Hey Bill. Good video. I love how you are so low-tech. You still get the job done though and done very well at that, as evidenced by your success on the pulling track.
I made a fixture we put on the mill that sandwiches the headgasket and then I trim the gasket out with a carbide endmill using circular interpolation on the cnc mill.
Awesome video Bill, lots of information too, can’t wait to hear it run, and see it pull, and what you use on your tractors would awesome to use on mine any day because it works for very well, God Bless
Hi Bill Great video, you know these John Deere engines perfectly.... We watch the entire video, second after second until the end... and... already finished!! Really well explained, despite my great age, I'm learning from you... and so much the better. Thank you so much 👍
I’m probably you youngest viewer I’m 16 years old loved tractor whole like I have a super m 53 lv plant pulling tractor 5500-6500 class I love your videos I enjoy watching and learning keep it up sir 😁!
I heard an old saying many years ago (like 40-50 years ago) that a Detroit is a drivers dream and a Cummins is a mechanics dream. I don't know much about engine mechanics (or any mechanics) but I think the saying means that Detroits are a PIA to work on and Cummins are not so bad. When I drove semi in the mid-90's I had one truck with Detroit in it (I believe it was a Series 60) and us drivers loved how the RPM's would fall so slow in the Detroits when you were floating the gears to shift (Cummins dropped fast). We would joke and say that we could comb our hair in between shifts and still make the shift. LOL. I sure loved driving that truck.
Mr Bill you know how to make them sing!! Next time you need to buy some gasketmaker or silicone buy Permatex Right Stuff it works the very best over all others. And it doesnt get hard in the tube , trust me i know its a little more cash but its worth every penny. Im very happy with it , buddy of mine who buikds drag racing engines swears by it especially on intake manifolds on twin turbo sbc .
Yeah we've got some of the good stuff for customers and applications of ours that really need it. I just have to save a little where ever l can, Dirt Farmers don't make much $.😁
Oops, I thought we were talking about my prostock, but I see the video you commented on was the old JD puller, and the only change I made was to get rid of the oil cooler.
You better hope these don't get to popular, the Deere Mafia will put out a hit on you. I was told it is illegal to build Deere engines in anything but a Taj Mahal with no clutter and only Snap On tools????? Didn't see any of that here. Now a lowly IH guy like myself has to wonder why I have been a meat head for decades and didn't think of chucking a cut off piece of sleeve in my lathe and turning a taper on the top ID so I didn't waste my life away with a ring compressor. Looks like I will be spending my evening out in my landfill of a shop looking for Sleeves that are junk that I never threw away. I told my wife, kids, and old man(before he died) that I would need those some day!
Hey TP! Great to hear from ya in Central PA. Don't tell any of your red buddies that you're watchin' a green goober in Southern MD, and heaven help you if they find out you might use one of my ideas!😁
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 Not to worry, major engine work to them is adjusting the valves on their lawn ornaments to go in a parade..........I have to use all my junk. A brillant idea is a brillant idea no matter where it comes from. Thanks for sharing because that is a good one! I got green stuff here too. Hate everything equal and it has to earn my respect.
Can’t wait to hear it run!
Dad was big believer on STP oil treatment on the bearings
You would have made one hell of a diesel mechanic teacher.
You have probably forgotten more specs and tricks than many mechanics will ever know! Great video!
Enjoyed this video more than I have words to describe. Been a few years since I have rebuilt an engine.

Wish my daddy was still alive he pulled a 4020 an he would have loved talking to you. God bless you my friend
I'm sure l would have really enjoyed talking with him too!
Oh the fun, wanna hear it run

High tech!
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226on my sons 4010 farm tractor we have 4 3/4 pistons and sleeves in it so we have to open the gasket up quite a bit
In joy your blue grass music back ground. But in joy your videos too. From gary
Good video. I enjoyed it with my coffee. That's my kind of background music

Looking good. I'm sure it will be powerful when you get it done. Thanks for sharing the video Bill.
Thanks 👍

Snoopy had to scratch them shop fleas. LOL. Not tedious at all. Enjoy watching it go together.

Hey Korbin! Glad to have you with us, sounds like a cool ride. l know of kids under 10 who are watching, so you're an old pro.
👍👍
I haven't heard wolf creek pass in years, LOL. great video. new subscriber from central Wisconsin. thanks, Mike.
l was listening to favorites CD. Welcome Mike! Thanks for subscribing.
Nice job!!
Love it! I know its hard work but it's a lot easier than doing a inframe on a semi! I have to takle a inframe soon on my old Detroit
I've got a lot of respect for Detroit mechanics.
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 thanks. It's not by choice but necessity

Glad you enjoyed it
Great video. Always learn something new from you. Thank you and may God bless you and your family always in Jesus name Amen 🙏. Pray for Israel
Blessn's to Y'all !
Since I bought an otc engine rotator I don't do any inframe overhauls. I remember lots of inframe engines

Take it up to Williams Grove this weekend 9500 lb turbo no speed limit she how it runs.
We've got a compact diesel pull right here in Davidsonville on Saturday that the boys are involved with, so l probably won't make it up there.
Do you use new head bolts ?
What about copper spray on the head gasket ?
Reminds me of my Ag mechanic classes ,
No new head bolts, when we use a copper head gasket we coat it with the copper spray or more likely the brush on coating.
Can you explain more on what you did to modified the oil pump?
I have a 5020 that either needs a new pump or the old one modified for more pressure.
Hey Mark, I was running an 8630 engine, and that oil pump was fine just as it was.
Oops, I thought we were talking about my prostock, but I see the video you commented on was the old JD puller, and the only change I made was to get rid of the oil cooler.
question, are your connecting rods, and the rod caps still the stock JD rods & caps? Or are they special made ?
Hey Steve! They are stock, not going to be making enough power to need anything special.
bill what you use on your tractors you can use on mine anytime! i used "clay" pizza boxes many times before!
👍😁
