  • The Queen Charlotte Track is an incredible 72 km multi-day hike on New Zealand's South Island in the Marlborough Sounds. The coastal track winds through beautiful green forests, past inviting bays in every shade of blue. Traditionally walked in four or five days, the hike (or 'tramp' as Kiwis say) is broken up by department of conservation campsites, or if you prefer, hotels and lodges! We used the water taxi company Cougar Lines to shuttle our bags from stop to stop, meaning that we only had to carry our day packs while hiking, and the longest day was 'only' 25 kms.

Welcome to New Zealand, hope you enjoy living here as I personally think it's an Awesome and Beautiful place to live, not that it doesn't have it's problems like every country. Maybe if in Auckland and it restarts you might like to do Auckland s Round the Bays run. I think it's New Zealands largest as ppl come from all over. Enjoy NZ

Thanks Roger, appreciate the comments! I've found Kiwis to be very welcoming and friendly, which really helps when arriving in a new country. That Round the Bays run looks like a lot of fun, will definitely see if I can coincide a trip to Auckland with when it's happening.

Curious what kind of shoes you would recommend for this trip. We are going in January and staying at some of the spots you did. Can't wait!

Hi Bill, the tracks are very well formed and maintained, so they are pretty flat underfoot and easy going, without too many rocky sections or excessively steep areas. I think you would be great in a comfortable pair of running or trail shoes, you won't need high ankled hiking boots! Enjoy the hike, it's such fun!

Nice video ☺️ Can I ask what section you would recommend if hiking for only a day or two ? For the best scenery 🌅

Thanks Aurore! I'd say that the scenery is beautiful (and fairly consistent) all the way through. If you are aiming for just one or two days, you're probably best doing the first section from Ship Cove to Camp Bay, two days of 17 and 11km, and the option to stay at Furneaux Lodge and / or Punga Cove :)

@@OwenSaysGo Thanks! Would you say that the trail condition I could see in your video is consistent through out? I'm considering hiking this alone and am assessing what I'm getting myself into.

Hey Guy, thanks for watching! The majority of the footage is filmed using my GoPro Hero 9, with a bit of footage from my Canon SLR and drone shots with a Mavic Mini.

Good effort you two! The cold ones at the end of each day were well earned.
