    Simon, congratulations-you did it again!!! Without these specific step by step videos many players including myself can only reach a certain level, get frustrated, and either give up tennis all together or reach a plateau. Thank you for showing all of us these "tricks" and tips!! It makes tennis exciting learning on how to address specific and unique problems. By the way, it is extremely impressive to see you hit a one-handed backhand with either arm!

      The toughest thing for me in tennis is getting a good consistent kick serve. It's just always been a challenge. I've watched your video on it, and I'm working on it, but it still needs some work. I think part of the issue is that I'm getting up in age and I don't quite have the flexibility I used to have.

    Hi coach Simon. Your videos are just...amazing. Such a good explanation. I am not sure but I have the feeling there are like two "schools" when it comes to pronation. I personally totally agree with you: I get much more topspin when I do so. But I hear other coaches saying that the wrist shouldn't move, that the low the high swing is enough and will automatically create the topspin as a result. I personally believe the the "windshield wiper" technique. This is what works best. Now maybe these coaches do not realise that do it a bit as well without even noticing. Anyways..Great video. I will watch more of your videos right away :) Thanks!

    Question about the turnong of the palm for heavier topspin. In the slow motion shown from the pros, it looks like the turning of the palm is happening way after the contact (ball has left) the racquet. And the brushing up on the ball, their palm is still facing down. So when should the turning of the palm start is it before contact?

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 роки тому +2

      The timing of the palm opening up will depend on many factors. But when going for heavy topspin, try to release it just after contact

      I think it's easier for the WTA players to get power with a two-hander, which is the reason we don't see more female players using the one-handed backhand, however Justine Henin and Amelie Mauresmo both had exceptional one handed backhands, so it is possible.

    Well explained - Which raquets, do you think, could you recommend for single handed backhand players,
    and which not? and why?
    I have never found a post about that topic on U-Tube!
    Or do you think it doesn't depend on the raquet choice?
    I watch of lot of one handed Pros with a Wilson (Federer, Dimitrov, Tsitsipas) and some years ago some
    Spanish Players with a Dunlop raquet.
    I have the Pure Aero 2020, good for my one handed backhand. I can generate lots of power, spin and angles.
    But sometimes, when I receive a short ball and I am not totally focused, the ball gets out too steep.

  • @lancelotlink6545
    @lancelotlink6545 3 роки тому +2

    I'm curious your thoughts on the non-dominant hands role. Lately I've been using it to a greater extent by pushing the racquet at the beginning of the swing all the way till the hand reaches the hip to get racquet speed instead of letting it "drop". Do other players do this?

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial

      For me overall Wawrinka is the goat and Federer in 2017 only with the most aggressive backhand of all times when he has totally exposed Nadal and had he played backhand like in 2017 he would not have lost a match to Rafa. Shame he decided not to play RG 17 as the only thing RF has missed in his career is defeating Rafa at RG.

    Thank you, Coach Simon. Occasionally, I am so focused on creating topspin on the backhand, that even though it has high RPMs, my ball lands around the service line, too short. How could I correct this, to get more depth on my heavy topspin backhand? Also, when supinating my forearm, I shank many balls. Do I just need more repetitions to time it better? Thank you!

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Mark
      Focus more on lifting the ball. More height over the net will help you hit deeper shots when going for heavy topspin.
      The more topspin we apply, the quicker the ball dips down so to counter that, we need a higher trajectory.
      Also, focus on the supination after the contact zone, if you do it too early, you’ll likely shank it.
      All the best
      Simon

    Good lesson, you only missed a few details.
    1. Chin on shoulder as ball approaches, so you can pull on the handle. Bent elbow ok.
    2. Pull on the handle, butt first, saving the outward snap as long as possible.
    3. On the follow through, push through the shot with the tip of your thumb. Don't finish with the racket square to your wrist, or you'll have a rally backhand like Tsitsipas. Stan does the thumb point best. That's why he can mash cross court winners better than others.

    You gave away the secrets but execution is the challenge. Always taking it to a new level while still able to slow play the ball. Tennis is a game of chess. The techniques are the fundamentals. Roger Federer had a great forehand but a weak serve and a good backhand. Federer knew the chess of tennis better than all of his opponents. I am not a Federer fan, but his style teaches more about the game than sampras, nadal, or novak. Novak and
    Nadal have emotional problems. Federer has acquired some emotional problems recently. The triumvirate is ending. Sampras used sheer power to overwhelm but very limited thoughtful play. I doubt that he could have beaten Federer when both were at their primes. Watch Federer attack the Nadal’s backhand at the Australian in 2017. By analyzing that match you learn more about tactics which I find is lacking in so many players who think tennis is serve and volley or baseline play. It is controlled positioning until the situation gives a real advantage then to make the play. Rocket serves unless they are aces are very easy to return aggressively so you better have great control if you want a flame thrower. Good tennis play reminds me of a cat on the hunt. Hope my words contributed something. Wish I had a good coach when I was young, but now with one eye I can still hit better than most players and that is challenging. No matter. Enjoy your time on the court. Tennis is the best sport!
