Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan is one of my most favorite 'Sitariya". No other sitar player plays so melodiously,and his unique style has rightfully been celebrated as 'Jaffarkhani Baaz'! What a great player! And then there is Ustad Nizamuddin Khan to accompany him on tabla! He plays tabla like caressing it with peacock's feathers! Thank you for posting this gem on the UA-cam.

A superb rendition of this not so well raag Aarabi ( also known by its counter part raag Pratapvarali in Karnataka sangeet) by Ustad Abdul hailm Jaffer Khan in his typical Jaffer Khani baaz. The tabla accompaniment by Ustad Nizamuddin Khan is excellent. Tabla vadan me itna vajan. mithas aur naad bahut mushkil se sunane milta hai.
Halim Jaffer sab was greatest sitarist. His style was different. I had some collection of his recital on spools which are now outdated. . . This seems to be Raga Durga. How beautifully he has played!
It is advertised as Aarabi. It is very close to Durga but with a weak additional gandhar : Re Ma Ga Re phrase in meend.

Also I heard Ustad Nizamuddin sab live in Sawai Gandharva festival in 1974. That was great experience to listen as well as see him playing.

Amazing performances by both Jaora (Madhya Pradesh) players besides this its very unfortunate to see very low view and comments. If one knows the tabla and sitar both then he/she can easily visualize the application of the art and their embedding they are not like now a days wah ustad those who wants their share on stage to satisfy their egos. Performances are made for the listeners and one should first appreciate the performance first not the baazigari of individuals.
Unbelievably sweet. In his inimitable distinctive style, the Maestro mesmerises with this rare gem. Hearing this raga for the first time. Find traces of Durga in this? Truly this great artist did not get his due (popularity?) but for the true (initiated) music enthusiasts there hardly is an artist who does these great things to your soul.
