  • Episode 64 ~ Protecting Your Knees with Snickers unique Kneeguard system.
Do you kneel down occasionally or do you spend a lot of time working on your knees? Perhaps you kneel and stand up many times a day?
Choose the kneepad that best suits your working situation.
When it comes to knee protection there are a few different factors that come into play. Snickers will help you choose by explaining the way a good knee pad should fit, what kneepads are suitable for the work you do and how different features of the kneepad influence the level of protection.
You can buy your knee protection from: www.snickersworkwear.co.uk

When I see safety videos or about PPE they always make a much better impact when done by somebody who has worked in whatever trade it is. You've convinced me to finally go and buy some knee pads!

I am so glad to hear that and it makes it worthwhile. I know that Health and Safety is a big turn off and we are all fed up with the men in suits telling us how to work. Often it is impossible to meet all their requirements and still get the job done but this one is easy.

Thanks for that Roger! Just like Big Papi I have got osteoarthritis in my knees (retired spark age 68) never used knee pads during 50 years work. Now I need to do some work in my loft I'm going to get Snickers Trousers and pads. They look great. Knees up Mother Brown!

I wear nothing but snickers workwear. It's strong and durable. I've spent heap loads on the gear. But it's well worth it. Although I'm a heating engineer. The Snickers floor layers kneepads serve me well. At £40 a pop they're not cheap. But I'd rather not end up like most oldies in the trade. With gammy knees, that is.

I wouldn't be without my Snickers Floor Layers trousers and pads, expensive, but by far the best trouser and knee pad combo out there, they last ages too, I bought two pairs and they've last over two years so far, they're still in good nik too, plumber by trade so never off my knees.

They look great, however my floorlaying experience tells me the best kneepads out there are Alpro Medical Pads, seriously, just try them

Sound advice Roger. I always wear knee pads it's just common sense, wise old man told me to look after me knees, kneeling down on cold hard floors is not good for them. I got some cheapo one which I stick in my work trousers. They do the job but does mean quite a bit of fiddling to get them on the one itself. Might check them snickers ones out.

this video is now obsolete, lads you need to checkout the ProKnee AP16. I am a flooring installer / sander and i totalled my knees this year with bursitis - crippling pain for months. now i'm back in the game finally and hav invested in the AP16's. yes they cost a bomb in the UK £125 from floormart but literally life changing

Great video. The Snickers workwear is brilliant. I never worn knee protection and now at age 65 I have Osgood/Schlatters and osteo arthritis in both pins. I am often disappointed in UA-cam videos where PPE is not worn or there are downright dangerous activities. The UA-cam "chefs" are the worst offenders. I just watched a guy operating a gas brush trimmer wearing shorts, flip flops, short sleeves, no eye or hearing protection. Unbelievable.

Even the name sound painful Osgood/Schlatters, I had to look it up. How can we get the youngsters to avoid our mistakes? That lad at the end was in a college, they make them wear hi vis and hard hats and gloves but no rule on knee pads.

Dear SB. I would hope the trade union management will take a leadership role in workplace safety peculiar to their particular trade. Second the insurance companies that cover the trade businesses need to be more proactive in promoting safety especially against the type of repetitive work (kneeling for instance) that causes long term debilitating conditions, arthritis, dermatitis etc. it's never too early to teach safety. I don't know of any secondary school curriculum that covers Safety and PPE for those students entering the trades. I like your suggestion that experienced workers approach the younger guys and impress on them the need to work safely. I wish I could go back in time and undo the injuries caused by not considering working safely as opus one.

As a new construction plumber, i don't understand the prevailing thought that tradesman should be doing things in a more harmful manner. All these guy's can take it for a while, but i want full use of my body when im done.

No offense, but this is wrong. Kneepads will protect your kneecaps (so use them), but they do nothing for the actual joints who after a long life of construction will either make it or break it.
And i'm one of the guys who wear my pads as shinguards most of the time, so i know the difference between that pain and pain in the actual joints.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  8 років тому +6

No offence taken. We invite and enjoy debate. I am not a doctor but I have read quite a bit on this subject and also spoken to an osteopath. As I understand it, and I am happy to be corrected, the knee is a delicate and complicated joint. Many doctors say it is one of the worst designed joints in our bodies.
If you load it in the wrong way or overload it, or subject it to impact or stress it will cause damage. That damage may seem temporary but every time it heals it leaves some trace of the old wound and as you grow older that damage comes back to haunt you in a different way.
In your old age you may well develop arthritis or some other degenerative disease and knee pads will not help prevent that but arthritis will attack damaged joints so old wounds are more susceptible.
I did a lot of long distance running when I was young and it never bothered me at the time but now the impact damage I did to my spine from pounding pavements has caused my neck to become inflamed at the slightest pressure.
Talk to anyone who did a contact sport in their youth and they will tell you about an injury that is now causing them grief. Look after your body in your youth (under 50) and it will be more able to cope with the ravages of old age.
