- Another one of Dommo's songs about Irish building workers in Englang, this time sung by a young (back in the 80s) Scotsman called Billy Steven. He's singing up against the best but not making a bad job of it - for a Scotsman.
Great version , always liked the song. Dominic wrote a lot of good stuff.
Yes Billy, some of his songs have miraculously become "traditional" without people knowing who the author was.
How this isnt as popular as it should be ill never know.
You're right David. It should be part of musical classes in secondary schools.
Great song, hilarious but unfortunately very true, not just building sites nhs, care sector exploitation and back breaking work!
Hi - thanks for posting this. I'm planning a radio show on Dominic and I'm trying to track dwon some of his stuff without playing stupid money to a record collector. Give me a shout if you'd be interested in helping. Ta.
There's a lot of it up on line via this UA-cam Platform... God know's the Clancy Brothers and The Dubliners put Quite a lot of it out there..His Uncle was also a Legend being Peadar Kearney who wrote the Irish National Anthem , Down by the Glenside (The Bold Fenian Men), God Bless England - [Whack fall A diddle ] ua-cam.com/video/1sPXR8gDlEQ/v-deo.html Strong extended family tradition there, no Doubt...
Did you ever get around to making this program Gavin? Anyway of hearing it online now?
Thanks rdcjolo for the compliment. Crubeen, and inded their forerunner The Longkesh Ramblers, had quite a few decent songs. See also my video "Our last hope" by D. Behan sung by the Ramblers.
Good luck.
