This really makes me miss the 90's alternative rock scene.
I'm still there :')
Same Here
There was great music back then
Me too.
Same Here
Agreed. That was the best decade for music. No worries, no responsibilities except a job to get weed and party with friends. CD’s, concerts what a time to be living.
This is what sounds like transforming nostalgia and memories of your childhood into a song. It's impossible for me to hear it without traveling back in time when things were simpler.
Wow that is a perfect encapsulation of it ....thanks
yes!!!
This song just instantly brings me back to the 90s
If you love Smashing Pumpkins, then be sure to check out Billy’s (the vocalist and main songwriter of SP) awesome solo project band called “Zwan!!” Their debut album that came out in the early 2000s was amazing!!
Me too. I loved the 90's. I spent my 20's in the 90's. So much fun.
In the 90's it took me back to, well, 1979, because I’m that old.
Oh my lord.. 90's my early twenties.. what memories and good times🧡
@@jaycordner3890 ❤️ was my late 20’s. In 1979 I was 15. The song really reminded me of that age, even if it seems to have been dedicated to the generation born in ‘79.
This song makes my heart ache. I miss being a kid. ❤
Yeah... I also get the feeling of carefree youth in the summer time when I hear this song. Actually the entire point of this song.
I'm 40 in a couple of months and it's still as catchy as when we heard it back in 1995! Glad you dig it! Big hello from Ireland.
"Tonight Tonight" next. Probably one of the best music videos ever
Corgans voice is amazing! God I miss the 90's
Me too!
@@deanarjones9114 Me Three

Me five! 😁🤘

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is one of the best albums I ever heard
people who where into metal, D'N'B and punk loved this band and I think that album was the cross over. It was pure art.
Agreed. Takes me back to my early 20s.
I had tickets to see them back in 97 but couldn't make it to the concert due to a blizzard. They closed off the interstate and ended my chance at that concert...never did end up seeing them live.
The best double-cd I ever heard
If you love Smashing Pumpkins, then be sure to check out Billy’s (the vocalist and main songwriter of SP) awesome solo project band called “Zwan!!” Their debut album that came out in the early 2000s was amazing!!
I'm 62 and I know this song and The Smashing Pumpkins because my son loved them. I distinctly remember buying Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness for him.
This is a rabbit hole you'll enjoy. "Today," "Zero," "Cherub Rock," "Perfect" I can go on and on.
Perfect 😭😍😍😍
I’d love to see his reaction to rhinoceros!
... Try,Try,Try, Stand Inside your love, Thirty-Three, Eye, Soma, Mayonaise... damn. TSP and the ninties, best time of my life...
There's something so haunting about this song
This song takes me back to really young days. Your channel is killing it with the classics. Another banger, love it.
"Today" is another great one from them.
I love Billy's unique voice.
If you love Smashing Pumpkins, then be sure to check out Billy’s awesome solo project band called “Zwan!!” Their debut album that came out in the early 2000s was amazing!!
Your smile, while talking about this song, made me smile... groovy tunes 🤩
Love this kid. He's authentic
FOESHOW
Sighhhhh. Feels so good to see an old friend unexpectedly.
Please do "Today" next then "Bullet with Butterfly Wings"!!!
Don't forget Zero!
And ‘Cupid De Locke’.
Yes.
yes.
There's probably 50 Pumpkins song I'd recommend before those two song. They have much better work in their catalogue.
Funny that it's about 79 but the video clearly shows kids in the 90s when the song came out.
Another Great Song Today!!!
The singer Billy Corgan was like twelve years old in 1979 but just singing "nineteen-seventy-nine" sounds cool so that's what he went with. What he did was manage to write a hook that perfectly captures the feeling of nostalgia.
I adore the Pumpkins. Stand Inside Your Love & Tonight Tonight are musts.
Do "Mayonnaise!!!!" The emotional heart to the Siamese Dream album...
My favorite 90’s band. I’ve never seen a Pumkins Soma reaction. Come on, be the first. You won’t regret it.
This is a beautiful, song with a flawless groove. For a whole different, but equally catchy side of the Pumpkins try "Bullet With Butterfly Wings." It's a rager, and also has a cool video.
Tonight Tonight, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, and Zero are my faves
Mine too!!!
Mine as well. I got to see them once in concert, it was amazing.
@@spiral5650 they were my first concert! 1995. I was 15.
I was born in 1979 and this came out when i was in high school. I was a big pumpkins fan, billy's a great songwriter and was very prolific for quite a while
If you love Smashing Pumpkins, then be sure to check out Billy’s awesome solo project band called “Zwan!!” Their debut album that came out in the early 2000s was amazing!!
Same!👍
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 Zwan wasn't a solo project, it was new band that Billy tried. There are solo Billy Corgan albums (e.g. Future Embrace) but I'm not a fan of them.
@@Xenon0000000000001
I meant to say side project. I don’t think it really matters.
Billy is a musical genius. Mellon Collie changed my whole life ❤
Smashing pumpkins tracks:
Stand inside your love
Ava adore
Perfect
Tonight tonight
Here is no why
Cherub rock
Disarm
And so many more....
If you love Smashing Pumpkins, then be sure to check out Corgan’s awesome solo project band called “Zwan!!” Their debut album that came out in the early 2000s was amazing!!
Disarm is the one if he wants to understand Corgan.
@@thedeephouser6984
I think my favorite SP song is “Age of Innocence” off of their album “Machina/The Machines of God.” I must have looped that song on repeat a trillion times when I was working after this album was released. Sooo good. The album in general is bIoody fantastic and super underrated imo, but that song especially is just utterly magnificent!
Ava Adore.... damn I felt that song so hard. I should blast it in my car again.
awesome song. awesome year too.
damn this sounds like nostalgia straight up. when i first heard it as a youth it sounded so hopeful and free. now it almost sounds sad listening to it like a moment in time that's gone forever. anyone growin up in the 90's remembers how huge smashing pumpkins were. such a vibe when this would play on the radio while you were driving ya mom's car with your friends lol.
And now we're further in time from when the song was released than 1979 was from when it was released 😳
If you love Smashing Pumpkins, then be sure to check out Billy’s awesome solo project band called “Zwan!!” Their debut album that came out in the early 2000s was amazing!!
@- Raizor -
I hear ya! I feel the exact same way. Getting old _SUCKS!_
One song that makes it hurt to remember we were young
The Pumpkins actually weren't well appreciated in the 90's. I grew up with the Pumpkins as my favorite band and was made fun of for it constantly. I remember Billy's voice being the butt of constant jokes. They were popular, but not on the level of Nirvana, or NIN. The Pumpkins we always considered to be a niche band. I honestly feel like their music is more popular now than it was then.
In the late 80's and early 90's I saw them live in Chicago -back when they were just a local band playing local venues.
Pumpkins are a legendary band with so many different styles, you have to do ''Cherub Rock'' next!! For non-singles I'd recommend ''Soma'' or ''Mayonaise'' to start with.
"Mayonnaise" is absolutely wonderful.
Mayonnaise is amazing, one of my favorites ever
If you love Smashing Pumpkins, then be sure to check out Billy’s awesome solo project band called “Zwan!!” Their debut album that came out in the early 2000s was amazing!!
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 that Zwan album is definitely underrated, I don't think even Corgan remembers those songs anymore
Fair warning though: Smashing Pumpkins is primarily a hard rock band (most of their songs are way harder and noisier than this). But this song (along with other softer ones like 'Disarm') does show Billy Corgan's creative depth/diversity.
My favorite smashing pumpkins song. So nostalgic.
Jovaughn has discovered the Pumpkins! You must check out: “Zero”, “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”, “I Am One”, “Cherub Rock”, “Drown”, “Rhinoceros”, “Perfect” and “Luna”. That’s a great survey of their range
I would throw "Tonight, Tonight", Mayonaise", "Siva" , "Ave Adore", "Stand Inside Your Love" and "Untitled" in there as well... they have so many great songs.
Disarm too
Mayonnaise too
Pretty much everything on the first three albums (plus Pisces Iscariot) is great. For me, "Thirty-Three" is the most unappreaciated track they made.
Great list of fantastic songs 🔥
One of my favorite Pumpkins songs, along with Today.
It's crazy to think this song was thrown together at the last minute and almost didn't make the album.
Good song. I remember seeing their video for Bullet With Butterfly Wings when it came out. That is what made me by the album.
such a good song 💓
Check out their song/video ‘Perfect,’ considered a follow up to ‘1979’ and seeing what happens to these kids when they get older
Tonight, Tonight and Bullet With Butterfly Wings are one of their best songs, you should really listen to those .
I know first hearing means nothing but this is pumpkins when mtv showed music
I was born in 1979. One of my best friends is an Indie club DJ and every year, on my birthday night out he would play this song for me! ☺️
"Tonight, tonight" "Zero", "Thirty three" all straight classics
Smashing Pumpkins were elite in the 90s and had a lot of great songs, this album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was double album and it was huge. My favorite song of theirs will always be Disarm, from a previous album because it has this pathos that wrenches the soul. (Also it kind of reminds me of a friend of mine who died of AIDS at 19, so there's that.)
Billy Corgan has a hell of a voice and is super creative.
Born in 1979. This is my 2nd favorite song by Smashing Pumpkins. 1st is Bullet With Butterfly Wings.
Such a great nostalgic song! Be aware, this was a mellow song for them: they were right up there with Niravana and AIC for being the hardest rocking band of the 90's. Check out "Cherub Rock", the lead off single from their awesome album, Siamese Dream. Some other great songs to check from this are "Today", "Disarm" and "Rocket". THanks for listening and sharing!
Peace from SF
I'd love to see you react to the more rock heavy Pumpkins songs like Today, Cherub Rock, Ava Adore. 1979 is a bit too poppy to give you a real sense of what the band is about
This is one of those songs that just fills me with nostalgia. It makes me feel like it's the 90's and I'm a teen again!
My favorite song by far of theirs is Bullet with Butterfly Wings. Highly recommend to see a different side of the band.
This song is straight nostalgia for me. Love it! If you havent done Tonight Tonight........that is a must next.
This song is definitely my late teen years! I remember blasting this song cruising down the highway, car packed full of me and my friends.
Heading to a wild party out in the middle of nowhere.......... not a care in the world.
This song always makes me smile and remember great times of being a young adult in the late 90s. Thanks for reacting to this bro.
The 90's had some great alternative music.
I love the way you react to such a variety of music. It's been years since I heard this song and its phenomenal. The Smashing Pumpkins are phenomenal. All the recommendations here are amazing songs. My personal favourite is Tonight Tonight. I wouldn't know where to start talking about it. 1979 sweeps right into the heart and soul.
And now you react to my favourite song of all time! This is just pure nostalgic tune. I love the Smashing Pumpkins with all my heart. And those years will not come back.
The nostalgia this song brings makes me tear up 😢
Please react to: Smashing Pumpkins -Bullet with Butterfly Wings -Tonight, Tonight -Today -We Only Come Out at Night -Thanks!!!
“Today” is their best song, IMO. “Tonight, Tonight” is their most popular song. “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” and “Zero” best capture their sound. Disarm is a really good one too.
Love the Smashing Pumpkins! Some people cant get past Billy's voice for whatever reason, but just listen to the songs themselves and enjoy!
Bringing back the memories tonight my friend!♥️
Smashing Pumpkins- Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Love the guitar on this track.
Tonight, Tonight is a must!! The whole album is a masterpiece with very unique, nostalgic sound and mood..
I grew up in the 90’s and my older brother loved this band, every time I listen to this song it makes me feel like a kid again.
I saw them, and Garbage opened. Memories. Anything on Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie...
This is pure 90's! This is Smashing Pumkins!
I was a couple of years too young when the Pumpkins became massive but when "Tonight, Tonight" came out it had an incredible impact on me and it is still one of my all time favorite songs. That song kinda was my gateway to the Pumpkins and although I don't know many songs by them I was at least always open to their music and furthermore interested in their band history. Over the years songs like "Daphne Descends" or "1979" really grew on me and I gotta say especially the latter one is such a great chillout song for a warm summer day. The Smashing Pumpkins are a fantastic band and they deserve their status as one of the most influential American groups from the 90s. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻

Smashing Pumpkins has a lot of awesome songs. Great band.
James Iha, in my opinion, may be one of the most underrated guitarists of the last three decades. (Include Vernon Reid in that.) Even with their first viral hit Cherub Rock, you could just feel his intensity.
(You really should do a react to Cherub Rock)
I was about to be a Freshman in high school when this song came out. Great song. Love these guys.
The riff is Billy's voice
This was a love letter to juniors and seniors in high school. When this came out, most of them were born in 1979.
Yep, my birth year can confirm lol. Song brings me back. Miss the 90s.
Yup. ‘78 here and it was spot on for me when it came out.
@@allieren 78 as well. This song felt personal.
Wow!! I was just listening to this today - it's on my playlist!! ❤ I love this song 🎵
The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most under appreciated bands of the 90's. I'm glad people are finally appreciating just how amazing they are. They were my favorite band growing up. Siamese Dream and MCIS were the soundtracks to my adolescence.
Love that you checked out and liked this Pumpkins tune. I was 18 in 1979 and this is pretty much how it was. Parties, cruising with friends, and no real consequences. Was a great time to be a teenager and most of us turned out just fine and have great stories to tell!
When we used to play this live, people FILLED the dance floor!
It's about time you did some Mighty SP!
Cherub Rock, Tonight, Tonight, & Disarm should go on your to-do list
All great songs.
The 90s again. Another amazing tune. 90s will never ever be touched for quality!!!!!!!! Unique.
Such a vibe. This one is special to me. 1979 was a big year for me, and I love this band. My BFF and I loved this song because it described us the year we met. She passed away in 2019, and her birthday is tomorrow. I got chills when I saw your thumbnail. ❤️
Smashing Pumpkins has always been one of my all-time favorite bands. The video for their song "Perfect" is a sequel to this video with the same characters as they are a little bit older and in college instead of high school.
Born in 79 and proud of it. :D
"Tonight, tonight" is another great hit.
I found this song a few years back. Only knew Smashing Pumpkins from Simpsons aha. And I listened to this song non stop that first summer. Walking home from a nice day to this song is straight up vibes
the last scene, Billy is in the back seat of the car, leaving a part of his childhood behind.
Smashing Pumpkins - Today. Please!
I was 14 in 1979 and this damn MV near has me in tears every time. THE NOSTALGIA .. omg.
I was 15 in 1979. And...yes
Love seeing you smiling from start to finish.
One of my favorite songs of all time. God that nostalgic feeling you get when those lyrics hit and those little guitar sounds at the end of every sentence, then the main rift kicks in. It’s odd because I wasn’t born at or before this song was released, I was born a year after this came out and I can still feel that sense of nostalgia for my teen and preteen years at age 25.
saw then play in 96 at the Hollywood Palace..a small venue here in L.A..best concert I have ever seen
They do a good job of building up the sound and then backing off, leaving space..
A crush of mine in the late 90s was a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan. Listening to their music reminds me of cool autumn nights outside a Blockbuster shooting the shit with him before going home. You’re right that this song makes you want to reminisce. The music just draws the memories up.
2:34 "it was just... PERFECT"
I think you stumbled onto the next SP song you should listen to
Yes!!! PERFECT is so incredibly beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
If I'm not mistaken Perfect is kind of a sequel to 1979, so there ya go.
Amazing song. My older bro introduced me to this band in the 90's and It's great. The 90's were honestly amazing and i feel glad I grew up then compared to now. Instead of just competing with each other on social media and spending 24/7 looking at your phone, we had so much damn fun outside, and there seemed to be so much variety in people.
1979 is epic. Same sort of vibe with their song "Tonight, Tonight" or go for the heavier stuff with "A bullet with butterfly wings".
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness ( album from which this song came off of) was the soundtrack that hubby and I roadtripped on our honeymoon. This song brings me waaaay back!
this song was def in my rotation of songs to jam to back then. Man, I love these 90s music reactions..really takes me down memory lane
I miss the 90's...best music and best years
I discovered this song through GTA 4, now it's one of my favourite songs!
This and Cherub Rock are my favorite Pumpkins tracks.
I was 17 back in '79. Best of times! This has always been a favorite of mine . Love the sound.
This song made me love Smashing Pumpkins.
