Reasonable points you raised, Adrienne. As a biz owner, I try to interview a range of candidates as my (subconscious) biases may be a factor. And occasionally I’m surprised. But, I always seek to hire the best fit. One thing I will question regarding your personal example is that are the opportunities to even be considered (interviewed) there for ALL qualified people? I assume you weren’t the first qualified black teacher in your area. I live in a major metro area and our school of over 4000 students and 200- 300 teachers / leaders had ZERO black teachers… that was in 2019/2020. My kid graduated that year. Of course the WNBA teams should hire the best coach fit they can find. We also have to keep in mind that most hiring decisions are reasonably subjective.
I think there had been another black teacher there years prior to me, but it was long before. Since then, there have been maybe 3. And the current superintendent is black.
Look how a competent male coach even has Angle getting into the gym now to work on her game. Funny how that works because she’s knows if she doesn’t get better she won’t be playing period. He plainly said that playing time must be earned. I love it!
Well another thing was her high school coach was a man and said that she's still just as lazy as she was back then. She never practiced her game to get better. She used/uses her height to her advantage and never runs down the court to get back on defense.
Best coach, despite the gender that said it would be nice, to see a higher % of women considering this is a women's league. At the end of the day, each team needs to put their best foot forward to win games, draw revenue, and grow the league while turning a profit. Whatever coach can help to that end should be the choice.
The team owners have to decide what they want, winning or pacifying it's employees/contractors. Noelle Quinn is a black coach who severely underperformed and has still kept her job.
Just the best coach for the job, a lot of people thought coach Wetherspoon would be great. We all know how that turned out, again, just the best, men, women, black or white.
Excuse this... BUT ... more than half of the WNBA acts like they want to be men. So, I don't have a problem with them hiring men. On many occasions, the MEN are needed.
There's an OG "old guard" that ran the WNBA due to the limited revenue. With CC, she disrupted the status quo and it was revealed by the snubbing and disrespect she received from active and retired players and coaches. The proof is in the pudding, and as long as CC is around, the league will have to deal with the growing pains.
It's incredible the male versus female coaching mentality. Whoever is the best qualified should be coaching period. And personally, I been wanting Becky Hammond to be a head coach in the NBA because she seems to know her stuff and was highly respected when she was an assistant coach in the NBA. I would have loved it if the Fever hired Mark Jackson to coach their team...BUT I have seen how qualified AND motivating and inspiring Stephanie White is and I am ecstatic that she is the coach. I bet you that the real players in the WNBA would be excited if they had a Larry Brown, Chuck Daly, Pat Riley, Erik Spoelstra or even a Phil Jackson type coach to come coach their team so they could maximize their talents and players.
This is a woman's league and I think it should be all women including the head coach! They can hire men as assistant coaches, because they may know the game but they have to realize coaching women has to be different than coaching men
I don't disagree. I wouldn't mind it if it were all women. I know for myself that I don't enjoy women in male sports. However - there may not be a large enough pool of women to choose from and that may be why men are often chosen. For decades male sports have been shut down in college because not enough woken showed interest in sports and schools wanted to comply with Title IX. That same issue may be applicable to coaching - not enough female coaches. My speculation.
@@Mirror_of_the_Soul00 I am not a fan of only having women coaches--I mean, unless they explicitly make that a part of their rules/existence, that this is what they do. But if it's wide open, they all should be considered equally. I disagree that there aren't enough women to be coaches. They only have 13 teams.
@@theadriennerossshow Well, it is not that important to me either way when it comes to women's sports. the sex makeup of the coaches. When I say there may not be enough women coaches - do not mean it in the absolute sense numerically; rather, the GM's may not feel that there are enough women coaches during this off-season that is a) available b) competent c) that fit the vision and culture of their team and are d) WILLING to coach. I think of coaches Sides and Jensen (Iowa) content to be assistants for over 20 years before becoming HC's. Also, some women may be waiting for more favorable coaching situations. Fever, for example, was the second to last team to fire a coach but the first to hire a new one.
They need coaches who can teach basketball fundamentals. Too many of the teams show very little fundamental skills and some of the current coaches show little indication of any attempt to change that.
😅Well first thing is this a lot of men's coach to college teams basketball😂 then you got Becky hammer the one that got spend it for😂 two games and not lose her job she know what's going on😂😂😂
Many of the wnba titles were won by male coaches.. and the most successful NCAAW coach is a male - Geno. I could care less either way. Honestly, I am SHOCKED that this topic has not become a major issue in women's sports. Even in Tennis and Gymnastics, the ladies often have male coaches and trainers
Of course, Coach Pat Summitt had Geno beat for some time. Had she not gotten early onset dementia and subsequently passed away, that rivalry would have continued, and my bet would be on my fave, Coach Summitt! ❤
@@theadriennerossshow That is very true. btw... watched a documentary last month about the rivalry between these two. It seems Geno has always been a major jerk. It seems that Pat Summit thought they were friends. But Geno, out of jealousy started saying some harsh things against Pat Summit. So his comments toward Clark is nothing knew.
And yes, it is important for young people to see themselves in role models they can indentify with. But as you say, these are adults. I believe they should now be role models for the younger people. We are a diverse society and ahould reflect that.
My main thing isn't about what happens on the court, its about the locker room situation. Let's say a fight breaks out in the locker room because there are a lot of unhinged players in this league, that coach would not be able to go in that locker room if players are still getting changed. They would have to go by what others have said to understand what happened (which may be tweaked for the more favorable player). Another thing to think about is this could open the door for more men playing in women sports because you are already opening the door for male coaches that would be in the locker room.
Agreed it's just like everything else, chemistry is big thing. Some girls prefer men coaches some do better with women. Sick of racism and men vs women the most qualified with the most team chemistry to get most out of the team
Before Stephanie became Fever coach, there were rumours about Marc Jackson or Stephanie possibly becoming one. Never thought about the two in those terms nd now it is pushed in the face. Just do what is good for the team
The women in this league have no problem with a mens league keeping them afloat for 27 years. If they had to attract their fans with their play and conduct to pay themselves out of their league's profit, their woke activism would soon disappear. The financing they've received from the men of the NBA is what's allowed them to be so toxic and still exist... They lose $40 million dollars and threaten to strike the people covering their loss... How much would it cost the NBA if the players of the WNBA quit playing? They would have millions more for their own league and none of the aggravation and drama that has been the result of their efforts to help the women if the WNBA... And now, there should be only women coaches instead of the best coaches who could help elevate this league out of the losing operation it's been for nearly 3 decades?.. It's so unfortunate for the many great women athletes of the WNBA that the league is under the control of individuals who are promoting an agenda instead of the great sport of basketball... The league should do everything it can through management and coaches to improve the level of play and the excitement the fans are looking for when they come to a game. Hire the best coaches who help create exciting play and develop incredible athletes that millions will want to watch.
Well, if that is the way they feel, then there should only be Women Refs. Also, they should be funded by women, not a men's league, such as the NBA. Just saying.
Another point where the W seems to be about other than professional sports...if they want to be consistent (and consistently non-inclusive) put it in the rules that all players and staff must be women. Solved (potential legal issues aside...)
Mark Jackson was talked about for the Fever before Stephanie White was considered. Maybe because White was still in the playoffs. The Fever would probably have been happy with Mark Jackson. Now that one half of the coaches have been fired both men and women, the WNBA teams have time to prepare for new coaches.
The Fever right now has Male assistant coaches and their practice squad is all Male. I think it would not make a difference if a man was head coach just like it does not in College Basketball
Exactly how large is the pool of women coaches who are available, who want the job, and who have experience coaching (or at least playing an extensive amount of basketball), preferably successful experience? And if we're adding the requirement "melanated", then how large is the pool? Bottom line: "WNBA Coach" is probably a job for which the pool of qualified and available women is small. It's noble to want to have female coaches for the WNBA, but it might not be realistic. ◼ If you cannot find enough well-qualified female coaches, then pick male coaches. If it turns out that a particular male coach is unable to successfully coach women, for whatever reason, then at least you tried. ◼At the end of the day, the female athletes playing for the WNBA teams, athletes most of whom are women of color, deserve the best chance of success possible. If that translates to a qualified male coach, so be it.
The best person should be hired regardless of gender, race or any other factor except competency and fit with team culture. As far as activism, i applaud people who stand on their principles but i want to watch basketball. What players do to be involved with their communities after games is their business. And i don't follow their social media posts...their lives are theirs and should be private.
She has played for a long time. Is she still really that insecure or is she looking for an excuse for future excuses for poor play. The black female coach may be harder on her than any other since the coach has already been where she currently is in life.
While on coaches, will we soon see another Fever-like team in the Atlanta Dream with their new coach Karl Smesko? His almost total reliance on "3-pointers or layups only"...mid-range attempts often lowest in the nation...combined with fast pace, gave him an 83% win rate over 22 years. Future battles between White and Smesko will be very interesting...logo 3's vs ATLs (after the line). ツ

I don't think it matters what your age is. If u feel better about having a black coach then why not as long as that coach is one of the best. Preferences
All this talk about race in professional sports is Ridiculous. Professional sports are all about performance. The coach can be purple as long as he or she wins.
I thought teams would try to hire the best coach available. Can we not get involved qquestioning, what % are white or black or female or male!! Just raises issues that are in no way related to basketball. 😊
Don't they have female coaches in the NBA?! I'm in favor of the male coaches. A specific gender is needed in some cases like for the Sky's team. What woman can handle Chenndy? I also wanted a male coach for the fever, because of how Sides couldn't hold her own. Caitlin also has a guy's style of play. Look how the Aces felt when they lost Tyler. I feel the Sky will improve greatly under him
Sides not being able to hold her own is different from Teresa not being able to handle Chennedy, I think. It was about the x's and o's with Sides more than anything.
are these players looking for a mommy or daddy figure or a coach?? the whole thing seems weird to me. i would think they’d want the best coach. someone who has the knowledge and experience and interest in helping them reach and exceed their potential as individuals and as a team !
I am not 100% sure about this but if the W doesn’t pay it’s players as well as the men then I am sure they don’t the coach as well. If you are not paying as well as the NBA then your not getting the best male coach your just getting one that will coach for less than they could earn in the men’s league. Also a female coach is more familiar with female matters and probably better suited to coaching female players. Not many female coaches in the NBA. The right male coach may be fine but people like Geno should not even be coaching female athletes even in the college ranks he strikes me as a bully and chauvinist.
Cut out the racist and sexist complaints. You want to march through the streets, do that. As a basketball fan, if you don't stop with this mess, I'm out. Dribble the damn ball!
coaching at the pro level is a tuff job ... got to know the x's and o's ... got to be a great leader the players can look up to and bye into the message ... got to handle management and ownership ( rich people aren't easy to please) lol ... coach has to run a tight program with high expectations of the players on and off the court .... and if the coach don't win they wont be the coach long .. I would like to see females coaching females so even if they hire a man at least hire female assistant to groom for success ... wnba has been run terribly and has too many unaddressed problems ... and clark can't fix them ... will they waste the new found popularity ?? is the millions of new eyes going to just not like what they see and stop watching ?

I know why you can have such a feeling of pride when people are giving you praise about being a role model for them. However, I think this is part, if not even a root, of the problem. That article starts with the premise that you would or could, perhaps even should, be a better candidate as a role model for a certain group of students. I know it's written with a 'positive' slant, but it is just wrong. That article failed you, it's even a bit backhandedly insulting. You had the ability to inspire any of your students, as did your fellow teachers. Those kids were also failed, by their prior education. Just like Nneka, she was taught this same garbage, and it has prevented her from being able to connect to a coach 'different' than how she looks. It is not a good thing, 'to need to see role models that look like them'.
What I am saying is I get it. There is something to be said for having examples show young people it can be done. I have had black students tell me that black students could never get a particular award the school would give out because black people can't pass all their classes and not get any referrals. (That was the criteria for the award I'm talking about.) So until they see it done, depending on what they see outside of school, they don't believe. Seeing it can inspire them. Ultimately, in life, I've learned that people receive from those who care about them--period. But they're children. These WNBA players are grownups, so Nneka's mindset seems a little off to me. But it reveals what she values.
@@theadriennerossshow I understand what you are saying. I'm saying, you were told that by a HS student... That student's previous teachers and parents are what put that nonsense in their head. And while I don't exactly but blame that student, I can't say I have a lot of sympathy either. There is only a very small number of people responsible for an individual student (black or otherwise) in NYC from being incapable of passing their classes. There are plenty of examples, hundreds of years of examples, ignorance of those examples is a terrible excuse, and further proof of a bad education. Ignoring or even disparaging the success of legitimate examples is even worse. Sorry, I'm not heartless, I just have no tolerance for cries of the inability for educational progress while being unwilling to conjugate verbs. Perhaps we need to be showing examples of Nigerians that speak and write English better than I do. And... I hate to keep saying it, insulting to you. YOU, were standing right next to them... And yes, I agree the WNBA women are grown-ups. They, should, know better. But why? This is what they were taught. This type of thinking is what was also reinforced. Nneka is even younger than he/she was. Children retain this type of education. That is why it is such a problem, It's ingrained in them. Showing a 15-18 year old an example is like a bag of chemo, after feeding them carcinogens for 10 years. We, need to just eliminate the need to search out racial examples while they are still 3-5.
@@basilfawlty241 I taught 12 and 13-year olds (in Upstate NY, not NYC) most of my career, and it's not their fault what they've been exposed to. I have no beef with them, and good teachers help them understand these things. My point is about grown behind people like adult women in this league.
@@theadriennerossshow My apologies for the error in the age range of your students. But, my point remains, and NYC, Albany, or Rochester, it shouldn't matter. By the time, they come into your classroom, they had already been led down a bad path. I also understand, that you, and other good educators, try to navigate that path the best you can going forward. My argument is for correcting the path they were put on. The system is bad, and is full of the wrong people. I don't have stats, but people like yourself are outnumbered, and it's sad. Sorry, that this turned into such a tangent. Hope you have a great day.
As a player, I'd prefer to have a woman coach. And I'd prefer that she also played herself at some point. That woman would have a more realistic view of what women players are capable of. I'm not a "feminist" or an "activist" in the way you used the term, but this is just how I feel about it. I think the best possible coach for women is a woman. (Men like Geno of Connecticut come off as sexist to me. He may give male coaches a bad rep in my mind. Also, in my playing years (grade school through college), I only had a male coach for one year, and he was my least favorite coach. )........... I am so glad the Fever didn't get a male coach. I was really really hoping they wouldn't. But also, I wanted Stephanie as soon as I knew they finally let Christie go, so that could be part of it.......Also, I don't see anything wrong with what Nneka said.

regardless of sexual preference , please evaluate people for their goodness, abilities, willingness and love .
@🎯Agreed! If only certain WNBA players and even some regular people like us thought that way.
If these male coaches decided to identify as women they would be completely fine with it and even celebrate it. Let’s keep it real.
Who cares about what parts you have or your skin colour. Let's get back to a meritocracy. We will all be better off for it.
how about NBA(male) not financing the WNBA!
She was horrible and deserved to be fired
Excuse this... BUT ... more than half of the WNBA acts like they want to be men. So, I don't have a problem with them hiring men. On many occasions, the MEN are needed.
Okay, this made me laugh. LOL!
@theadriennerossshow Yes indeed... lol
women want to be men ???
I don't want a man's body
.I play sports , I am an accomplished tradesperson .
There's an OG "old guard" that ran the WNBA due to the limited revenue. With CC, she disrupted the status quo and it was revealed by the snubbing and disrespect she received from active and retired players and coaches. The proof is in the pudding, and as long as CC is around, the league will have to deal with the growing pains.
the wnba has a responsibility to hire the best coaches available
Becky Hammond coached in the NBA
So you'd be against women coaching men at the highest level too, presumably...? That could be made to sound quite problematic
They need coaches who can teach basketball fundamentals. Too many of the teams show very little fundamental skills and some of the current coaches show little indication of any attempt to change that.
Best qualified coach male or female:-)
😅Well first thing is this a lot of men's coach to college teams basketball😂 then you got Becky hammer the one that got spend it for😂 two games and not lose her job she know what's going on😂😂😂
The Women’s basketball league has at least 2 men playing in it, when they have a rule that you must be a woman to belong to the WNBA. Start there.
I think the best person should coach man or women. The best person period.
This issue is all that's wrong with the WNBA
A team should hire the best person for the job, regardless of sex, race, etc. Hire by merit, not by genitalia.
Adrienne-how many black coaches have won a championship in the WNBA???Black women don’t listen to black women -drama
1st! Laying in bed sick & I get you to watch ❤ It should be the MOST qualified & not gender, imo
Me too. Ugh! 😒😒😒 And I agree with you. Consider the most qualified for both sexes.
Agreed it's just like everything else, chemistry is big thing. Some girls prefer men coaches some do better with women. Sick of racism and men vs women the most qualified with the most team chemistry to get most out of the team
@@MrsBStacyBattleBornfeel better soon too ❤
please evaluate people for their goodness, abilities, willingness, and love....not their sexual preference.
Is this American basketball league required to hire only Americans?
Responsibility: No Opportunity:Yes
Well, if that is the way they feel, then there should only be Women Refs. Also, they should be funded by women, not a men's league, such as the NBA. Just saying.
Oooo, tell it! There's that!
Who gives a damn? Just as long as the team succeeds, man or woman.
BECKY HAMMON SPURS NBA.. What are we talking here?😂 this getting too left like a woke Dem at this point
We should be fine with more women refs and coaches in the NBA
Another point where the W seems to be about other than professional sports...if they want to be consistent (and consistently non-inclusive) put it in the rules that all players and staff must be women. Solved (potential legal issues aside...)
Mark Jackson was talked about for the Fever before Stephanie White was considered. Maybe because White was still in the playoffs. The Fever would probably have been happy with Mark Jackson. Now that one half of the coaches have been fired both men and women, the WNBA teams have time to prepare for new coaches.
Hire the best no matter the skin color or gender.
NO.
I feel that the players should decide as a team
Good commentary ✅
Used to watch the Shock. Remember the quality laimbeer and mahorn used to expect.
Only the players have to be women. Everything else is up for grabs in order to create the best teams and league.
The Fever right now has Male assistant coaches and their practice squad is all Male.
I think it would not make a difference if a man was head coach just like it does not in College Basketball
They're only required to hire women to play basketball. Also, hire the best person for the job
I believe that there should be more male coaches in the wnba
I think thats called DEI
"Get the best possible person" should be the ONLY criterion, and if you are guided by any other criteria, then you will acting on preferential prejudices...aka descrimination. ツ
What happened to being an inclusive league?
Good ole Geno has been coaching UCONN for 40 yrs. Hmmm😂😂😂
No man or woman best coach for the team way to go
Here’s the real question, do successful women college coaches want to coach in the WNBA? Crickets
Who is that looking like a small boy asking the black woman about coaches? They're both so wrong and in this case not helping each other at all
Karl Smesko is the new coach for the atlanta dream they announced it today.
Yes, I shared that in the video.
I don't think it matters what your age is. If u feel better about having a black coach then why not as long as that coach is one of the best. Preferences
Welll, she didn't make "one of the best" her priority. I question culture, so I have to ask, "Why do you think she feels better having a black coach?"
how many women coach mens teams ?? in any sport?.
lets ask kara lawson, now dukes womens bball coach whom tried mens nba coaching...
I say go for it
All this talk about race in professional sports is Ridiculous. Professional sports are all about performance. The coach can be purple as long as he or she wins.
I thought teams would try to hire the best coach available. Can we not get involved qquestioning, what % are white or black or female or male!! Just raises issues that are in no way related to basketball. 😊
Do you think WNBA players would prefer a male or female coach if they had the choice?
I think they'd prefer a female coach. I would.
I think most just want to win.
No but they have a responsibility to hire female players!
I agree! Bring on the best!
The right male coach may be fine but people like Geno should not even be coaching female athletes even in the college ranks he strikes me as a bully and chauvinist.
totally agree about Geno. And I'd rather have women coaches in the WNBA also.
EEOC wooohoioi.....
I am about 15 years older than you. My high school teachers were from the World War II generation. Is there a generation in Hawaii, the only career for us for a college graduate who was white, was teaching. Most professional careers, whether in medicine, government, or management, or hills, like white people. As a result, almost all of college graduates, who are not white, and they’re degrees view the G.I. Bill. And they became teachers. Probably 95% Japanese male army veterans. The remainder will mostly of Filipino ancestry.hey so what are you getting straight with Carmen where women join the teaching profession call me and diversity group in the teaching profession as well as other areas of employment.
Title IX of the US school in the 1970s open athletics to women. Female coaches the guarantee came from eugene Jiminez besides being a swimmer from I was also a photo editor on my college newspaper. Your award more than one piece, mill coaches, but only two female coaches. They were forced to cover multiple sports. Both female coaches have never married. I will most milk cultures have been married at some point in their lives, then he will divorced. Oh, shoot is very demanding lifestyle. I wonder how many male or female willing to accept the challenge and sacrifice.
Does the nba hire women coaches?
Wnba need more women,i know gino male coach gotta go....i hope wnba steps up for the betterment of women players thiugh the wnba hasn't stepped up on much, looks like nen are going to be stepping in..sad.. c'mon weeeee neeeed more women coaches!!
They only have 3 men coaches. Would you say they shouldn't have any?
@theadriennerossshow yes, with respect not if their going to be another cc hater like Gino,I really am just trying to promote more women, are there women coaches in NBA cause I really don't watch it,look women need to stand up for women but I will say get rid of a woman coach whose going to be a hater as well, hope I made any sense 😁
@@ClaraTrujillo-re5hf I appreciate you giving me your perspective. :)

Final thought. And I think you did hit upon this at the beginning. These posts are likely not a good representation of the publics view. I like to give it the 'view test'. Imagine you asked this question as a panalist on... that show. 😉
I don't know. We are living in the world of woke.
@@theadriennerossshow The world of woke has gone broke, and will completely crumble, so long as you don't give in. The US elections just turned the tides, Canada will fall next year.
I'm not sure I can explain why, but men coaching women at the high school level on up is off putting to me. There have to be women coaches that are capable.
Sure they should hire the best coach. I am male but personally I imagine the better coach is for the WNBA is a woman in most cases. They understand the differences in the W game, they probably played in the league, they understand how women think better. That's a lot of advantages to overcome.
Why the Unrivaled league not trying to recruit A’ja Wilson the MVP of the league the WNBA best player-the most popular player with all the privilege the fans favored-
