Vivaldi undoubtedly gave it its finest finery, offering with his series of concertos an exhaustive picture of the technical possibilities of the instrument and the charm of its suggestive sonorities, evocative of strange, even orientalizing climates. If he inscribes them in the usual tripartite form, the composer creates completely new harmonies with these pieces. Often bewitching, considering the extension towards the low register, especially in the slow movements, allowing an effusion close to the human voice. Thank you so much for sharing this treasure trove of music, so lyrical , so beautiful that it takes one's breath away. Very good quality recording too, crisp without sounding harsh. A real discovery this, that the neglected viola d'amore of the present was held in such esteem that it merited such beautiful musical compositions.
My wife and I stood at that exact location on our honeymoon! Pretty cool. We also went to a Vivaldi concert where they dressed up in classical attire. I told her we need to make an anniversary trip sometime down the road.
True delightful purely Baroque Music. This Music can only be heard in Heaven !!!
Einfach wundervoll!

Comparing this fine effort to other recordings reminds me of the stark difference between the first L'incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi) I heard; I was engaged to sing a couple of small roles or a BBC Wales video recording and the musicians were led by Rinaldo Alessandrini and a small group of his players, filled out with some from Welsh national Opera. It was strong, muscular, and very rhythmical; it had a very strongly dancey feel and he made all the rhythmic changes very clear. Then some years later; it was in 2000 at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, I heard my second Poppea, conducted by Marc Minkowski; it was mostly very soft and had easy, light limpid lines. The difference couldn't have been more stark! (I'm not saying one as better than the other!!) This recording, made in 1974, has that softness to it, whereas the recording I knew before, with Rachel Barton Pine and the Ars Antigua has a more "modern" way with Vivaldi; more muscular, rhythmical. Also, the tuning here is higher; differently strung instruments, perhaps? Thank you for posting this!
At 28:08 is the largo movement from Vivaldi‘s D Minor Viola Cpncerto RV 394 (PV 288) which IMO is one of the most beautiful baroque pieces I have yet to hear. Considering how many classical pieces are featured in movies it is surprising to me that this 4+gem seems yet to have found its way into part of a film soundtrack. Actually I love all 6(?) of Vivaldi‘s Viola Concertos & as this is my favorite Baroque string instrument, I would love to know if there are more of these Viola Concertos that I am not aware of. In the works of composers from Bach to Vovaldi I am especially partial to these largo movements.
See RV 540 Concerto for Viola d'amore and Lute in D minor, RV 97 Chamber Concerto in F major (with viola d'amore), RV 644 Juditha Triumphans (Viola d'amore solo in "Quanto magis generosa", masterpiece)

Vivaldi y Venecia, ambos un sueño suspendido entre el cielo y el mar
Could't agree more!
Nonstop beauty
Sempre mi a piaciuto Vivaldi..... è geniale.
A brilliant performance that was ahead of its time, illustating Pound's remark that the only synonym for music is "Venice"
