Yeah,i couldn't see anything on the tool and had nothing better to do at 1am,but i might advise you that just recently i saw a video on youtube,and i can't remember who it was because it was a link to YT from some bike forum and the bloke used a air chisel gun to remove the race and it worked a treat,so if you have the compressor and the chisel gun that would be the way to go:)and yeah i don't think i am going to be a youtube sta😂r
Motion Pro makes excellent tools for professional mechanics. For the do it yourselfer, an air chisel is the way to go, it blows the bearing off in just a few seconds. Getting the new one on is another story if you don't have a press or another specialty tool. I had an XR650 and it was an awesome bike, would have even been a little bit better with E-Start and a 6th gear for dual sporting. Glad to see you keeping yours alive.
It is a nice tool, but it does not work on all stems. The height of the stem needs to be around 17,5-18 cm. To remove the inner race on my BMW K1, where the stem`s height is only around 16,3 cm measured from the upper lip of the inner bearing race, the black puller screw would need to be at least 2 cm longer. I will now put in a tightly fiiting piece of round metal, like the black disk which is included in the set. I will make it around 2,5 or 3 cm in height, then its should work. MotionPro should state a minimum lenght needed, for the stem. Best Regards, Frank, Germany.
Indeed, she sure is a bit rare....but, concerning the stem length it is not so rare. K100 LT RS and so on all have this length. In any case I will make myself an adaptor, like the black disk included with this tool. Only thicker. The it should work. Best regards to AU, Frank.
Nice video. Very informative. Seems like a very good contraption to install and remove steering head bearings. One quick question. Can this assist in removing the outer race that is press fit in the steering head collar (tube in the frame of the bike). I searched quite a bit on this but all I was able to get was only crude ways of hammering it from the top and bottom. Please help.
I have got a pipe with expanding flutes that you compress and place in the stem hole and then they spring out and rest on the inner lip of the race.However this does not work on bikes with steering key lock as the lock mechanism gets in the way,but it will work on Motocross bikes with no key lock.It's not ideal with alloy frames but using a punch from one side and moving it in very small increments is okay,here is the driver i use on MX bikes-www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1056/13986/Park-Tool-USA-Steering-Race-Remover:)

We in India generally do not have access to such intricate tools..may be importing from Amazon is the only hope..thanks a lot for the info..I have always been interested in replacing the steering cone kit at home.. lack of tools spoilt my plans...I at least know now that there are tools... thank you...:)
@@pradhanssrinivas7408 It is possible to make the tool that doubledown describes, from a piece of cro mo or high tensile steel tube cut x y along its length . The diameter would depend a little on the bike you want to use it on,but 90s mountain bikes that have been damaged often have 28,6 and 32mm tubes that are good.

Those other sizes are for different sized bearings, not all steering stems and bearings are the same size!!

Yeah,the chisel is a good idea,tha XR R is doing alright and the suspension works good over whoops,nothing unpredictable,but a bit scarey too.

Use an impact or a socket wrench for leverage. But that's carbon steel so its made for an impact
