    Keep going mate..I’ve been an owner driver for 30 years..I’ve had 3.5 t - 44 t artics..now I’ve got one 18 ton rigid , working for a pallet network. I stay in one postcode..home every night..fuel bills have never been so low..sometimes it takes time to find a job that suits. I had 3 company’s go bust on me in 10 years.
    I nearly packed up myself but sometimes it can make you stronger!!! Good luck .

    Where you're going wrong is you need to get out of the driving seat. Work on the business and not in the business. You're a driven individual, and I salute you for hard work and determination you will get there. Just remember, work on the business, not in the business, and you will start to fly..

    I take my ( metaphorical) hat off to you. As an ex driver who decided early on in my career to remain an employed driver for the very reasons you pointed out, too much hassle, companies not paying (should be taken to court,but that is probably prohibitively expensive) and having to spend all my free time looking for work. I admire you, and hope it all works out for you. Don’t mind what others say regarding contemplating giving it all up, to paraphrase, he who hasn’t tried something hasn’t tried anything.

    Oh crap! What a tough couple of months mate. I used to drive for living myself, I do miss trucks but not the headaches that go with it. I have returned to my trade as a service engineer, self employed and working as a subby for another company, its not ideal as I would rather have my own work and have a higher profit margin, but like yourself, it is regular and its an income. I'm still my own boss, but with positive attitude and patience I know I can get my business on track to where I want it to go. Like you've mentioned, I have had people laughing and talking about me behind my back when the shit hit the fan a while ago, but that has now fueled my determination to succeed and have the business I have always wanted.
    You are a genuinely decent bloke, and wish you all the best.
    As Rocky said in the movie, "its not how hard you hit, its our hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward! That's how winning is done!"😂😂

    I think what you are doing is the stuff most of us dream off. You can’t expect to build a reputable business in a short space of time. Be honest, be reliable and be yourself. You are doing great and don’t worry about people talking behind your back, jealousy is a terrible thing and I am sure will prove them wrong.

    Hi mate. Keep your chin up as times are hard. I know what you are going thru as I run a family business alongside my father and brother. Transport is only a part of our business but the headake it can give you is unreal. I've learned on thing for sure, don't let any one try to push you around simply cause they pay you. We are all grown up people who relay on each other so once some ones try to push me around for any reason, I'm done with it. In my opinion its the only way to be saccesfull in business. So keep your chin up and all the best for you.

    Been there done that, direct work, subby work, firms going bust, firms making claims, trucks breaking down, accidents, hunting for work, finding no work, employing 2nd driver (biggest mistake ever) etc, 25 years o/d,. untill 2000, went to work for someone else as a driver and started to earn decent money, 22 years later 2023 aged 68.5 i retired from transport , wild horses wouldn't get me back behind the wheel, and thats from someone who loved the job, the trucks, the lifestyle, .working for someone else earnt me thousands, i saved £25000+ during covid, ive got 52 years state pension and 12 years workplace pension and a meager £15000 personal pension i scraped together as an o/d,. ive given road haulage, uk/european/ireland 52 years of my life, i'm done,.....

You’ve been to hell and back but that can be business take note of what’s happened and write it down in you dairy and use it for your planning for the end of this year because it will happen again so PLAN and get hold of the post office work again. Take your truck off European work end on November. Credit - try and see if they will pay you every 15 days for 3 months!! Also invoice as you go along not all at the end of the month, invoices issued towards the end of the month and paid at the end on the following month is not 60days credit probably your taking 45days average. I wish you the very best, you certainly ware your mood on your shirt sleeve’s . Love to your family ❤

    Hi David. I know how you have been feeling. I had the same in the '80's I did a lot of return loads on a regular basis from Scotland, and when I chased late payments I was told we have declared bankruptcy. As an O/D this was the last straw as 6k at the time was a not something I or bank could tolerate. I wish you all the best for your future.

  • @anthony1636
    @anthony1636 6 місяців тому

    Hi mate fully understand your predicament. I think I covered this in one of your earlier vlogs. I went through the same problems as you. Trying to work through other hauliers, but of course you end up only getting what work they cannot cover. But as soon as work slows down you get nothing. If you are on a load to say Italy and a reload has been cancelled, then it will be you sitting and waiting not their vehicle.
    I also realised that running another truck was one stress to far for me. So I only ran one truck for me. I also spent a lot of time researching working for a bigger company. I will mention a couple of companies. DSV. or lkw walter. You will know them. Now many people told me do not go there the rates are crap. Yes their rates are not the best. BUT they kept me working as much as I wanted. I did not have to spend time looking for work. I would get loads out and reloads back. Those companies are not the only ones. It worked for me and I made a good living from it. Do not give up but maybe go back to one truck and look after yourself. I also forgot to mention the fact that I used their trailers so one other cost not to worry about.

    It's disgusting how people can wish you to fail. I had it in my former job where 2 former Class 2 drivers mocked me for going for my Class 1 licence, they said "IF" I pass I'd hate it and be doomed to handballing 44 tons trucks. Flip to now 2 years on and yeah I may not work every day on agency but hey they're stood in a freezing cold bus depot up to midnight on late shift for minimum wage and if I do say 6 months out of the year and lounge around on the beach in summer or sit playing PC games in winter I still earn 3 times what get. Who's laughing at who?

    I hope you can making it work bud ! Owning your own business isn’t easy and unfortunately it seems to be getting slightly tougher. You do seem to be so professional about it all so I am sure there’s going to be some good contacts reaching out ! Hope the private life isn’t the reason you have no work (OF and all that)
