    David quilted my Day in May. I loved it. He did butterflies. Which was crazy because, like you, I told him to choose the pattern and thread. The quilt was a gift for my sister for her birthday, she loves butterflies! How awesome that he chose them.

    Thank you for this video. I have always wondered about bamboo batting. I will be giving it a go now. I also agree with you about the fabric. I have never had a problem with good quality fabrics running. I have used some cheap fabric and it runs like crazy.

    • @TheYvetteRene
      @TheYvetteRene  4 роки тому

      And sometimes if you're looking for something super specific, you can only find it in cheaper fabric (and that really sucks rocks).

    When I was living in the United Kingdom that is all I used. My LQS had it and recommended it. It was what all the ladies used. Then I moved back to the United States and have a really hard time finding it. So I started using 100% cotton. But I would really like to go back to using Bamboo if I can find it.

    Thank you so much, had just realised I needed more batting, watched your video & went on line to Spotlight, Aussie fabric & craft store... They were running a batting sale. Got a bolt of bamboo fabric for half what I normally pay for cotton.. Wow, Hugh saving. So again thanks for the advise

    Last year in May we wen to the Quilt show in Sandy, Utah and a couple ladies there let us hold a quilt that had bamboo batting and it had been washed a few times. I don't remember the brad but it was so soft. I wanted to keep the quilt.

      I'm so happy I finally gave bamboo a go. I wasn't sure and because it was more expensive, I didn't want to try it and hate it. Not the case!

    I only use cotton for placemats, mini quilts, hot pot things. If you are actually going to use it for a quilt on your bed, it is like laying under a slab of concrete and never use it in baby quilts. Much too heavy. Bamboo is great for the properties you described, but my favourite is a poly or poly blend. They don't wrinkle up when washed, hang beautifully on a wall without buckling and don't wrinkle when folded. Warmer than cotton to sleep under, light and comfortable. For a quilt where you want a lot of quilting definition, poly is the best. For cold weather quilts I double, triple and even quadruple the layers to resemble a duvet. They look fantastic on a bed.

    I haven't tried the bamboo batting yet but have thought about it. As for colours running, the only problem I have ever has is with a red. For some reason reds of anything are different. With fabric the red could run, nail polish the red takes a lot longer to day, cake icing red takes longer to set, and all sorts of other things. Whenever I put red on my nails I can do it tin the morning with a good quick dry top coat and still wake up the next morning with the sheet weave imprinted on them. Now I will put one coat on one day then wait till the next day to apply the second coat and it dries like it's the first coat, much better.

      Girl, you have issues with *RED* !!! Red is definitely temperamental. LOL!

    I like the sound of bamboo batting I am going to try it. I have made over a 100 quilts over 12 years and always wash with ordinary detergent in hot water. By the way I have two quilts here at home the rest given as away as gifts. I do not gave a quilt for my own bed so I am currently working on remedying that!!! All the best and just to add- you look fabulous Yvette!

    Your quilt is beautiful. I have yet to make a quilt and keep for myself. They are always gifts. I have three started for me but never finished...one of these days. I recently tried Happy Cloud batting from FQS and loved it. Think they have a bamboo one...will have to check that out.

    Definitely very informative. I’ll have to try bamboo sometime. I know you are super busy but if you ever need another video idea, I’d love to see any Spoonflower fabric you’ve purchased and hear about which you choose. I got the cheapest cotton once and was not thrilled with it. I guess you get what you pay for. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

    Yvette, would you find this batting suitable for a summer quilt in Southern Arizona; is it breathable enough for that use? For some reason I'm thinking I heard you mention you lived in Phoenix at some point, so I thought you may be able to advise. Thanks hon, love your channel xoxo
