The BEST and MOST authentic version of it I've seen was on the 1970's TV program "David L. Wolper Presents: You Are There"!

FYI...At 4:07 that is NOT a picture of Doc Holliday. That man is John Escapule, directly related to current Tombstone mayor Dusty Escapule. He was a contemporary of Doc in town but they couldn't have been different peoplke!

Don't know how that ever started but it won't go away.

    So-
    A. There was a gunfight. Doc Holliday was involved. He carried a shotgun.
    B. Witnesses fir the hearing that followed, people who actually were there or at least within earshot, testified that a shotgun went off in the early seconds of the battle.
    But-
    C. According to the expert, that's simply not true. Because Wyatt Earp said something different.

Why would a video purporting to tell the real story use a photo of John Escapule in place of Holliday?

Earp was in the Arizona Territory because he was running from a murder charge in Kansas....he was a bartender and card dealer.....the western mythology makes many of the bad guys into heroes

as a rule the report's most closely to the actual time of an events
are the most accurate I always get a bit skeptical when after all the eye witness have died someone comes along and retells and re-writes the story 🙃🙄

So far you’re talk thru your hat . Most of this is common knowledge. You guys act like you’re the only ones that know everything by producing this miss leading information.I knew all about history and Hollywood when I was ten years old.

It took me months to find out it was Wyatt who along with Billy fired the first shot. I talked to a woman who's father loves watching Tombstone and I told her I have researched the "Gunfight At the OK Corral". She asked me, "What's that?".

  • @wsearp

The only thing Wyatt embellished is who fired the first shoots, that was Morgan and Doc who were determined to rid themselves of the cowboys....

It was a streetfighter. It started in the vacant lot, but spilled out into the street.

Hollywood does liven real events up and stretch the truth a bit and sometimes a lot but if they didn't a significant amount of the movie audience would probably fall asleep watching what really happened or maybe not even show up.

Daven i worked in Hollywood film studios
Hollywood make dreams come to life the Wild West was a 80% fiction and the rest what people thought they saw ,,,,,news papers of the time printed what would sell their paper ,,,,,,Tombstone was tow cities in one ,,, respectable Republican half,,,,,
and the rip-roarin saloon brothel music halls of the Democrats other half

    • @robertsmith-oh9mo

This is true about almost all movies that "portray" historical events in history. Mainly the Quote, "wild west" and "WWII". As you say, if Hollywood made a truley factual movie about ether of these two eras, people would fall asleep or not come to see it. A prime example is the movie The Battle of Britten made in 1968. A very historically accurate movie in every way, including searching the world for the correct aircraft. It was a flop at the theaters. The critics gave it very bad reviews. They said that the movie had no real plot. The plot was Briten fighting for it's life as it were. Again, just like anything connected to the gunfight in the alley next to the OK corral the truth doesn't sell' it's too boring.

"Wyatt Earp" comes very, very close to the actual gunfight. The empty lot is better. The movement toward the street is better. The action of Ike is better in "Tombstone" and also the death of Frank McLaury. What is sort of humorous is the play put on by the Tombstone players. That is a horrible interpretation.

Yep. He walked the walk. He didn't need to talk the talk because his deeds did all the talking that was needed. A soft-spoken and a generally peaceful man who rose to the occasion when it was necessary as so many before him had done (e.g., Alvin York). The kind of man that I hope to God are still out there and ready to step up to the plate when needed.
