66 is the number of the masks Kokoro was born from. It became 65 when she lost her mask of hope. Hence the imbalance she essentially lost a part of herself.

(Kokoro is the not only one Tsuchumogami at the game)
For anyone who has no idea what this song is about or no idea what Touhou 東方 is, this is a song about a character from the touhou games, a bullet hell franchise.
The character here is Hata no Kokoro
She cannot display emotions on her face and relies on her 66 face masks to do so.
In the events of the touhou game she's in, she has one her masks stolen, the one that displays hope, because of this she goes kinda berserk and becomes extremely erratic, hence the chaotic nature of this song, and also why the song constantly references hope. It's about trying to find her hope mask.

My "65"
I love how it started off with calm and soft vibes, then suddenly burst out into a chaotic vibe. Considering she used to have all her masks until a certain event (in Hopeless Masquerade), she lost her Hope Mask which made her go berserk.
Words can't describe how much I love Stack's voice.

At first this song was hella weird for me, but it really grew on me after a while
Thought it sounds pretty "ok" at first.
Few hours later i'm crying, because i see how it's filling me with so much emotion! Stack's songs are more than just music, they're making you feel along with the words and sound!

なんというか歌声がすごく強くてかっこいいわ
i'm sure someone has said this somewhere further down the line, but i'm so impressed by the way a comparison has been made between hata no kokoros situation and pandoras box! its so interesting to think that the loss of 'hope' first causes the rampage of her other masks, but also that 'hope' can be remade again and again when lost, so it will always remain in the pandora's box that is kokoro. i love it.
also, the song's an addictive bop and a fantastic interpretation of a really lovely base tune, the illustrations are cute, and the video is crazy good. overall just an amazing upload all around!

Been listening to this song from the 太陽の花 -Eternal Summer- album for months, but I've only been able to vaguely guess the meaning based on "66" and "65" and Hata no Kokoro's story.
Now that I can actually understand this song (thanks subtitles) to vivid imagery... it's so powerful!

Kokoro couldn't get her lost emotion back, as the masks she tried to replace the stolen one with were either too weak or too strong. Instead, she developed the emotion of hope on her own, thus gaining control over her rampant masks and learning to feel emotions herself. I love tsukumogami that develop character and personality like that! Deadpan Kokoro is cute. Great PV too, as per usual.

I know literally nothing about touhou but this character makes me feel super intrigued and super depressed at the same time. see I dont even know anything about the character so maybe this isn't depressing but. the masks just look foreboding (I know they're traditional masks and all but they seem to represent something here so......)
also the visuals here are fucking glorious 😩 this whole thing is so cool I almost cried no joke
Touhou is a bullet hell shooter game, well known for its danmaky fights, the majority of the cast are female , it centers around yokai and such supernatural beings while a miko solves incidents
The character is kokoro she is a yokai (Japanese monsters).... ( from what I can remember born from masks?) Her face is emotionless but she is emotional herself but cannot express it so she uses her mask to show how she is feeling...she looses her mask of hope and drives her crazy I advise you looking into hopeless masquerade since the whole lore is explained :)

This is the Stack's song that took me the longest to come to appreciate. The shift at 0:12 is so ugly and jarring, but it makes a great audible representation of Kokoro's sudden destabilization. Incredibly clever.
When the rest of the song sounds like a troll song but the main verse is pure fire.
