Can we get an amen on that editing tie? Sound of Metal gets to share the spotlight with Trial of the Chicago 7, ushering its way to the Oscar BP nomination conversation.
@@asdfghjkl-uw4me can't argue with Nomadland perhaps being the best overall edited, but really happy to see Sound of Metal share the much-deserved attention with the more touted films. I think between this award and several others, the Oscar best picture nomination selections are starting to take shape.
How are people so surprised about Bakalova winning? Her performance was extraordinary and she's won the most precursors besides Youn. She has a ton of industry support as well. I'm more in shock by how many people are underestimating her.
Nomadland deserves to win best picture. I have never really ever seen a film like it and it really did affect me in a certain way. However, I wouldn’t say it is my favorite movie of the year or even out of the nominees. Regardless, it deserves all of the awards its getting
@@ClassicalMusic2002 she lost at the globes in “lead” and we all know the HFPA loves Rosamund Pike. Pretty sure she would’ve won in supporting but you can keep underestimating the passion behind her performance.
Why though? I thought Bakalova is fairly consistent. If she were supporting in GG, she for sure would have won there and now this is her "second" win. She's very likely gonna win SAG too and get nom for BAFTA which makes her frontrunner for Oscar. Unless she's this year's JLo.
Nomadland is winning Best Picture for sure. I can say the same about Chloe Zhao. I think Kaluuya and Boseman are going to win everywhere. I think Mulligan is winning. I have no idea who will win Supporting Actress. I don't think Bakalova will win. I think Nomadland is winning Adapted Screenplay. I'm still predicting Trial to win Original Screenplay but Promising Young Woman can absolutely win. Also in terms of tech categories. Trial winning Ensemble was obvious. It's winning SAG. It was a pleasant surprise seeing Alan Kim win Young Actor/Actress. I thought Zengel had that win because she actually got Supporting Actress nominations. In terms of tech categories, they are in line with my Oscar predictions. I think Ma Rainey is winning Make Up and Costumes, I think Trial is winning Editing, I think Mank is winning Production Design, I think Nomadland is winning Cinematography, I think Soul is winning Score, I think Speak Now is winning Song, and I think Tenet is winning Visual Effects.
A lot of good decisions! Loved the love (lol) for Ted Lasso, Palm Springs, Promising Young Woman. Can´t wait for the Oscar noms. By the way: Is there a chance the Oscar Expert will be the co-host to the Movie House Awards? As always loved the video, Austin! :)
Nomadland is beautiful and I am so excited to see so many females up for contention as directors this year. I hope Mulligan carries over to Oscars win as well as PYW for screenplay. Here's to hoping we get a Raci nom (at least) for the big show!
Critics always choose the best movies of the year, I am really glad that Mulligan and Fennel got their prizes instead of Golden Globe winners. I think critics choice for Best actress always picked the best performances of each year since 1995 till now. So fingers crossed for Mulligan.🤞🏻 Also all the other technical achievements and first prizes were well-deserved 👏🏻. I wish Oscars will go in this direction.
I still haven't watched Nomadland yet? Now can someone tell me is it any good? I love McDermand and I am also loving Chloe Zhao. I hope it's not one of those movies that focus on art than story, you know?
It was awesome to see a film that doesn’t follow all of the conventional rules of storytelling, naturally blending an incredibly raw and natural performance by Frances McDormand with nomads in a manner that no one seemed to be acting. Cinematography was nothing short of awesome also. Original, doesn’t scream “Hollywood production,” yet cinematically perfect imho.
For me it's the best of the year. So beautiful, the acting is outstanding, the script is simple but very well written, and the cinematography is just perfect.
@@rhythmoriented I can see all the positivity in this movie. I'll definitely watch it and I'm a sucker for beautiful cinematography. (Like, Rodger Deakins in 1917 and Blade Runner 2049🔥🔥)
I haven’t seen Nomadland because I live in Finland and it hasn’t come out yet. Also Promising Young g Woman hasn’t come out yet in Finland. I want to see those films now!!!
France has two Oscars already, if she were to win she'd be the second person in history and only living actress to have three Best Actress. I personally think that Mulligan was the best, this was a very different role for her (whereas Frances stayed in her usual area) and she nailed it
I'm genuinely not understanding the surprise behind Bakalova winning. She's been consistently viewed as the break out star this year and is nominated everywhere. If she were supporting at GG, she would have won there making the CCA her second win. Zengel and Seyfried are done.
I was very happy that Palm Springs won for Best Comedy! I knew that Carey Mulligan was going to win for Best Actress. I wish there was a tie with Tenet and Soul for Best Score, as well as a tie with Tenet and Nomadland for Best Cinematography. I still think Emma should’ve won for Best Hairstyle and Makeup and Best Costume Design. Ben Affleck the best performance of his career in A Way Back!
Glenn Close’s chances are definitely very slim. It’ll be hard to sweep this category. Colman probably has BAFTA. I don’t know who will get SAG, but Close already won recently so I think it’s Colman or the grandma from Minari
Everyone is seriously underestimating Maria Bakalova. I work in the industry and she's who everyone is talking about. She put herself in real danger for a role. I wasn't at all surprised by her win. She has a ton of passion within the industry.
In my opinion, I think she’s great, amazing in borat. It’s just that I don’t feel that her performance should win over Olivia, Glenn, Amanda, Youn, also Ellen. And I’m not saying Maria was bad or something, it’s just I don’t see borat the kind of movie that gives the Oscar to its cast, (like bridesmaids with Melissa McCarthy)
@@alexwest2945 Anyone that's ACTUALLY seen the movie knows she's completely deserving and you seem to be going out of your way leaving negative comments about Maria on other videos. Your opinion isn't exactly valid.

The hope is that the movie will not do well with the large Academy voters.
