    Chiesa has looked exciting in every cameo he has made. Very smart and direct. Always manages to find shots in difficult situations.

    honestly had almost felt like there is a longer term strategy for Slot in bringing Chiesa in.....and saving him to build strength for more seasons.....hard to tell but I think he is still at LFC in August

    My feeling: I almost wish we didn’t have some of these other storylines like Darwin scoring and Elliot, because I’m so happy to see Chiesa out there. You also didn’t mention Endo who, I thought, had a great performance and may be working himself into a long term member of the team.

    Chisea in 10 mins prob showed the 2 best moments of exciting forward play , Darwin only 1 shot both our wide players created nothing for him, salah lovely finnish but was so so greedy loads times he shot wen he haf 3 or 4 players to pick out no idea why slit does not rest him late on in matches more

    Overload the opposition in the 2nd half, that’s where you improve and implement the things from learning in first half from your own team and what the opposition do. He’s a quick learner and implements changes. I do think against Forrest he should have played Nunez. Cause confusion to them. Cause them problems. He’s learned fast.
    Jota injured, and chiesa getting up to speed means salah has to start, otherwise he’d be off more at 60-70 minutes.
    Result, win, is all important now and to improve.

    Largely agree with your “feelings” except for Diaz: He has, it seems to me been turned into a fish out of water currently. Partly his own desperation to score, but also his extra work load which puts him in areas of the field during moves, where he can’t be as effective, can’t do what he does. I think in the hindsight of last night Cody was a better fit for that job - we will never know! However, when Frederico came on, he gave Diaz a lesson in how to move within that structure. Who’s to say if he would have been able to do that from the start, again we will never know.

    I haven't watched lille over the past couple of years but after the game tonight I wouldn't mind us pushing to sign Jonathan David. He's a free agent in the summer and he looks like a proper striker. Obviously I have no clue if he would suit our system but that's for the club to figure out.

    • @ThingsInc
      @ThingsInc 10 днів тому

      The way we try to feed the ball through the middle would suit David very well, I'm not too sure we need more attackers right now though

    • @TheAecke

      @TheAecke yes but that was against the best team in the tournament and he still managed to bag a goal despite having an off night. How players act and perform when things aren't going their way is much more important .

    Don't agree with your take on Jones, I'm afraid Laurence. I thought he was very poor in the first 30 mins - having one of his 'totally anonymous' shows, until THAT pass for Salah's goal. Thereafter, he was better, and certainly more involved, but still more decent/sound than good let alone outstanding. Salah was pretty much the same - very poor until the goal, and then scores with a brilliant Mo Special finish, and thereafter he was a bit better, but still not great. Quansah was just rock solid - which is just what he needed and we needed from him. Bradley was really good, and could have been outstanding if Salah had made some simple passes to him when he'd made some brilliant overlapping runs that left Lille gasping in his wake, but Salah kept ignoring him, and often lamely lost the ball instead. Kostas also had a good game, and it was interesting and reassuring to see how much direction he was taking from Virgil - who was his usual Captain Fantastic.
    Szobo was Szobo - incredible lung-bursting enery, speed and power - but he will never be a 10 in my eyes, he is an 8 all day long. We need someone with with much better control (physically, mentally and skill-wise) in the tightly contested spaces around their area, and they need a much better set of quick and inventive passing skills than Szobo will ever have. We should play Mac/Elliott at 10, and let Szobo utilise his running and pace in the more open spaces of a box-to-box no 8. Jones can be his cover man at 8, which is a powerful pair of options. Then let Endo continue as cover for Gravers at 6, and we have 3 great pairings for the 3 midfield positions.
    Chiesa is now showing his innate footballing intelligence and his elite level passing skills, and it will help the team massively if he can now start taking some of the burden off Mo on a much more regular basis. Gakpo and Diaz remain the best LW options available to any Premier League club. But the CF position does worry me. IN the slot we have neither the quality nor the strength in depth we have throughout the rest of the team. Jota is simply a liability fitness-wise and is not really a top elite level striker even when fit, and Darwin def not that. So, unless Danns can perform well when Jota is out, then we do have a problem there - and it is no co-incidence that we continue to rack up extraordinary stats for shots, chances and xG, but under-perform in terms of goals actually scored.

    I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually think Tsimikas is the better player at LB now. Credit to Kostas for the hard work and commitment to the club, he deserves the starts imo. He’s improved in his dead ball delivery too, that’s clear.
    But my god can we stop hitting the first man on corners so frequently, it’s awful.

Those who consider any player they consider not part of the starting 11 trash. I believe that no LFC player should have some diminishing label. No one on the team considers themselves peripheral, not trusted, or not good enough. This is the best team in the world and right now no one has figured out how to beat them on the pitch.
