Just want to put it out there, I once read somewhere that when you're sorted into a Hogwarts House, you are sorted based on the traits that you VALUE and would like to work towards, not necessarily the traits that you actually have right now. For me, the same applies here. I am not a particularly calm, serene type of person, I can be chaotic at times but I do love the Water (I like that name better) style root as it speaks to my higher self - who I want to be, what I want to embody and the life that I would like for myself :)
this is a great explainer as to why my boyfriend & I (accidentally) dress the same multiple times - we have similar style roots! We’re both quite mushroom-like & on formal occassions we lean towards mountain style root. The only difference is that his 3rd root could very well be stone & mine is totally moon 🤣
Personally I think it's okay to not have named a style root Water since water can have such a different vibe depending on what state it's in, the location and the weather. My first association with water is for example the sea, beachy, surfer, more earthy vibes, or a creek in the mountain, that'll give more of a mountain backpacker style. Or the sea in a storm would give more of a dark, powerful vibe. So I think mushroom fits better for what you're going for.
Agree with this completely, when I think of Water I think of crashing waves, a waterfall, or a placid lake in the middle of a forest. All with a very different vibe than the classic/Nantucket feel of Mushroom.
I recently made a couple discoveries in my style roots journey! 1) Conflating Essence with Roots - For a long time I thought my roots were 🔥⛰️🍄 but I realize now that they’re actually 🔥⛰️🪨! While I do love 🍄 I realized that to some degree I was conflating it with my Classic Essence, or subconsciously putting myself into the box of the Classic Essence. I still do love it and resonate with it to an extent (minimalism, timelessness, lightness), just not as a core root! 2) Distinguishing Foundational vs Undertone Roots - After a lot of processing I found that my *foundational* roots are definitely 🔥⛰️🪨 but sometimes I also draw from *undertones* of 🌙, 🌎, ☀️, or 🍄 depending on the fit! (My core look is definitely based on foundational roots but sometimes I lean into other aesthetics I love like vintage influences in the 70s, 90s grunge, 90s airport model aesthetic, and Mediterranean influences) Experimenting with style roots this way gave me so much clarity, alignment and authentic expansion with my style! Thanks Ellie-Jean :)
Water being within mushroom style root makes so much sense to me now, plus thematically considering high moisture is associated with mushrooms/fungi! 🤯 I think I still prefer mushroom as the name but maybe that's my moon root talking :p
I also prefer mushroom as the name. I feel like it captures the small, round, minimal style of mushroom very well. While water has something majestic and powerful to me, which I don't associate with mushroom.
I've commented before but I love this system so much because it lets me be analytical about my style while also giving me so much freedom. I love my style roots (moon x flower x stone), and I feel like they represent me as a person in every aspect
I might make my own "Star" root board 😂 I love Ethereal but I passed on Flower because it's so heavily Ingenue and I look ridiculous in most anything Ingenue. I do love the flowy elements, large lace, florals, angelic. I went with Moon, but it does feel a little too heavy and gritty. I love the metallic aspect of it, the lace and sheer, some leather - but that could be coming from Mountain. I love the celestial aspects.
Your Pinterest board with the combinations really helped me defining my style roots. I know the basis is always Mushroom x Mountain, but then it varies, the 3rd one always varies on the occasion, mostly moon. But it can be Stone for a more casual look, or fire/flower depending on the mood. 😅
It’s earth, mushroom and flower for me ❤ this system works so well. It’s really helped me create my own thing instead of jumping around different aesthetics. I am also drawn to mountain and moon on Pinterest and instagram, but i don’t think they work well for me in reality. - gingham is a current fave. And it’s interesting that we dress fairly different to one another with the same roots as we express them through our own lenses ❤
Same. I think I use ot differently but I loved her video with the 3 different influencers and they all had the same roots. Watch that one of you can. Im more Herbalist gardener myself.
I am waiting for more of those short videos on the combinations of roots! I think mine are Earth, Moon and Mushroom. I am a soft classic body type with ethereal essence so I want to wear really whimsical things and it took me a long time to realize that my classic influence makes it better for me to pull everything back and simplify, which is why I connect with the mushroom root. And I don't consider flower as one of mine even though I'm very fairycore... I'm more of the inverse of the moon for SURE. 💚✨
Your style root system is really so fun and beginner friendly 🙏 I really hope it spreads far and wide and you make way more content about it because it makes dressing myself feel easier and more fun instead of boring or stressful 😅 I don't have much of a knack for fashion and I hate clothes shopping so I've always just grabbed the quickest easiest thing in the store but now I want to dress in a way that actually represents me as a person and makes me feel more confident in my clothes- but I had no idea how to do that lol. Kibbe and essences are cool but they can sort of take away from the fun, style roots have really made it a lot more fun to keep going forward in my evolving style journey 😁🙏
I had a similar experience, not liking to shop because I didn't realize that the styles I was wearing didn't match the styles I liked! Ellie Jean's system is so easy and helped me start enjoying clothes shopping!
Thinking of mushroom as water makes so much sense especially since the elements I like from mushroom were those nautical styles. I find fire and flower to be the style roots I flip between ( mushroom and stone are set for me) as it gets colder I am more in-tune with fire and as it gets warmer I am more flower! I also believe I am a romantic body type so I often channel fire naturally and try to lean more cutesy with flower in certain settings I love this system so much it has helped me immensely with my personal style
Mine are Flower, Mushroom, and a tiny bit of Earth. A few months ago I experimented with moving from dark colors like navy and black to lots of white, cream, and pinks and it completely changed the way I look at my style! I feel like I’m getting closer to my outside reflecting my inside :)
AHH uncovering the lore that Mushroom is also the Water style root is SO satisfying! Mushroom is the root I'm most locked in on and I'm a double Pisces, always lived by the water, former professional sailor, mermaid-obsessed child kinda girlie so I FEEEEL this!! I find the Pinterest boards so helpful for understanding how the roots work in tandem so thank you again for all the work you put in to them! I totally relate to trying to sift out which roots are the REAL you, I'm sure about Mushroom and Sun (mostly because as a Kibbe Dramatic and a Bright Winter they just naturally come out in my harmonious lines and palette) but for the third the question is always "do I have Stone or do I just always dress casually and comfortably because of my neurodivergence (sensory issues against tight/uncomfy clothes, constantly being in a rush making me put in less effort, etc)?" "Do I have Mountain or do I just think it aligns with Dramatic lines and have a millennial bias towards officewear?" "Do I have Fire or does the media just have me wishing to be perceived in a more stereotypically sensual way that doesn't actually honour my true essence and self?" Right now I'm happy to be working in a Mushroom x Sun x Mountain paradigm while looking to some Stone and Fire influence if I'm in the mood to experiment. I think identifying the roots that I really DON'T vibe with (Flower - frills and pastels, heck no! Earth - earth toned palettes are an immediate ick for me! Moon - I cosplayed with this throughout my youth and 20s but the Sun makes me so much happier!) was also super helpful. Self-discovery is a journey, and especially as someone already certain of my Image ID and colour season I'm happy to keep playing with my Roots for now. It's a great system and you should be very proud Ellie-Jean, excited to see more of your own personal progression too! (P.S. congrats again on your natural hair journey, it's SUCH a great decision on your part! :D)
The Pinterest boards really helped me, as a visual person. I am mountain-flower-earth (classic preppy girly). Also, though: I feel like water helps me understand the concept of that root SO much better than mushroom does...so I'm a vote for renaming it, even though it's not at all my root.
Hi there Ellie! I discovered your channel very recently, and it's sent me down a deep rabbit hole of analysing my Kitchener essence, Kibbe body type, colour season and style roots. I feel like the content you're sharing is not only helpful to me as a person, but also with some character designs I'm working on. Looking forward to seeing more from you!
i appreciate your style roots system a lot! my primary roots are moon, stone, and earth, though i can see flower as a possible secondary root for me. one of the funny things (for myself) is that your introduction to style roots (when you first came out with it) really helped to explain why i liked certain BTS (Korean boyband) members' "core" styles (as presented by another UA-camr, Nava Rose), and her video helped me to confirm for myself what my style roots are based on the "core" styles that resonated with me (it was also fun to review her video in light of your style roots, because i could see them in the boys' "core" styles", some more clearly than others, and it was just kinda fun to see). i think you've done such a great job with your system! thank you so much!
I am so grateful you took so much time making combo boards on Pinterest. I think I figured it out for myself because of them. I always have 🌸 and 🌿 but the third element changes depending on the season. In spring/summer, mushroom/water. In fall/winter, moon. The moon element is a big part of my personality but I don’t love wearing dark colors in warmer sunny seasons, but in the cold seasons I love to bring that side out to play! I wonder if anyone else does something similar? So fun!
It's totally not too late to shift Mushroom to Water! What I love about your style roots is that they are organic and evolving, so it makes a lot of sense for you to bring additional clarity to your system. Professors get to change the syllabus. ;) Plus, I love the imagery of the fluidity of water, how it shifts and changes but still connects and nourishes everything. Thanks for creating the roots! It has really helped me to bring together other style systems in a way that makes sense for me - seasonal colors, body IDs, essences, etc.
I think the traits of Flower don’t really vibe with Ethereal tho. Where Flower is Sweet, Ethereal is Aloof. Ethereal isn’t really quaint or charming. Flower has this youthful, vibrancy where Ethereal is old/ancient and otherworldly. A Star root totally makes sense!
@Keapix when I think about verified Ethereal celebs that dont have Ingenue, i also cant picture Flower working. Like can I really see Tilda Swinton in sweet, dainty dress?
Omg you should totally change it to water. I have always been confused between mountain and mushroom, the words and the aesthetic are way too close together and it took me digging through your Pinterest and you calling mushroom "old money" to understand the difference. Mushroom fits the aesthetic but within the system water and it's coastal grandmother/old money "what I'm wearing to the amalfi coast" vibes really just fits better.
Mountain is formal and commanding in my head and mushroom is minimal. Weirdly I like mushroom better than water because there's something too "changing" about water that doesn't speak to that stillness to me. 🤷
I definitely understand Water much better than I ever did Mushroom. It's always been a confusing one to me and the emoji doesn't make it clearer (it evokes cottagecore to me)
The use of personality words and interests really help when narrowing down roots. I'm trying to rebuild my wardrobe after having a baby so focusing on those rather than what I already own/ previous ideas about my style etc makes it feel more authentic. I think I'm flower, Earth and moon.
I keep waiting for your analysis of Penelope's glow up from Bridgerton. It's such a great example of how curvy romantics don't have to lose weight to experience a glow up!
She has always looked good but oh my GOD she is just breathtaking this season. Her hair, the colors of her gowns, the makeup! I was literally saying “ohhh beautiful girl!!” every time she was on screen, I couldn’t help it 😅
Your videos came up in my feed and I have been HOOKED! I am definitely a Sun, Moon, and Mountain in that order. Keep up the amazing content your amazing!
I’ve come back to rewatch this because I was certain when I first watched it I was sure I was 🌸🔥 but wasn’t sure about the 3rd. Can confirm now it’s 🍄. The Pinterest boards were insanely helpful in this process. This is such an approachable yet comprehensive system. So many people over think style and over theorize it too. But this is IT! No surprise my favorite emoji was already 🌸 thank you!
I'm not sure I really relate to this system, but I do think it's helped me pinpoint what elements in my wardrobe are *not* working for me in a way I didn't grasp so easily before I watched the video, so thanks for that!!
Love this concept! I know I'm fire and sun, but the third one seems to change with the season and my mood. I think it flips between stone and mountain.
Fire and mountain are definitely my top 2. Moon or Flower is my third depending on mood I feel with some Mushroom mixed in. Essentially none of the rest.
I used to be so confused about my most dominant style root until you mentioned the water aspect! I never liked the mushroom and polkadot association, it was too specific for me… but the imagery you used beyond that, the still beaches, the sand… that holds significant meaning for me. So your explanation really helped me see that my first style root is actually water (mushroom)
Moon/Star 🌙 ✨ Stone 🪨 Fire 🔥. This was the most perfect explanation and now I’m so sure of my roots. The Moon/Star makes so much sense, balancing the edgy/intimidating/protective style with revealing/bright/shiny energy. Beautiful 🤩
I really like this concept, and in terms of the 80/20 rule, I’m 80% mountain and mushroom. But I have fire and moon influences that make up the 20%. My style words are classic, relaxed, and chic. Thank you for this!
I've been keeping up with your Style Roots pinterest boards to help me settle on my roots! I'm looking forward to you posting more flower x mushroom boards. I'm pretty certain I am flower x mushroom but I am still trying to settle on my third root.
I love your theory and I've found it so helpful (and fun) when I'm looking at clothing. I think it means I buy a lot more purposefully and have fewer times where I buy something I never wear.
I just want to say i love this method and thank you so much for all the Pinterest boards! Its a lot of fun and very helpful. I have basically figured out that my main roots are sun and flower, and I like most combinations with those two plus another root. It depends on season too. I like earth and mushroom but I think a lot of the time my third root is closer to stone because its just more practical and comfortable, even though it isn't my 'ideal'. especially in winter i think it's harder to dress in skirts and blouses and dresses (that I associate more with flower and the parts of earth I like)
Fantastic video, thank you Ellie-Jean! My style roots are fire, flower and mushroom. Fire and mushroom tend to dictate the silhouettes I like with flower ruling details and patterns. Fire inspires the colours I choose (I am a jewel winter) and flower guides me on scale to suit me (smaller scale patterns and jewellery). I do think there is a fourth style root that sometimes can be incorporated, I like to include moon sometimes! It's all so interesting! Love your videos, it's very inspiring to see how well you are doing and at such a young age. ❤❤
This system is so useful for gift shopping. One friend of mine seems to be earth, moon, and fire, so I gifted her a denim flower choker. Another friend is moon, stone, and mushroom, so I gifted her a wallet with those characteristics. They loved their gifts ❤👍
I have a very dominant Mushroom style root, and I like that word better than Water to describe it, although it could be different for someone else. I think we can all interpret the same style root slightly different. For instance, Glamorous is one of my style words, but it comes out in more of a Mountain way for me than Fire
I would love to see you take a trending aesthetic (mermaid core, angel, core mob wife, etc) and see how the interpretation of each of the style roots could potentially make that aesthetic work for them.
Love your system Ellie! I think what suits me best is mountain, earth & flower but I also like mushroom so still deciding to choose the final 3. Love your Pinterest boards very much! ❤❤❤❤
I really love this system! Even more than the aesthetic or garments, I find the feeling words associated with each style root to be most helpful for me when identifying my own style. My style roots are 🍄🪴 & 🏔️or🪨 depending… I’d like to channel more Mountain but my life contexts make practicality in clothing soo necessary that it’s hard to fully lean into the polished professional looks unless I’m dressing up.
what style root would you say encompasses "vintage"? Flower? Bc I love the fantasy and escapism as well as the art n history of it. I love capes and corsets and regency ball gowns and pocket watches :)
This was really helpful. I have myself down as mushroom, mountain and sun. The words for me are relaxed and classic style with an element of drama. I like a nice serious suit with a vintage detail like a brooch or necklace, or an oversized silk scarf. I also prefer stripes and geometric patterns to whimsical ones, I look stupid when trying something too girly or sweet, and I look desperate in "too sexy" outfits, or when I'm in an all black outfit. It's funny how some people can pull something off so effortlessly and some don't. I have friends that look like goddesses in leggings and a hoodie, I look like I'm homeless. But then I look great in a suit, and other friends look like they're playing dress up if they turn up in one!
Your channel is so helpful Ellie! I do have a fashion question. I love sundresses, however, I can never find one that looks good in me and fits my style. I’m a soft dramatic body type and my style root are mushroom, fire, and sun. What sundress would you recommend?
I don't really like any of these on their own, but going through the Pinterest boards of the mixed style roots I find I love a few combinations that include moon and flower. Specifically fire or earth but also stone.
I’m still torn between them. Every time I think I’ve narrowed it down I think oh what about this one! Or that one! I appreciate you mentioning how you associate water with the mushroom style root. That explains why I’m drawn to it 🌧️🌊
Once you mentioned "water" as kind if an alternate name for "mushroom" it made so much sense to me lol, now I kinda get it haha I think is not too late to change it !
I have had so many different styles growing up. I have been a girly girl, then black metal/goth styles, emo, J-rock, J-rock/hippie blend, tomboy, kpop/Street style, and so on... So mostly moon/sun/stone mix I would say. Now I'm 31 and my style roots are mostly flower and earth, but the third is tricky. I think I lean fire. But I do wear a bit of stone as well, but that's because it's practical, not necessarily because I like the style... I wear most styles I would say, but it's difficult to blend them properly without them looking unrelated.
To me my core roots are always Flower 🌺 and 🍄 (water if you prefer haha) and then I lean into a 3rd,undertone root like 🌙 or 🌎, sometimes even 🔥 or ☀️. It's usually moon or earth tho
I always thought of earth as hippie (sunny, bright clothes) which I’m drawn to but I’m much more moon as a goth (personal style and subculture “member”). I really felt intrigued that despite dressing in almost only black (my other colors are deep red, deep green and deep purple) , earthy bohemian styles still show up in how I wear my personal gothic look. Flowy long skirts, ponchos and flowy tops or lace kaftans, layered looks that flow together and lots of stacked jewelry that reflect my style or a vintage vibe, like Victorian. So I’m pretty sure my roots are moon first then earth then fire????
I have a bit of a problem finding my third or tertiary style root... I am absolutely sure about flower and earth, those are the main ones. But for the third one, I alternate between moon, fire, and sun. Your Pinterest boards have been super helpful, I think that maybe sun is the one, but I love the looks of th other two and my wardrobe has some pieces that fit them and that I love... 😅 Thanks as always for your work! ❤
I'm distinctly settled on moon and mountain as two of my roots, but sincerely stuck between flower and stone as my 3rd/accent root. It seems to switch up depending on the day or the outfit, and I don't see either element changing particularly soon. All of my outfits I can think of exist with only one of those two roots. Does anyone else feel the same way or have any advice? I feel like I already have a fairly distinct "brand" of style, but does that remain true with gravitating towards four style roots?
I also feel like I have two dominant roots( Mushroom and Mountain) with two modifiers(Stone and Earth) that I switch between, rather than having 3 dominant ones.
To anyone who's still undecided: I strongly suggest looking at the pinterest boards. My style roots are mushroom, flower and moon. I was initially undecided between flower and earth, because I really like cottagecore and '70s styles, but once I went to look at the examples of mushroom x earth x moon, I realised they didn't really reflect my taste, while I loved the mushroom x flower x moon outfits. However, question for Ellie: what if we do like some very specific aspects of a fourth style root (such as cottagecore and '70s syles), should we still occasionaly incorporate those into our style or do you suggest focusing on our three main style roots?
Through my fashion style, I realized that my main style roots are Flower, Mushroom, and Mountain. These days, I think that Mushroom and Mountain are interchangeable in terms of importance, but Flower is my main style root. With my fourth style root, it's either Fire or Stone.
I'm curious to know what 3 style roots Florence Welch and Lou Doillon might have? Maybe something with Moon and Earth, but what would be their third one? 🤔 Any ideas?
Any other 🍄🪨🌎 here? 😄 I tend to lean strongly into stone when I’m dressing casual - I wear outfits like my husband’s oversized T-shirts tucked into my tight little denim shorts with sneakers, oversized hoodies with raw-hem skinny jeans, stretchy flowy jumpsuits, etc. I love going full mushroom when I dress up - A-line skirts and blouses, Corduroy trousers and turtlenecks, belted neutral-colored sundresses, and 1950s/old money (think old Hollywood actresses in their “casual outfits”). Both my stone and mushroom styles have an influence of earth, though! Jewelry made of polished rocks, jewelry with animals/insect designs, animal prints, fibrous textured fabrics, etc. I love your style system, Ellie-Jean! It has helped me formulate a wardrobe and mix and mash outfits from it in a much more cohesive way than Kibbe essences or body shapes alone!
Perhaps it's too complicated, but is there a connection between kibbe-styles and your style-system? I see this between sun and dramatic, between flower and romantic...Could be interesting for those, who struggle with finding their styles.
Hm I think I’m a flower, earth and moon person. I think for me, the moon is not stereotypical like I’m not into witches, the moon, magic (per se), all things goth, etc. But I am highly sensitive, deep and mysterious or changing. I am a highly philosophical and theological person and I love fantasy worlds and stories that capture the epic struggle between dark and light and I see everyday life as a real place this occurs too. I have and continue to seek merch from bands and artists I love who capture deep human emotion and experiences and I like going about in environments where I’m one of the only people wearing those things they are special to me and if someone asks about it, I see it as a chance to have a deep conversation. Maybe that sounds really pretentious, but it’s just part of me being an individualist.
I am mushroom and flower for sure, but I don’t know the third one. I am a bright winter on color analysis , does that make my third style root sun ? I think I am between mountain, fire and sun
I've been thinking lately what would be your thoughts on the roots changing depending on the season. For me, I think my roots are very 🌛🔥🗻, but in spring/summer I feel a lot more 🌻 than 🗻. This makes sense to me, because the formality of mountain I relate to the school year while summer is fun and flowery itself. But then I think that roots are supposed to end with these seasonal changes of style - and yet, wouldn't want to be that flowery in winter, nor that formal in summer. Does that make sense?
Hello :) I (re)discovered you through your "interviews" with Rita and Gabrielle. Your style system seems interesting and I am looking forward to fall into this rabbit hole and see if it works for me. According to my understanding of it I would be Flower, Earth and Water. Do you lan on covering all the style roots n future videos? And how to combine them ? Or analyzing celebrities and characters fashion style through your system? That would be great!
I am pretty sure my two main style roots are Mushroom (and I still like that name xx) and Flower, but I live in a landlock where it can get quite cold and I’m a dark season so I tend to wear darker colours so I always end up with loads of Mountain looking pieces 😂
Love your style root system so much! I strongly identify with moon & earth, still trying to figure out my third root, as I tend to dip into a few different ones for “flavour” 😄
Hi Ellie Jean! I love your channel! I have a strong flower root but I'm looking for inspiration suitable for an older woman. I don't want to look like I am dressing too young. Thank you!
Yeah that ingenue bit with flower did throw me off because I love the delicateness, lightness and semi modestness but more in the ethereal, mature or bordering on mushroomy type of way. Whereas I used to think you had to have big bows, princess sleeves, tiny prints, things that just did not suit me and that fire was the "grown up" side but too dark, shiny and racy to be my top one. I felt homeless until I found out about ethereal. So far I've settled on flower, earth and fire but mushroom might come into play one day. I really resonate with green and natural fabrics in earth though.
My roots are ! : 🔥 🌸 ☀️ in that order 😊. I love womanly, luxurious, beautiful 🔥, sweet , cute , adorable 🌸, and I love a pop of something creative ☀️! I knew that fire 🔥 and flower 🌸 were two of my roots , but it took some thinking to realize what my third root was . I figured it out when I tried to wear something simple, and it just didn’t look like me .. I feel much more like my creative self when I include some sunshine ☀️!! God is so good , and He made us so unique and beautiful ❤❤❤❤ ! Thank you God !
I don’t agree with lumping Ethereal into the flower category. They are really quite different aside from color schemes. And frankly aaall the esthetic suggestions on the Pinterest boards are straight up Ingenue “cute”. Not elegant nor wise. Personally I use Moon as my Ethereal element, as in literal luminosity of the moon. It translates SO much better than flower as Ethereal essence. This video does confirm some things for me however. Namely that I’m not and never will be only 3 roots/essences!
OKAY, after MUCH deliberation, and also thanks to this new video, I've found that I have two main ones: ☀️ and 🪨! Those are my main one that feel 100% like me. As for the third one, I think it depends on my mood and where I'm going. It can be 🔥, 🍄, 🌙 or even 🌸.
I definitely have elements of Flower and Moon in my warddrobe, but a lot of my day to day style is t-shirt, jeans, and sweatshirts. It's not athletic, just very casual - often oversized and baggy with the outerwear. Is this a stone root? It doesn't seem quite right to me but it's the closest fit I see.
I can't narrow it dow to only three style roots, ive been on this journey for almost two years and ive started to truly discover myself, not who I was used to pretending to be, but I still can't get to three only. I have four - flower, fire, earth and moon. From the combination boards i understood that the lack of flower is not acceptable to me, so I looked at the rest but still couldn't figure it out. Felt like sharing my story.
I’m definitely Stone, Earth and Mushroom because it looks the best on me but it feels so boring😮💨 I wish I had moon and fire in my style but it honestly never looks good because my impression on others is very serious yet sweet, not so passionate and edgy, but that’s how I feel on the inside
I'm very mushroom moon, but the third one depends on how i feel. Mountain for work, flower when im feeling cute and then stone when i want to feel more cool.
i think i nailed down my top 2 (stone and mushroom) but cant nail down the 3rd. i look at the 3rd root to be reflected in accessories or small details in an outfit. i bounce between flower and earth a lot since childhood. i also identify with earth on a personal values/priorities level, but hardly ever reflect it in my clothes lol trying to straighten that out.
I’m fire, mountain and caught between mushroom, earth and moon. But I feel like my personality gets split between work and personal life. So mountain with fire influences is strong for me and I feel confident in that but then I’m very sporty and love Parisian style and more hippie style clothing too. I think figuring out how to blend all of it is where I’m getting stuck
Just want to put it out there, I once read somewhere that when you're sorted into a Hogwarts House, you are sorted based on the traits that you VALUE and would like to work towards, not necessarily the traits that you actually have right now. For me, the same applies here. I am not a particularly calm, serene type of person, I can be chaotic at times but I do love the Water (I like that name better) style root as it speaks to my higher self - who I want to be, what I want to embody and the life that I would like for myself :)
that's a great take on this
this is a great explainer as to why my boyfriend & I (accidentally) dress the same multiple times - we have similar style roots!
(My core look is definitely based on foundational roots but sometimes I lean into other aesthetics I love like vintage influences in the 70s, 90s grunge, 90s airport model aesthetic, and Mediterranean influences)
Experimenting with style roots this way gave me so much clarity, alignment and authentic expansion with my style! Thanks Ellie-Jean :)
I've been waiting for a style roots video! Honestly the most fun system I've come across
2:15 😂 oh my goodness. Yes! Girl, maybe consider one of those “flameless” candles. 😉
Yes I totally feel this!
I am the same! 🌱🍄🌸 I realised from this video that the witchy looks that I like are actually more earth than moon 🌙
Your style root system is really so fun and beginner friendly 🙏 I really hope it spreads far and wide and you make way more content about it because it makes dressing myself feel easier and more fun instead of boring or stressful 😅
I don't have much of a knack for fashion and I hate clothes shopping so I've always just grabbed the quickest easiest thing in the store but now I want to dress in a way that actually represents me as a person and makes me feel more confident in my clothes- but I had no idea how to do that lol.
I also believe I am a romantic body type so I often channel fire naturally and try to lean more cutesy with flower in certain settings
I love this system so much it has helped me immensely with my personal style
I love how passionate you are about style 🤍
I totally relate to trying to sift out which roots are the REAL you, I'm sure about Mushroom and Sun (mostly because as a Kibbe Dramatic and a Bright Winter they just naturally come out in my harmonious lines and palette) but for the third the question is always "do I have Stone or do I just always dress casually and comfortably because of my neurodivergence (sensory issues against tight/uncomfy clothes, constantly being in a rush making me put in less effort, etc)?" "Do I have Mountain or do I just think it aligns with Dramatic lines and have a millennial bias towards officewear?" "Do I have Fire or does the media just have me wishing to be perceived in a more stereotypically sensual way that doesn't actually honour my true essence and self?"
Right now I'm happy to be working in a Mushroom x Sun x Mountain paradigm while looking to some Stone and Fire influence if I'm in the mood to experiment.
So fun!
This is one of the clearest style roots overviews you've made. Great visuals and explanations.
It likely is too late as she has all her marketing material as mushroom
I think the traits of Flower don’t really vibe with Ethereal tho. Where Flower is Sweet, Ethereal is Aloof. Ethereal isn’t really quaint or charming. Flower has this youthful, vibrancy where Ethereal is old/ancient and otherworldly. A Star root totally makes sense!
I agree. They seem very different to me. I don’t identify with Flower at all, but I could with Star.
@Keapix when I think about verified Ethereal celebs that dont have Ingenue, i also cant picture Flower working. Like can I really see Tilda Swinton in sweet, dainty dress?
So far this video is the clearest and best explained on Style roots
Flower, moon and earth♡ these match with my personality too! Loved this video, it was perfect ❤ thanks Ellie 🌷
It's always been a confusing one to me and the emoji doesn't make it clearer (it evokes cottagecore to me)
@@abigaelmacritchie1365 I think the new emoji 🍄🟫 suits the mushroom style root better than 🍄
@@abigaelmacritchie1365 yess the forest vibes really don't fit lol
@@yellow-perse yes!!
Water speaks much more clearly to me than Mushroom ever did, and it makes the system more balanced in a way
Agreed!
I had totally thought of star and water too! Thank you that clarifies it ❤
I used to be so confused about my most dominant style root until you mentioned the water aspect!
Beautiful 🤩
Your hair is looking so good!!
I think she has them all now! It was tricky finding mine because of the order but I did!
@@neon.neutral Oh, thanks! I thought the order mattered.
Thank you, Ellie-Jean! Another fabulous video!
Love watching your progress! Your channel is lovely and quite informative.
Your studio looks soooo lovely!!!
Found your channel recently but I'm falling love with it 💖
Wow, fire moon and mountain! When I was younger I had sun instead of mountain...
I am totally in favour of adding Star and switching Mushroom to Water! 😍
This if the first time I’ve understood what you mean by style roots. Heading to Pinterest for some new ideas! Thanks!
What a fun system! Where my Sun ☀️ x mountain 🏔️ x fire 🔥 girlies at?
Gasp! I’m mountain x fire x sun!! I was scrolling the comments wondering if anyone else would have my same 3 💖
This is very helpful to get to your focus. I have two that are definitely me. Do I have to pick a third? Or can it just be an a minimal?
Through my fashion style, I realized that my main style roots are Flower, Mushroom, and Mountain. These days, I think that Mushroom and Mountain are interchangeable in terms of importance, but Flower is my main style root. With my fourth style root, it's either Fire or Stone.
Love this! I'm definitely FlowerxStone and I think Mushroom is my 3rd, but I'm unsure, ig time will tell
I find I’m usually flower/mushroom and then swap out the third constantly to keep things fun and keep me from getting bored.
Flower and fire are mine in not sure if stone or mushroom for the 3rd one.
MMM : Moon, Mountain and Mushroom for me xD Love tailored, structured pieces with a play between Parisian chic and rock chick vibes
Hello :)
I (re)discovered you through your "interviews" with Rita and Gabrielle.
Applause and thanks for the Pinterest boards 👏👏👏
I’m fire and flower but I’m not sure what my third one is, my top three things in order : timeless, sensual, carefree
We have the same style roots right now! Mine are also mushroom-earth-flower
I feel like I'm flower fire and earth in the warm seasons...and flower fire and mushroom in the cold seasons. Is it possible? ❤
It's nice we can link these to face essence, i have classic snd ingenue and when I wear old money, there is something wrong.
I’m definitely Stone, Earth and Mushroom because it looks the best on me but it feels so boring😮💨
I wish I had moon and fire in my style but it honestly never looks good because my impression on others is very serious yet sweet, not so passionate and edgy, but that’s how I feel on the inside
