French election chaos, Rachel Reeves orders finances review and Nigel Farage, MP | The Daily T

- In a shock result, the second round of French elections delivered a victory of sorts to the left-wing New Popular Front alliance, pushing Marine le Pen’s National Rally into third place behind the centrists. But with no group winning a majority in parliament, President Emmanual Macron now faces some difficult choices.
To discuss what it means for France, Europe and the UK’s fledgling government, Kamal and Camilla are joined in the studio by French journalist Charlotte Kan and The Telegraph’s resident Parisian Adelie Pojzman-Pontay.
Plus, how has Prime Minister Keir Starmer fared in his first few days in government? The new Cabinet is off to a flying start, but Kamal and Camilla notice a familiar name that keeps cropping up: Tony Blair. We also have a dispatch from Nigel Farage’s victory tour around his new constituency of Clacton.

How France deals with Islam is the real question but they are too afraid to even mention it.
“Deals with Islam”? The far right is actually the real danger. That’s why they are projecting their fear based ideology onto a minority group.
Yes, - it's not about economics. It's about racial and religious replacement and cultural anihilationi
I’m 61 and I’m fearful of this country becoming an Islamic state. Look at Lebanon religious demographics in the late 70’s and now!

Perhaps former colonial people have a claim to French citizenship?
Homogeneous countries still have partisan politics and identities.
As for India, there are huge sectarian divisions over religion and the caste system, whereby some minorities are seen as less Indian.
China also has multiple ethnic identities, Han, Manchu, Tibetan, Uighurs, Bai, Pumi, etc, and two major languages Mandarin and Cantonese.
Had they not become indepent they might have had a claim to French citizenship, but independent countries have no claim to anything.

The “far far far left” should stop calling the right “far right”
exactly this ..!
33.2% every third French, the majority in the countryside voted RN. And the left and the center allied in no time against the strongest block shouting FAR right. That attitude of the center and the left is FUNDAMENTALIST and is organised by a media machine.
The two round voting system is HEAVILY biased towards coalitions. Same as the two round presidential system. The union of the right is unavoidable. The Patriots for Europe group will help rebrand Le Pen, Kickl, Babits, Salvini, maybe Fico and others who join. And the cordonne sanitaire that prevented the union of the right will be broken.

France is officially in recession and has been since May. Only Canada is doing worse. Personally, I've put my Paris apartment up for sale since the elections were called. I have 2 other passports - 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇭 - a son in Spain 🇪🇸 and work online. Bank accounts already transferred abroad, perfectly legally. I'm a very middle income earner, save that I own my apartment, have my own business. A minimum wage of 1600 euros means I'd go bankrupt if I wanted to hire someone. My retirement age is already 67, has been since previous president Hollande.
Can’t imagine anyone having a U.S. passport and not choosing to live in the US if they are still of working age/need. Earn in the US, retire in the EU.
If only Putin had not invaded Europe and destabilized the world economy.
Cool story.. I’m doing the exact same thing in reverse. I’m moving from Hungary to France because of this election outcome. Already transferred my $43 million in assets to French banks.. Will be putting all my business there.
Owning an apartment in one of the most important cities isn’t middle income. lol middle income is struggling to get by

Nigel Farage is The only Hope The UK Has Left#.
Reform is pushing the same economic policies as Liz Truss, so if that's "hope" I'll take despair instead.
He can promise anything because he's not in power. When pressed on how he'll achieve his aims he folds like a broken deckchair.
Scotland and NI don't reckon so. They are wide awake and don't need reformed by the Clacton crusader.
Reform parliament and get rid of the mediaeval pantomime rehtoric. Do that and the 4 nations won't need hope.
From my activist experience with UKIP and Reform over the last thirty years the electorate who identify as being on the Right are not generally prepared to engage in activism. Those of the Left are prepared to engage in political activism to get what they want and they are successful too. In short, those on the Right should not be looking to what Reform can do for them but what they can do for Reform. Those of a Right wing persuasion need to find their cojonnes and engage in activism or they will be crushed and they only have themselves to blame.
Nigel Farage would destroy the UK economy. Don't be fooled by populist drongos.

Is this the Telegraph or the Guardian? When asked what the host thought of the first days of a labour government, she said, "I'm loving it." This is a Conservative journalist, supposedly. On top of this her co host said "frankly without migration we wouldn't have had any economic growth". What absolute rubbish. I think I'll watch Guardian podcasts in future. This is the worst of the Right. I just wish we could vote these out too.
Kamel could hardly tell the truth about immigration which is just repeating the Bank of England misplaced and inaccurate ideology that all immigration is good whereas the truth is, integrating new arrivals if they are even willing to integrate, costs an eye watering £90 billion, with strains across all the infrastructure.

Housing targets will never be hit.....are they planning to arrest the owners of house building companies if they miss a target? Is there a target on migration? If just saying the stuff is "Hitting the ground running" then there will be a lot of very deluded Labour voters fairly soon. Beneficiaries of overseas colonies were usually a small number of merchants looking for safety in their travels from their own govt. Not the general population. Countries which have been self governing for over 50 years are not due welfare at the cost of current tax payers. By denying welfare to economic migrants, it insures people who do arrive in Europe are self funding. This is a typical expectation in other countries outside Europe. A number of countries would also expect immigrants to arrive with a minimum amount of capital, like $100k, in return for a visa .
This is an exciting opportunity for the French to reunite around the
classical ideas of the Enlightenment, such as Liberty, Equality

France, like many other countries, suffers from a poverty of spirit. This is confused for a poverty of material wealth but objectively France is materially wealthy. The USA is much farther down this path. After all, the poorest people get housing, food, hot and cold running water, toilet and bathing facilities. The king of France in the 1800’s didn’t have this real material wealth available to the poorest people today. We need human contact not stuff.

The far right is the far right, just as a lemon is a lemon. Those who support extreme right-wing views often lack understanding. Economically, right-wing ideology favours small government and aims to preserve the status quo, while being socially conservative. The far right, however, tends to blame immigrants for various issues and proposes policies that could lead to brain drain and capital flight due to instability.
The centre-left aims to balance the economy, health, education, economic growth, and investment in people. Currently, most economies are struggling with large deficits caused by Covid-19. The major issue today is housing, where both left and right have failed, leading to widespread anger worldwide. Don't vote for a party that will tank your economy. Look at what Truss did in the UK. No thanks.
