  • The Danis stent was originally designed for emergency use in refractory oesophageal variceal bleeding. Recently, in March 2022, the Danis stent received NICE approval for use in refractory variceal bleeding in patients being considered for definitive treatment and also in the palliative setting. Furthermore, cost modelling showed that the Danis stent is cost saving compared to balloon tamponade in patients being considered for definitive treatment because of a shorter ITU stay.
This video gives background information on the Danis stent followed by a demonstration of the insertion of the stent using the “Daniella” model. The demonstration comes from the Endoscopy Village at the BSG meeting held in Birmingham, UK in June 2022. I am indebted to Richard Fearn, Product and Business Development Manager at It’s Interventional for help with the demonstration.
If you want to jump straight to the demonstration, it starts at 06:52. This video has an audio track.

Hi. The guide wire should be removed at the end with the whole device (after deployment of stent).
