- Making 16 pairs of Brian Brazeal pick-up tongs, commonly called “hammer tongs”. I also show a new anvil, new milk cow, and of course walk through the complex process of forging these tongs!

The end of the video you explain exactly why my hammer tongs don't seem to work for many sizes. I put the rivet right at the base of the jaws. Great video thanks for sharing your wisdom 🙌

It is always fascinating to me to see how our Creator God made us according to the golden ratio and as craftsmen, we know when things are or are not made according to it as well. We are designed by it and we are born knowing to look for it. When things look “off” to us, generally speaking it’s because our design (or mistakes) have caused the piece to vary outside of the ratio too far. The closer we make our tools to the ratio the better they look to our eyes because we are created in His image! Great video, excellent explanations.

Nice work. Making a set of hammer tongs is on my to-do list. This video will be helpful to me when I make my attempt; albeit sans power hammer. As if to verify my ceedentials as a pathetic, though enthusiastic, backyard hack blacksmith, those tongs that you rejected looked fine to me.
Awesome, id like to forge a pair of my own, would u be willing to tell me the hole placement/measurement for the rivot?
Would the tongs not hold better if the bend in the mouth is in the opposite direction?
Agreed on the tong theory, nothing worse than some kludgey reins. I still haven't figured out which is best between right or left handed tongs, I'm right handed, but most of my tong work is done using my left hand.
