only the rich kids had schwins where I lived as a kid. the rest of us had kmart or western auto stingray knockoffs. Parents had no problem saying "no" back in the late 60s / early 70s.
A real stingray made you instantly cool.
Great classic bikes, i had an 'Orange crate' in about 1970, must have weighed 50 lbs but at age 15-16 who cared or knew-- just loved that chrome sprocket and front drum brake not to mention springer front end
Pacific Cycles bought out Schwinn and manufacturing is now done in China. The best of the repops were the 98'-99' Krates that was made in Taiwan. The welding was same as the Chicago made Schwinns.
steppenstone808 Not even as close! All shit after it went overseas!
@@schwinnstingrayguy3757: You can't say that the Taiwan reproductions are cheap, you obviously haven't seen, for example, a 1999 Country Time Stingray. Hell, they even built a stronger fork, therefor improving on the original Stingray design. Since the U.S. government abandoned the quality of life for its middle class, Schwinn eventually had to go to China in the year 2000 or so, and of course the Giant company in Taiwan was then abandoned by the the new ownership of the Schwinn company in favor of producing cheaper made bikes for the poorer middle class that the U.S. government had created.
heaven on earth
this is awesome, i just bought a 71 blue single speed and im bringin it to kratefest 2009!!!! can't wait to see the muesium
i know i would buy one off him even if it was recked i would fix it up! thats the fun part!
SCHWINN=GOLD: buy each and every one while you can that was made in Chicago,U.S.A.!!!
I grew up in the '60s....rode Schwinn stingrays, beat em to hell and enjoyed every second of it...had one with extended forks...it looked cool but was hard to makes turns on it....loved those sparkled banana seats
Damn..had one of these when I was 14. Both my tires were same size and white walled. Had the 6ft tall sissy bar on it. Had black cloth tape on the handle bars and pushed the bars forward slightly. Then stretched aluminum foil through the spokes. Lightening auto drag flaps on the rear of the frame and finally a car antennae. Man I had to fight a lot to keep that bike from being stolen. I couldn't take it out of the house sometimes.
I made the painting in the opening shot , I'm glad you're taking good care of it .
kool place i use to have the 5 speed with 2 sets of bars and then a varsity 10 speed!!!

Right you are about the Taiwan made Schwinn Stingrays. I own a 1999 Country Time Lemonade Stingray that I customized, but can bring back to its original state. Taiwan is where the best bikes are made these days. I also own a Specialized Stump Jumper, also made in Taiwan. Giant bicycles did a good job of reproducing the Stingrays, too bad the Schwinn company messed up with them, sold out, and moved to China. I also own a 2007 Black Friday Stingray. ZiggyboyBulletDotCom.
Johnnie Dorman China and Taiwan and Japan are all the fucking same country! (Not really but it seems) and they all have cheap ass horrible quality bikes and China and Taiwan are just shitty ass 3rd world country's that no one cares about!
@@schwinnstingrayguy3757: If you think that companies located in Taiwan, like Giant Bicycles and the Specialized mountain bike company are cheaply made and made with a lower quality as the Chinese bikes are, you better take another look. Taiwan sets a good example and China doesn't like it.
nice im getting a yellow boys fastback 5 speed
I recently rescued a irate that some heartless soul left in their garage after badly painting it red from lilac I'm in the process of bringing it back to its former glory, only thing I'm having trouble with is finding a seat as I'm in a small uk town and just a broke single parent any advice would be great (previous owner stripper leather off the seat and covered it in ductape like a lunatic)
i had Schwinn Sting-Ray green pea-picker
I use to have a chopper when i was a kid i got it from a car boot sale for a £10 it got robbed a few weeks later of having it and returned but i dumped it as it was wrecked but about 11 years or so later i found out it was worth a couple grand gutted

Do you sale bike's ?
i just CREAMED my fucking pants....
any one got an apple krate for sale?
A krate * not irate lol
Winderful to see appreciation of these kind of bikes, however incredibly selfish and mean to keep them all locked away so people cant ride them!!! :-P
All of these bicycles are beautiful and great to look at but I must say they are really going to waste they should be auctioned off or have a raffle for each one of them it's alright to keep one of each but two keep a lot of bicycles like that locked up doesn't really make any sense to me you should raffle them off for anyone 60 and over that would be real nice
me too & I'm a chick LOL
now made in CHINA
Amazing bikes,,, im 15 and i love them,,, just got my dads old 57. he says it was amazing but his brothers and their sons tore them up so i have to fix it up,,, its still amazint to thing about thought,, its over 50 years old and a new generation and yet kids still love the old days,,, i wish i was born in the 50's
