I’m 54 I’m a classic rock guy I don’t listen to much new music. I like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, and heavy metal like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, David Bowie Rush, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Frank Zappa, AC⚡️DC, progressive rock, punk rock, new wave, grunge, 80s rock, all sorts of shit, jazz, funk, blues, classical… but my interest in new music more or less ended in the 90s with grunge and like Beck.
But I stumbled across MGMT online a couple years ago and I really dig this band. There is an intelligence and depth to this music that I find kind of rare for current popular music. So maybe it’s the start of opening up to some new music, instead of listening to new music from older bands.
Oh yeah, there is one other band conceived in the 21st century that I like quite a bit in measured doses, at least , and that is the disturbingly hilarious doom/stoner British rock band Electric Wizard. Should you choose to check them out , be warned. They don’t give a fuck what you or anybody else thinks, and make no apologies as they attempt to shock, offend, or freak out just about everyone.

I'm going to describe the feelings of emotion that this sing gives. In a way it makes you feel empty almost as if you are missing something but are unsure, creating a mysterious vibe, yet also giving a sense it anger/vengeance along with a sense that the narrator is wise and trying to tell the listener something. Honestly, I think this song has something to do with regret. Like you've done so much bad and now that you're afraid of dead you're afraid it might be too late for forgiveness
It's never too late as long as you're still alive.
Something I find interesting about this song is that for the most part, the voice in the song is pretty monotone, the voice is very flat until it hits to the chorus. It kinda makes me think of someone suppressing emotions with a poker face and then that poker face finally breaks when the voice starts to go higher/lower when they sing the chorus ("just know that if you hide..." this general part of the song).
I love how one lyric goes from a piece of advice,
"Just know that if you hide, it doesn't go away"
to a statement of acknowledgment and defeat
"I know that if you hide, it doesn't go away"
to another piece of advice, which I find a lot more ominous, as if true happiness can never truly come to the singer,
"You know that if it hides, it doesn't go away"
and back to the statement
"I know that if you hide, it doesn't go away"
Really good stuff here, really portrays the feeling of unease and visceral unhappiness well with its lyrics.
