You are going to keep me driving my Saturn for so many more years. I've already used two of your videos to guide some self made repairs. Now here comes the third! THANKS!
Very well designed car and easy to work on.One other thing i noticed is it holds up to the salt up here in the northeast like no other car i have seen.
Is there a trick to installing the lock rings on the door, without breaking them? One of mine fell off, and I got replacement ones but I want to install them safely because they are not easy to get one's hands on.
I should have watched ur video first , I could have saved some time. I used ur video on a 06 Saturn ion. Very good instructions and had this job done in 30 minutes. Thank you for your Videos!
Thanks for your video. It sure did help. Too bad Saturn is out of business. When I got the panel off and looked at it... The first car I ever removed the outside panel on... It made a lot of sense.
thx, i got a saturn sl2 and this video will help me get inside the skin panel. i do car audio as a hobby and the exterior door panel sounds so cheap, so i want to sound deaden it. also your other video showed me how easy it is to remove the interior headliner. which i will also sound deaden. there's alot of usefull videos here.
I'm in the Chicago area and there are ample yunk yards here in the city so I ended up buying a complete door. So I just used swap the cylinder from the one I purchased.
hey, how does one remove the lock cylinder for the trunk? i fiddled with it the other day and discovered their's a piece of broke off key way down inside and i wanna pull it off to try and tap it free. :)
I can only imagine how many times your wife has walked in expecting to use the car only to find you have it all taken apart while shooting a video haha Great tutorial
Hi there, was wondering if you had any videos on repairing or replacing the trunk release cable on the inside of the Saturn? Mine is a 99 sl2 with the pull up lever next to the drivers seat. Thanks for all the great vids!!!
Great video.... Got mine all apart but the clip to the lock is brokern.... I see yours is BLUE... Mine is white and broken, thats why the key will not unlock the door... How do I replace the plastic clip attached to the back of the lock cylinder ??
I found out that to get the two bottom bolts out you should take off the inside door panel and grab the retaining clips on the plastic with a pair of vise grips to hold them otherwise when you turn the screws the plastic will break.
could you post a video on how to repair or fix broken/ stuck latches on rear door panel on 99 saturn s series. seems like a common thing on them and cant figure out how to do it.
are the doors closed circuit? My 2001 sl2 rear driver side door has no functioning power locks or windows. All other doors are fully functional. Thank you in advance.
Is this pretty much the same deal as an 2001 L series for removing the lock? sure like the fact that the outside door skin comes off. Much better than screwing with the interior panel.
+richpin06a Sure is hard to find anything like this for an L series. I can't even find replacement lock cylinders for an L series, S series they're all over the place. The L series has key to code ignition cylinder, S series you can buy a cylinder with keys. It's so annoying to have a car given to you when some stupid family member lost the key for it.
richpin, it seems you have a lot of experience with the saturns. what is your overall rating of how good these cars are/were? I've always found them to be, for what they were designed to be, relatively very dependable cars. But your experience may show otherwise.
(1997 Saturn SL2) Today, after I tried to lock my 4doors by pushing the electronic lock button on the inside door panel, the lock became stuck & starting making loud noises on the drivers door & driver side back door. I took a key & popped the black lock button back out, the buttons are both broken now. Is there a part deeper in the door I should be looking for, and if so, what's the name of that part ?
Great video but I am having trouble finding your video for the side mirror. I see one for the Nissan, is it the same process? Do you have a link? Thanks
You mention that those T30 screws around the door perimeter are tough to get off. Inevitably, most will come off w/o too much effort but the 1 or 2 remaining give you such a fit that you just want to replace the entire door. And the screw head grooves are so shallow it is very easy to wear those grooves down. Any recommendations on how to get those cemented, tough screws off at that point?
Great video. I'm working on a 2000 SL2 as a hobby car. Question I need to replace my driver side lock cylinder. No junk yard has it. Can I replace it with my passenger side lock cylinder or are they not the same?
On my Saturn Sc1 since it is a two door I bought it from a private party but the two doors don't lock or the passenger door does not open from the inside. The Drivers door doesn't have the lock cylinder from outside which is visible. But how can I find a way to lock both doors and make the passenger door open? I would really appreciate the help.
Awesome video Rich. Is there any trick to putting the panel back on with the strip on the top? A video showing re installation would be awesome, or just a talk through. Also, the only locks I've found were ~$120, does this sound right?
richpin06a That jpeg would be handy if you can send it to me, eb121209@gmail.com, Thank you. Also, through GM, both locks are about 200 dollars. Is there any aftermarket locks we can buy?
Do you if the electric lock and window doors are interchangeable? I have a manual window and lock 98 sl2 and I want to replace the door because it was in a accident . I found one at junk yard, but it is electric.
Careful. I snapped off 3 of the torx bolt holders on the panel trying to get them out. I did that on my L 200 too. Once those are broken off your pretty much screwed. It's only going to be held on by some of them that are left. When you hear a Snap, you've broken the tab on the panel. I dont believe theres a fix for this, either. it there is, someone let me know. Most of them did come loose easily.
left front door lock cylinder, the plastic arm that the rod that goes to the actuator (I think) ,broke.I can't find where to get a lock cylinder for 1999 saturn sl2 where can I get a cylinder?
Looks like getsaturnparts still has them www.trademotion.com/parts/index.cfm?action=partDetail§ion=BODY%20HARDWARE&group=DOOR&subgroup=FRONT%20DOOR&component=LOCK&partnumber=21170985&vehicleid=85736&siteid=214643
nm, not a broken key, but lil pieces of debris, i pulled the cap and door of and used a lockpick to fish it all out, blasted it with some cleaner and put in some dry wax lube to keep it happy :D.
HELP HELP HELP!!!! I HAVE A 2000 SATURN SL1 AND I NEED TO REPLACE MY DOOR LOCK CYLINDERS. I need to replace the exact part that "richpin" removes in this video. I cannot seem to find these anywhere! It is a discontinued part. Somewhere on the Internet they have to be available to me… Can anyone help?
+richpin06a I looked up that part number and it is the whole entire locking mechanism. That is not the door lock cylinder with you removed from the video.
+richpin06a have you found out anything else? I have called my junk yards in my local area and they don't have any Saturn's available. Discontinued part with GM. and absolutely nothing online...
After endless calls to auto repair stores with no luck finding cheap car door locks, I went to an Auto Recycle (pull apart) and located two matching locks with keys. No recoding here. Parts cost $8.99 with tax and enviromental fees. If the keys are attached by wire around the streering wheel, {cut the wire and retrieve keys}

I love rich pink. I'm in the same boat, 02 SL1
@@BenSamaChanI gave my 97 to a friend in need and got a 05 Toyota Prius. Jumped from 35 MPG to 50 MPG. But Sometimes I still miss my Saturn.

richpin, this helped out so much! keep up the great work. finally, some youtube videos that actually HELP people.
Thanks for your video. It sure did help. Too bad Saturn is out of business. When I got the panel off and looked at it... The first car I ever removed the outside panel on... It made a lot of sense.
Fred Flintstone, There is a fuse for the door looks in the interior fuse panel.Take a look at your door switch as the culprit.

@@M0008P yes sir one of the perks of big city living i guess.
Where can you find replacement cylinders?
Thx, from Frank w the $300 Saturn, just changed out my cylinders, step by step, went like gravy..
Good video. Easy to replace a door skin. Seems like a lot of work to remove a cylinder. Much easier to do on a VW. Thanks for the video. /John

I'm hoping this will be similar to an L series. I'm going to try to replace glass. Not much info on that. I believe it's done from outer side.

+Chris Glines Two things you can try are super glue solvent or a solder iron to the bolt head to soften the loctite on the threads.

Hey Rich , 95 saturn sc1 door lock broke cant get door open , any ideas thanks . Great work on all the vids very helpful : )

As far as i know all 96-99 SL doors should be the same.
This is also for the Fiat Punto 1994?
i know this is random and i prolly wont get an answer but anyone know of where i can get a new door lock cylinder
Well that is the first thing that needs to be fixed.

@wildwind03 Mirror removal will be different .
aa what happens when the Little

is this similar to a 1995 toyota corolla
uhhuhhuh. "Beavis, you don't wanna damage the skin." heh heh heh, "Ya Butt-head, don't go too deep."
No the corolla is different.
They should be able to do that for you.

When oh when shall someone teach Rich to pronounce his "r's" correctly....?
RandallFlaggNY You came here to complain about how he speaks when he posts so many helpful videos? Shame on you.
We'all from Boston will pronounce our R's better when the rest of you start saying ROOF instead of RUFF.
Sheesh !
