I love the idea of this but what I'm really missing is a test showing how they behave in a cooler.
How long do they last? How do they compare to ice? How do they compare to a some standard bought ones?
I made ice packs out of lengths of plastic tube, sized for the cooler box. Water+ 10% salt. Leave a little space in each for expansion.
I use, salt water in old half gallon milk bottles, also frozen water bottles stay frozen in a lunch bag or soft side cooler bag for a long time, in a hot car, or at the beach.
It's hard to beat a frozen water bottle. Love the half gallon milk jugs of saltwater idea! Thanks for sharing.
Hi! This was very helpful and I’m using this for pe because I fell down on my knee😢
Plastic bags will leak every time. Use food bags heat sealing bags. They will last a lot longer I would still double wrap them. When you freeze them it uses a lot of electricity. Just fries one at a time
How much more or less does the salt water expand when frozen?
I didn't measure it, but about the same as regular water would when frozen, I'd say.
I used the 2 c. water / 1/3 c salt option. My bags wouldn't freeze solid, even after more than 24 hrs. in the freezer. More like slush. Are they supposed to freeze solid? If so, not sure what I did wrong. :/
I had to turn the temperature down on my freezer to get them to freeze solid then man were they cold! An easier solution is probably to decrease the salt to water ratio by half or more. You could take those same ice packs you made, mix them with the same amount of pure water, then make double the ice packs and they should freeze easier. The more salt, the lower the freezing temperature.
Would it be stupid to put the sponges in salt water and freeze it? Would it last longer that way too or does it not matter?
I don't think that'd be stupid at all. Salt lowers the freezing temperature of the water, so I'm not sure they will last longer necessarily, but they will likely be colder to start.
What's the point in freezing detergent? how is that different than water? Could be a terrible toxic mess with that bag leaked.
Which one stay cold the longest?
@@outdoorempirecomhow long does cold effect should last for salt ice pack if you don't mind sharing? Preferably the same size as in the video.. Thank you in advance
@@ephidd290 why don't you find out yourself and then come back and tell us! 😒
Thank yourself in advance
So you don’t recommend buying ice packs? Asking because didn’t find videos comparing them, just the coolers
Honestly I rarely use ice packs and almost always use just ice. I may do a comparative test of ice packs sometime, but I'm not yet convinced they're worth it.
