The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
The Taj Mahal (also "the Taj") is considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles. In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was cited as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage."
While the white domed marble mausoleum is its most familiar component, the Taj Mahal is actually an integrated complex of structures. Building began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, and employed thousands of artisans and craftsmen. The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Lahauri is generally considered to be the principal designer. Among the 20.000 persons who participated in the palace construction there are also many craftsmen and artists from Europe and Central Asia. Among them was also an Italian artist: Geronimo Veroneo, that someone suspect can be one of the possible architects of this monument.
In 1631, Shah Jahan, emperor during the Mughal empire's period of greatest prosperity, was griefstricken when his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died during the birth of their fourteenth child, Gauhara Begum.Construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632, one year after her death. The court chronicles of Shah Jahan's grief illustrate the love story traditionally held as an inspiration for Taj Mahal. The principal mausoleum was completed in 1648 and the surrounding buildings and garden were finished five years later. Emperor Shah Jahan himself described the Taj in these words:
"Should guilty seek asylum here / Like one pardoned, he becomes free from sin. / Should a sinner make his way to this mansion / All his past sins are to be washed away / The sight of this mansion creates sorrowing sighs / And the sun and the moon shed tears from their eyes / In this world this edifice has been made; To display thereby the creator's glory".
The Taj Mahal incorporates and expands on design traditions of Persian architecture and earlier Mughal architecture. While earlier Mughal buildings were primarily constructed of red sandstone, Shah Jahan promoted the use of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones, and buildings under his patronage reached new levels of refinement. The central focus of the complex is the tomb. This large, white marble structure stands on a square plinth and consists of a symmetrical building with an iwan (an arch-shaped doorway) topped by a large dome and finial.

I'd love to go to India, it just seems like such a mysterious, magical and beautiful place
I've been. Trust me. It's not like the pictures. Def won't be going back.
@@broflo3875 Yeah, cuz you probably went to the poor regions that the media tells you to go to, like North Indian cities
@@AARONV2K8 Went to New Delhi and it was fucking horrific. Nobody told me to go anywhere. I specifically chose this place
@@broflo3875 obviously that’s my exact point, you are proving me right. You went to the most polluted city in the world, have some common sense
@@broflo3875 sure you ‘chose the place’ and didn’t coincidentally go to the capital of India… if I want peace, Kerala. If I want vibes, Goa. If I want stunning views, the Himalayas of India. If I feel like riding camels, Rajasthan…. My point is, you foolish tourists pretend that it’s not your own fault for going to the wrong places
Bansuri is the most magical instrument!
If this doesn't stir your soul you haven't found it yet.
I've gone through everything from metal to rap and classical but nothing beats Indian flute's. Ancient Greek is a close second mainly for the enchanting female vocals.
Still a sucker for intoxicating language sung by angels I guess!
Beautiful song. Thanks for the post.
Namaste.
***** I live in Canada...where are you?... 😊
Are you sure it's a bansuri and not a duduk/dudek? Or is it just the lower register of the bansuri?
This music is like a jump starter for my spirit . The body and mind and spirit feels like it just got a message . This music really hits the spot and I’m a Greek American.
Bellissimo. condividendolo con gli amici ho spiegato che pure alzando il volume sento un silenzio sacro e ricco di profumi!!
Grazie e a presto.
Great love story of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.
Fuck Mumtaz shah jamha love story...
He killed all Hindu workers who constructed it... And don't connect our ancient culture, arts, classical music with mughals...

The gems and precious stones are gone..looted. Imagine the beauty of the interior during the day. To imagine it you must watch the movie Mughal E Azam (1960)
It is the PAKHAWAJ the powerful sounding dhol !!! I am so happy i found out the name of my favourite instrument!
Native American music is also really cool also. Aztec, Maya, and Tolteca Natives have great flute music.
Love this one, it calm and relaxing for western people this sounds mysterius, like the sound from paradise. I sometimes feel like I can go all back through the history listening to this :D

They had the best civilization in general. Their music, their science, their religions. All brought peace to the world in their own unique way. The opposite can be said about western civilization.
This is what I would call real music. It is one of the most beautiful song I have ever heard (especially the first song). Old traditional music should be promoted and preserved. It is the result of that one particular culture and represents the feelings, way of life, events and how those people understood life in those times. Nowadays, the american and english music is promoted far too much. The music they make today feels cheap, artificial and sometimes utter rubish, by comparison with this song which feels heavy, sofisticated and full of substance. It is the multitude of cultures that makes our world so wonderful and exciting and that is the way we should keep it. Otherwise, one day in the future, there will be only one culture: anglo-american. Although I do like the anglo-american culture, it should be one of many and not the only culture in the world.
Your words are so beautiful and meaningful!

Such creations give direct experiences with the
soul
I (as many of us are) am a direct descendant of Babur and have always been curious about what it would have been like to be there at the time of its construction in all its glory. As a child I would often dream about it and this is exactly what it looked like. Almost feels like a trick on my senses.
Ben Dover how do u know that ur a direct descendant?
I remember listening to this growing up . Good old days. My friend Akbar and Birbal loved it as well

Everyone should no that this music was not composed in ancient India. This is the style of music used in movies about ancient Arabia. It's probably less than 100 years old.
¡Beautiful music!
i love this drum.. i cant sit in my seat when i hear it .. My feet just want to dance.. the same plays in Hema Malini's dance in Lekin "Jhoote Naina Bole" . what do we call this drum (dhol)??
It's the tabla which you use by sitting on the floor. The dhol is the one you have around your neck used in Punjabi music.
Hamzah Ahmed
No its not the two drum tabla. This is a kind of dhol small on one end and big on the other, played on the floor like tabla. but I dont know its name
Oh! My bad :s Yeah I've seen that being used at Pakistani weddings but don't know it's name either.
It's called pakhawaj/pakhwaj or a variation of it is mrudungam /mridung..........
I wish i lived in ancient India..Everything was beautiful then,,
Specially during Gupta Empire..
this music is great for a belly dancing at medieval fairs we go to in Norman Oklahoma in Muskogee Oklahoma.
