    Love my 705 and it’s fun to keep learning stuff about it. This really helped and I plan to download some repeater lists before my next trip. Cheers!

      @@k9swx Hey Stan. So I am totally having a heck of a time getting my 705 to see the .csv file in the Import->Repeater List. I am running the 1.32 firmware, just re-imported the ICOM USA_repeater list .csv file (it showed up and was I was able to Import it.) I am doing all of this with a micro SD card. I have tried saving the Repeaterbook file as various .csv "types" on my windows machine. That seemed silly but I was desperate. Opening the .csv file in notepad I see that all column items are comma separated. Both the ICOM USA_repeater file and my Repaeterbook file have all the same number and header names for the columns. What can I be missing? Do I need an ancillary file of some sort. I currently do not use any D-Star. I just want a list of all California repeaters. If I can figure this out I will finish setting up my D-Star settings. I have exhausted my googling too. Sorry to bug you..... any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

      @@k9swx Hey again Stan. So maybe I have figured something out. Maybe it has to do with the file name or format? I did an export of the ICOM USA repeater file from the radio. I could see that it then showed up as a new csv file when re-loaded into the radio. So I just renamed my California repeater list as this newly exported file. I see now too that there can only be one repeater file open and the group number I created didn't follow the ICOM group numbers I was seeing it just replaced everything. I will keep playing with this now and know that other repeater lists can just be on the SD card and retrieved when needed. Also confusing for me was that these repeater lists are visible in the only DR hierarchy memory even though I am only interested at this time in analog stations. I will keep experimenting. Thank you again for having your tutorial up!

      Sounds like you're on the right track. It can be a bit tricky to get it working but it's worth it once you figure it out.

    Love this feature so much I just bought an ID-50A to have the same capability in an HT.

    How up-to-date do you find the data on repeater book to be? Also, I am new to Dstar. In the To box it has local, use reflector etc. local I assume is used if going through a nearby repeater and use reflector is used when going through a hotspot?

    • @k9swx
      @k9swx  11 місяців тому

      At least for my area it seems pretty good. I often compare it with the state repeater association just to see. It's definitely better than the physical ARRL/RFinder repeater directory.
      As for the 705, I believe you want to use gateway CQ even if you're talking on the local repeater because if someone links the repeater to another repeater or reflector, they won't hear your transmission on the other side if you're just using local CQ.
      For the hotspot, you would use the reflector option.

    This only sets to near by repeaters updated by what you pulled off from repeater book. If you wanted to use the repeater list from icon just import again what’s on the sdcard?

    • @k9swx

      That should work but I don’t know how updated the list from Icom is compared to Repeater Book.

    Thanks for this video. Does the 705 have the function where you can hit scan and it will look for nearby repeaters as you drive? My ID-5100 does this and I think it's the best feature on a mobile radio for travel.

    • @k9swx
      @k9swx  11 місяців тому +2

      I've never tried the 705 while driving but the manual says the same thing the 5100 manual says about DR near repeater scan so it appears it will do it. Apparently my 4100 in the car will do that as well but I haven't setup the repeater list yet. Thanks for mentioning that feature!

      @@k9swx thanks for the reply. The near repeater feature is a game changer and is easily one of the best features in the mobile radio world. Know that if you give it a try, it will spoil you forever.

    Is there a way to mount the SD-card via the USB-C cable without removing it from the 705? ... None of my computers have an SD card reader.

    • @k9swx
      @k9swx  8 місяців тому

      Not that I have discovered. It is frustrating because to access the recordings I have to pull the card out and put it in the computer vs just being able to copy over USB or Bluetooth. It's also hard to access the card and I have to use small needle nose pliers and be very gentle with it.

    Thanks it worked fine, I now have near fm repeaters also, but it wiped out the Icom csv file for repeaters all over..any way I can have both together ?? The new software version 1.32 allows monitoring of many repeaters but you need the icom csv file ??? Thanks

      How did you program the regular repeaters? Did you use the Icom software or RT Systems?
