A classic piece of great mall pop. And definitely part of the wave of girly voiced young female vocalists that record companies kept scouting in the wake of Madonna’s debut. Tiffany was obviously more of a suburban image, but that fresh girly voice (like Debbie Gibson, Martika and the reinvented Belinda Carlisle) became huge. Of course M brings the gutsiness, the urban style and just the substance This song was used to great effect recently in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. It’s brilliant when a song with a certain kitsch value is recontextualised to create a clever atmosphere in a film or show
Tiffany started at the mall cuz Center Court was the only venue she could book at 15 years old. But the mall strategy paid off big time and made her a legit star ⭐️✨She achieved two #1 singles and a #1 album off that ‘87 Mall Tour. Her other single Could’ve Been is a great power ballad. Imagine if Madonna’s people had booked her on a mall tour BUT smartly made deals with Merry-Go-Round, Spencer’s and Claire’s to get a cut of the wannabes’ clothing and accessory purchases? 😂😂😂 And then buy her cassettes at Camelot Music? How much coin would that have been? 💰💰💰 By the way, Tiffany is 49 now and still singing! I think she even did another mall tour! Sadly, the mall in the video has since been torn down.
Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were 2 pop teens during a time when there were already not too many women and almost no teen girls at all. Both had their own charm and killer vocals 🔥.
I am now a 53 yr old gay man, and still love Tiffany, such an underrated vocalist, please react to more of her 80’s hits. I would love for you to do her song/video for “All This Time”, I live for vocals on this song.
I was just shy of four when this record dropped and this along with Kylie's Locomotion (Mike Duffy version) were the records as well as accompanying video clips that started a lifelong obsession with music and clips! So awesome to see your reaction to this!!! xxx
This is an actual cover. The original was Tommy James and the Shondells from 1967. Tiffany still is producing music and touring, we used one of her more recent songs at our wedding.
My first concert! 3rd grade, 1989, Tiffany and New Kids On The Block. I don't remember all that much of it, except that it was very loud. Oh, and Tommy Page opened, may he Rest In Peace. He came off very sweet and his songs from his first album (at that time it was his first) were catchy.
Tiffany was such a crush back in the day. This song was absolutely huge in the late 80s. The battle between her and Debbie Gibson. Tiffany was all about the vocals and Debbie was the well rounded musician. I actually saw them perform together back in 2012 or so. Was so fun. Your reaction was so much fun to watch!
It really does have to be said. This song, the memories, the nostalgia, I do think we're looking at it with rose tinted glasses. There is a very good reason that the music video is mostly shot in a shopping mall. Still a good song though and as long as the history books are being made Tiffany's Heel-Slide dance move will be in one of those books. It's also impossible for the universe to lose information som even if the history books do not get made anymore her dance move will still be out there spinning around a blackhole or summat.
The interesting is there are hundreds of Tiffanys now but they are rarely noticed. What I mean by that is there are so many talented street/mall musicians that carve out a little niche for themselves but don't go big time. Ironically reacters never give them their due.
I lurved Tiffany so much. She was battling it out with Debbie Gibson for supremacy at this point. I had both of their albums on cassette. Less than two years later I'd be wearing guy liner and pursuing the goth life!! HA. Such a great nostalgic song, and I'm glad you found the original and not the revamp Tiffany did a few years ago.
The press made out they were battling it out, but both Debbie and Tiffany have stated many times that there was no rivalry whatsoever. They are actually good friends now.
yep, u got it. she was a smaller scale influencer of teenage girls. she had 3 big hits, then kind of faded from the scene, whereas the material girl has kept goin for miles and miles to this day. ah, thanx empress. my girl at the time loved tiffany so much. just like she loved madonna. bless you. go w/ God. peace and love. see ya on the next.
Interesting fact: Tiffany was only 16 when this song hit number one in 1987 😊 and her surname is Darwish for anybody who wants to know, absolutely love her, such an underrated talent! It’s ironic you mention her being an insta influencer cos she’s actually got a very big following on Instagram 😅
Yay! Thank you @Empress. So glad you thought it was a bop. Thought you would but you never know. 🤷♂️🙏🏼 💯 80s cheese based off a 60s song I think but Tiffany brought the vocaaaals like you said. The debut album has many bops and jams. Kid on a Corner, Should’ve Been Me, I saw him standing there. She’s got some grit and soul for a teen. I had her posters on my bedroom walls from the 80s teen magazines. 😂 I think she’s still performing- and was on some celebrity VH1 weight loss show. 😂 Thanks you Rock! ❤️❤️
This song is FIRE. Loved this back in the day. It was Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. You can not really talk about one and not talk about the other. I kinda like Debbie Gibson more. They both stared in the movie Mega Python vs Gatoroid. We’re they spoofed the so called rivalry they had as singers in their characters in the movie. It was so much fun.
I just came from your Debbie Gibson reaction...the way they pitted these ladies against each other 🙄 What's wild is they used to actually play at malls all over. Growing up in the 80s was a different analog dream for sure 🖤
Tiffany is a great singer and deserves more recognition. Tiffany released an amazing album Pieces Of Me in 2018, it has a cool bluesy rockier sound. Check out the singles Worlds Away ua-cam.com/video/EjAV7UL-khE/v-deo.html and Waste Of Time ua-cam.com/video/THEPiydBx-U/v-deo.html. Tiffany will release a new album called Shadows this year, it will have more heavier punk rock sound, she's working with members of LA Guns. Tiffany also released a re-recorded version of her hit song I Think We're Alone Now 2 years ago, check out the video ua-cam.com/video/JmeJ2VsCs-0/v-deo.html.
The press definitely hyped-up Debbie Gibson and Tiffany as rivals, but I remember an interview with Tiffany from back then when she said: "I don't think of [Debbie Gibson] as a rival. I think she's the only other person out there who knows exactly what I'm going through." Meaning, being a young girl working in the cutthroat music industry. I thought it was very moving. And they did indeed become friends later on.
Great song! I was 7 when this came out and I remember loving this song back then and I still think it is great. Debbie Gibson and Tiffany were compared a lot but I never personally liked Debbie Gibson as a kid because she was too "bubblegum" for my taste. Tiffany was too in a way but she seemed to have more "grit" to her style. Anyway great reaction. Thanks for bringing me back in time.
OMG telepathy!! I was thinking influencer just before you said it. It might be the looks (with the 80s back in style), it might be the candid shots… but I think it’s also about Tiffany being a slightly better version of these teenage girls cheering in the mall. Very different from the unattainable stars like Madonna. On the other hand I think she is a prime example of the record industry at their best (or worst depending on how you see it). Take a young talent discovered by producers. Nurture her for a few years. Add a clever marketing plan involving touring malls. Chose the right catchy song. And bam you get yourself a number one single and album. That is very different from the overnight social media successes of today.
It was ALL about THE MALL then. And everybody looked like a Glamour Shot!
I like how your reactions are real. Very genuine. Thumbs up. Don't change.
Wow thank u!
@@EmpressReacts Np girl.
She was 15yrs old here and I absolutely love her mature, raspy voice. I hope you check out her video for “All This Time”.
I still bop to this song. And, yes your birds are bopping too.
Omigod Empress I LOVE tiffany! Like, obsessed!!!

FULL HOUSE - Season 2; episode 7...... Tiffany in concert on tv! Lol WATCH IIIIIIT!!!!!!!
They were watching Live Tiffany in Tokyo!!! Uncle Joey let them stay up late to watch it.

Tiffany was doin Madonna on that can you feel my heart beat part..
This song is a remake of the song from 1967 by Tommy James and the Shondells.
Tiffany was 17 when she put out her first album
Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were 2 pop teens during a time when there were already not too many women and almost no teen girls at all. Both had their own charm and killer vocals 🔥.
💯
Don't forget about Candy And The Backbeat.

VERY underrated vocalist.
Tiffany was the poster child for 80's teenage pop mall cheese, along w/ Debbie Gibson...the Britney & Christina of the late 80's!
Hey Empress this my favourite 80s song Tiffany I think we’re alone now I loved your reaction 😊
thanks!
Tiffany was the OG Mall Queen. She has some vocals too. Tiffany & Debbie Gibson were like Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera, Brandy & Monica.
I was just shy of four when this record dropped and this along with Kylie's Locomotion (Mike Duffy version) were the records as well as accompanying video clips that started a lifelong obsession with music and clips! So awesome to see your reaction to this!!! xxx
Ah. The Mall Princess. Lol.

OMG I remember when her and Debbie Gibson came out! They were definitely more “family friendly” versions of Madonna.

You should check out Martika's Toy Soldiers. It came out around the time this some came out (I think a year later)

Haha. So awesome. I lived the weekend goth life but couldn’t pull off the guyliner and loved her too.

Ooo yus Empress I love your reaction to this song 💖💕 would love to see you react to her song “All This Time”. Always been my favourite track by her :3

Oh cool😂
Tiffany & Debbie Gibson tween pop princesses
I go back and forth between who I like best. But most times I land on tiffany. Her voice amd her slightly edgy style 💗
80s version of britney and xtina rivalry lol

This is a cover, original is
Tommy James and The Shondells
That's how she got discovered, singing at malls
I remember thinking her image was slightly trashy at the time, and Debbie Gibson came off as squeaky clean. They hit around the same time.
Next mall across town you will find Debbie Gibson “Only In My Dreams”
Tiffany was the 80's Brittany Spears.

she re recorded this a couple of years ago
Ok. You gotta get on the Debbie Gibson journey wagon. From pop to broadway, ballads and more.
If you like Tiffany you will LOVE Debbie Gibson !!!
She'll love Debbie's first single, Only In My Dreams. Such a great 80's song!

Yay we're vibin 😎. I get what u mean about her and the girls in the mall.. And wow from what you just said her story is very interesting 🤔
Junior High PTSD!
❤️
This singer isn't a bad person at all BUT - many 80's Mean Girls looked exactly like this
Omg when I saw her with that cheap microphone I thought of grimes. This was the grimes of 87
I remember her other #1 song "Could've Been" as a kid. Much better than this cover song.
You should try the original (I Think We're Alone Now) by Tommy James and the Shondells
