a long way! Don't give up! ❤️
I luv this video!! Thx!! I learned calligraphy at summer school when I was a teenager but haven’t done it in decades!! Gonna try ur tips. Time to bust out the moves 😂
i got a few brush pens because i was interested in hand lettering and then i looked up tutorials and realized "wAit.... i'm left handed. these tutorials won't work for me" because i tried it and i just couldn't get the thin upstrokes?? this was very helpful though. thanks for the video!
I know your comment is from a while ago- but I wanted to share that when I do my up strokes, I sort of lift my hand up from the paper. This is the only way I’ve been able to reduce my heavy handedness to get thin lines 😍
In order to be more comfortable writing on the far left edge, you could try butting the notebook up to a second notebook of similar thickness so that you have something for your hand to rest on.
I am a lefty and I would like to learn to hand letter. My aunt was a lefty and she had beautiful handwriting. A lady my mom used to work with also had beautiful hand writing and she was another lefty. I can write decently if I really try. 2 of my coworkers are lefties and they print or write small.
Hello 👋🏻 To avoid cramping up your words at the end of the page, you might want to unfold your notebook differently. Just keep one page in front of you, and put/fold all the rest of the notebook on the other side of the rings. You get both perks: writing on a single pge, and still getting all your work in one notebook! I always do that in my art classes to avoid this huge gap between my page and the table. :)
I know this video is from awhile ago, but my biggest issue is that I feel like my hand is all over the place. I’ve got the downstrokes pretty well and I’ve always had good handwriting, but my upstrokes are always feeling awkward, like I’m pushing my pen against the way that it wants to go, no matter how much pressure I’m using. I’m sick of doing it the “cheating” faux-calligraphy way! Thank you for the helpful video :)
Oh my gosh, I don’t know how I missed your comment!! Thank you so much for watching - I hope the video helped. How are you doing on your lettering journey? ❤️❤️
Bender Bending Rodriguez good call out! I had to google what it was so I definitely won’t be the go to expert, but maybe I can do a series where I learn it and give tips as I go lol! 😂
It’s crazy- I hear different experiences from other people, but that was always my experience. That’s awesome that lefties have a good reputation in your area! 😁😁😁
came here hoping to learn this technique, discovered that it is impossible. Because holding a pen and tucking my thumb inside me fist is never going to happen
I do like your instructions, easy to follow.
Will try this thanks!
Good luck! Lettering is such a fun journey!
Oh my gosh I don’t want to seem weird but where have you been all my life. Thank you so much from one Lefty to another. I can do many things with my right hand but writing is not one of them and especially pretty writing or clean. Thank you so much
Ah, you're so sweet! Thank you! I hope it helps. I'm hoping to do some more lettering videos in the future :)

Lefty! It's so nice hearing from so many lefties :)
I love notebooks but go backwards, back to front! Thanks for representing!
That’s a cool idea - I’ll have to try it out!
You are a very good teacher. Appreciate the examples you’ve given us…very non-threatening :)
Thank you! 😃
Thank you...I'm a left handed beginner in Calligraphy ♈️

Senior Lefty here! This is so helpful. Thank you! I have always angled my paper to the extreme right in a weird way to write..
Yay lefties!!! I feel like we all have weird ways of writing 😂😂
Binding part is the most difficult!
I definitely agree!
Thank you for sharing! Being a leftie is a bit frustrating! But it was handy building our house. Where it was impossible to hammer with a right hand he called me and I was able to finish it
Ha!! Lefties prevail! 😂
Thank you so much for showing how a lefty can hand letter! I've always wanted to do calligraphy but, being a lefty, there were never classes for me.
YES! The struggle is REAL! Thanks for the tips.
Lefties unite!!😍😍😂

Oh man, that about writing so wonderful, especially for a leftie
Thank you so much, Ann-Marie!

Thanks for your help! As a Louisiana native, I love the "You Are My Sunshine." That was written by a former governor and is the state song.
Ahh!! That's so cool! I didn't know that

just tell me why thanks for watching. Don’t give up! You definitely get better the more you practice, even if it’s just one word a day. ❤️
I have the same problem. I wondered if I hold my pen on the wrong angle.
I know your comment is from a while ago- but I wanted to share that when I do my up strokes, I sort of lift my hand up from the paper. This is the only way I’ve been able to reduce my heavy handedness to get thin lines 😍
There are left handed notebooks out there. Spiral is on the opposite side.
Great resource for lefties!
In order to be more comfortable writing on the far left edge, you could try butting the notebook up to a second notebook of similar thickness so that you have something for your hand to rest on.
That’s an awesome idea. I’ll definitely try that out!

Thanks for sharing...from a fellow Lefty Junkie
Janice Spaulding lefties unite!!! 😂❤️❤️
I keep my paper almost upside down for hand lettering! Just lefty things. Works for me. Just dropping it here..Incase anyone wants to try it out!
Great tip! Isn't it funny the things we have to do as lefties? :D
:D I'm with you on that!
False my handwriting is very neat! So is my dad's both lefties😊

Fellow stampjunkie here and I missed that post! I'm also a leftie and need to get more skills in this. Plus my pinky drags over the ink. Ugh...
Lefties unite!! :D I'm hoping to post more lefty videos in the near future :) We gotta stick together haha
can you make a video in copperplate for lefties?
Bender Bending Rodriguez good call out! I had to google what it was so I definitely won’t be the go to expert, but maybe I can do a series where I learn it and give tips as I go lol! 😂
9:46 OMFG every single time!!
LOL YESSSSS! No matter how many times I've done this, it still happens! :D
So you say that people say to you that left handed people don’t have nice handwriting,,,,,,,,,In my area lefties are known to be the best
It’s crazy- I hear different experiences from other people, but that was always my experience. That’s awesome that lefties have a good reputation in your area! 😁😁😁
A lot of us lefties have really bad handwriting!! 😢
I have bad handwriting, but a lot of people say in my area, that lefties are artsy, creative and smart.
9:58 same!
Can you say the name of the pen slowly or spell it, please.
The black pens with two tips are called Tombow Dual Brush Pens. You can find them on Amazon here: amzn.to/3J5Pt1E
OMG THANK YOU!!!! ;_______;
❤️❤️
Nobody did say that left-handed one can't write the opposite was it. That was my experience anyway
came here hoping to learn this technique, discovered that it is impossible. Because holding a pen and tucking my thumb inside me fist is never going to happen
Why do you add “Guys” in sentences, when it is better left out? I am not a guy, I am a gal!
Guys is not indicative of ‘males’ only anymore. I say y’all sometimes too. I am obviously also female and my audience is almost 100% female...
Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us that are left handed!
Thanks, Marcia! I'm going to have more lefty videos coming out this year :)
