Under Indian laws, getting killed by this tribe is the same as getting killed by a pack of wolves. They cannot be prosecuted. They have federal protection. Even the Indian Navy isn't allowed to operate their warships in the vicinity of this island. Legally speaking , the term murder/homicide might not even be applicable. Let's just say that Mr. Chau committed suicide.
Fun fact: during ww2 when the Americans and Japanese were fighting over the Pacific, they flew planes over primitive islands. When explorers came to those same islands in the 70's the planes had become gods. With this in mind, it is quite possible that we are seen as devils or some sort of evil spirit.
To add to this, cargo cults formed from this too. The US built these bases on islands in the pacific where people had little to no contact in the outside world. The soldiers would trade items with the native for local food and resources. These natives would all of the sudden got electricity, new foods, new clothing, etc. Then the war ended, the US packed up and left. Now all these luxuries were gone. No one returned to these islands for decades $74 when we did go back we saw something incredible. So the natives began making clothing that looked like soldiers uniforms and used wood to craft fake guns, they built mock up runaways and air traffic towers and barracks. Then they would march around their fake military base like soldiers and wave sticks at the sky like runaway crewmen would do in hopes that the Americans would return with all the luxuries
Imagine the native mythology that must have formed around the outside world. Strangers show up every number of years. Once, some people were taken and returned. Huge vessels made of strange metal have washed up. A few days after a tsunami a strange flying thing shows up in the skies. Even in the coconut contact video you can hear the noise of the boat that must have been terrifying to them. What sort of folklore would accompany these events?
Exactly. For me, the helicopter in the sky could be a god, or the largest and loudest bird of prey ever! And these guys respond with: lets fuck em up Imagine the thoughts that are going through their minds.
Yeah imagine leaving them a smart phone and then talking to then through video live on a boat far back just to mind fuck the hell out of them lmao. Theyd probably attack the phone
Google Cargo Cults. Similar to what you're saying, they were isolated tribes in the South Pacific who encountered US and Japanese GIs that they believed were gods. Some of the tribes today still burn effigy's of WWII fighter planes in hope that it'll bring the GIs back.

They probably tell war-stories about destroying the demons who try to engulf their island and seek to rule the world. While we are just trying to be like, "Hey guys, wassup?" and we all know that we could wipe them out if we wanted without a single casualty, they probably regard us as a spiritual enemy that they alone have been successful in repelling for very particular spiritual reasons -- how else could you explain your bows and arrows slaying these giant beasts of war. How do you know they don't think helicopters are birds and these other people are witches or demons... they know nothing of the modern world... go watch the film "the gods must be crazy" it's a perfect example of what these people are like
well the extent of the modern world they are aware of is extremely limited to that of boats, aircrafts, and other outsiders or technology who happen to get close to them. they are totally unaware of our culture or how much culture is shared around the world thanks to the rapid advancements in instant international communication.
that's not true. Imagine a farmer who lives on a farm that doesn't use modern technology. No electricity, no running water. He pumps his water from a well and uses candles to see in the dark. He knows the modern world exists and knows at any point in time, he could probably travel 30 miles on his wagon and get to civilization. Now imagine a group of people who have been on a single island for thousands of years and every once in awhile they see a white/brown man who speaks gibberish. They kill him and life goes on. Most of them, I reckon 95% of them, have no idea what the modern world is. Even those who have communicated and breathed in what modern humans offered them had no understanding of the modern world. Do you think a traveler went to the island and explained to someone even the most basic version of our modern world (disregarding smart technology). "Our society works to where not everyone has to hunt for their food, we are protected by people payed by food, and living conditions are very good". Why wouldn't someone say yes to that? I would posit a theory that the Sentinelese COULD use fire in previous centuries (as per the report), but the knowledge was lost over time. This has happened on other islands where the native population became isolated from the outside world. Their technology not only stagnated, but actually regressed. As happened with the natives of New Zealand compared to their Australian Aboriginee comtemparies, the more advanced forms of hunting and fishing were lost over the centuries of isolation.

Their ignorance is their saviour because they would have run out of resources a long time ago if they had burnt trees and been forced of the island anyway .
When it comes to the Sentinelese' ability to build fire, it's been suggested that they previously had, and later lost, the ability, which seems somewhat plausible, considering North Sentinel has also experienced a steep depopulation in the time since estimates on their population has been monitored.

I mean it's entirely possible that they practised cannibalism in Marco Polo's time but have given it up in the 700 years since then. It's a common misconception that uncontacted stone age tribes are totally culturally stagnant, in reality their lifestyle changes over the generations even if their technology doesn't seem to advance.
You assume that their culture hasn’t changed, that is something we don’t know. You say Marco Polo speaks of cannibalism, but the fisherman that were killed (in 2006) were buried and were not consumed. You don’t know if at one time their culture practiced cannibalism and then it faded out. The problem is since you see them naked with a bow and arrow, you see them as incapable of change and progress. So people call them as ruminants of the Stone Age etc.... the truth is we don’t know how their attitude and culture has changed in passing generations. Also remember they have had brief encounters with the outside world. We don’t know if that changed or impacted their culture. For example if a violent expedition from the outside took advantage of them in any way, they could have learned how to mistrust the outside world and through their oral history they have learned to keep their distrust towards outsiders alive. Perhaps their aggression has a reason. Please don’t assume that they are unchanged and you are seeing people which haven’t developed in their own way, they have. From the knowledge they have about medicine to hunting to their oral history these are things that have developed , had to be learned and continue to change over time.
Offcourse they have changed, but who says for the better? They might have learned that outsiders caused unknown diseases and should not be eaten and instead be buried asap. That would be kind of intelligent. On the other hand, severe inbreeding and lack of nutrition will most certainly have degraded the brains of these people, their IQ can't be higher than the lowest in the "civilized" world. So you're right in that they don't know how to create fires, but they do have fires existing on the island, which the Sentinelese keep burning. The fires would generally be small and of course would not be big, because that would burn the whole island and finish them off.

Having been doing a bit of research on the Sentinelese myself lately, I thought I'd leave some criticisms on this video's content. Before we begin, just to qualify, this video is the best I've seen on the topic. 0:07 - The tribe isn't really stone-age, as they literally use metal. 0:09 - The Sentinelese also haven't refuse _all_ contact with outsiders. Read: Pandit in 1991. 0:17 - Thank you! Someone finally points out how close this place actually is to a metropolis instead of just calling it 'remote'. 0:45 - This is old information. The consensus nowadays does not support the direct African migration theory, instead posing that the Andamanese (the Sentinelese are Andamanese) migrated later from North India. 0:59 - I'm fairly certain the Sentinelese don't use harpoons, only spears (-the string). 2:01 - I don't think you can really call Spanish French and Italian 'almost ... mutually intelligible'. 2:26 - From what I've heard Marco Polo made those claims on hearsay and never actually visited the Andamans, let alone North Sentinel. And yeah, they aren't cannibalistic. 3:23 - The native Americans were certainly not stone-age. Read: Metallurgy in pre-Columbian America en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Metallurgy_in_pre-Columbian_America 3:52 - I struggled with this seeming contradiction as well in my own research. However I eventually came to the realisation that both John Ritchie’s 1771 report of lights onshore and a Sentinelese inability to make fire can be true. The key lies with the word make. The Sentinelese seem to consistently preserve fire, as T.N. Pandit points out here: www. google. com. au/books/edition/The_Sentinelese/5W1DAAAAYAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=fire 4:11 - I don't think it's reasonable to blame Portman's kidnapping for Sentinelese aggression, given that the Sentinelese attacked the crew and passengers of the _Nineveh_ years _prior_. 4:31 - I'm not saying you're wrong, but I do want to know where you sourced the Jarawa vs. Sentinelese idea. 4:43 - I don't think it means they necessarily had contact with the Sentinelese. It's entirely possible they saw the island from afar. 6:35 - To my knowledge only the _Primrose_ is still visible. (At least from satellite). 6:41 - The reef did indeed kill the _Primrose_, along with the inclement weather that caused it to hit said reef (a typhoon). The reef also killed the _Nineveh_ when it hit it during a summer monsoon. 6:51 - If the captain of the _Nineveh_ is to be believed, the Sentinelese used metal arrow-heads at least as far back as 1867. 8:00 - Leopold didn't get off the boat, so he wasn't exactly chased, but that's a minor thing. That's all I spotted. I'd just like to complement the video on its use of this topic to talk about broader themes, actually playing off the North Sentinel story and building a greater narrative instead of just recounting events. A few major errors are present however and they keep the video from greatness.
@A0ne they have to, it's not like there are new genes getting introduced in the genepool. they just have enough people to be above the minimum viable population, where they can make them just distantly related enough so the reprecussions are negated or at least mostly negated (If they figured out yet that inbreeding is bad)
@@beu9245 also they probably don't know about things like genetics so we cant blame them for anything, I mean westerners didn't even guess traits passed down from parent to offspring till around the middle ages
Tribal people have sound knowledge in their lineage and take pride in that, they would probably know the father's of their fathers and who belongs to which tribe and family ... therefore keeping away from inbreeding with close family members. For example, when the Arabs and Africans were once tribes, everyone knew their fathers, mothers ancestors going way back in generations and they took great pride in this. It is still common today for these tribal societies to know thier ancestory going back 20 generations...

With this in mind, it is quite possible that we are seen as devils or some sort of evil spirit.
omg yes-
To add to this, cargo cults formed from this too.

They probably tell war-stories about destroying the demons who try to engulf their island and seek to rule the world. While we are just trying to be like, "Hey guys, wassup?" and we all know that we could wipe them out if we wanted without a single casualty, they probably regard us as a spiritual enemy that they alone have been successful in repelling for very particular spiritual reasons -- how else could you explain your bows and arrows slaying these giant beasts of war. well the extent of the modern world they are aware of is extremely limited to that of boats, aircrafts, and other outsiders or technology who happen to get close to them. they are totally unaware of our culture or how much culture is shared around the world thanks to the rapid advancements in instant international communication.
that's not true.
In short, I don't think you could call them non-integrated into the modern world if most of them don't even know what the modern world is.

You assume that their culture hasn’t changed, that is something we don’t know. You say Marco
Polo speaks of cannibalism, but the fisherman that were killed (in 2006) were buried and were not consumed.
That would make it very hard to evolve in a positive direction.

I read I believe in an article where they interviewed TN Pandit, the Indian anthropologist who visited the island and he mentioned that the Sentinelese don't know how to create fire, but know how to keep fires (more likely small fires) going after lightning strikes on the island. So you're right in that they don't know how to create fires, but they do have fires existing on the island, which the Sentinelese keep burning. The fires would generally be small and of course would not be big, because that would burn the whole island and finish them off.

They. Are. Stone. Age. Humans. They are behaving not much differently from how we suspect many (not all) ancient tribes may have. That is their territory. They have made it *explicitly* clear multiple times that they do not want outsiders in their territory. That Jesus-freak Chow dude even got a "second chance". The first time he went onto the island, they chased him off, leaving him with cuts cuts and bruises. They can't speak any "modern" language. How else do you expect them to tell trespassers to f off?
That simple b*tch walked himself back onto the island the very next day, because jeebus. And he died. The Sentinelese have made it clear, repeatedly, FOR CENTURIES, that they shun the outside world. It is ILLEGAL by Indian law to even approach the island. And yet you are mad, and advocating genocide no less, because this 'Murican moron paid the ultimate price not only for disobeying the law, but disobeying the taboo of the island inhabitants while knowing that they are hostile? And it isn't even like they are interested in leaving their island and attacking people, they just want others to Stay. Out. They don't want anything we have, they don't want jeebus, cellphones, or to die horribly of disease. They just want to be left alone.
We get upset when the resident moron tear-gasses people, because he is breaking domestic laws. The people he is attacking are trying to present themselves at a legal Port of Entry to request asylum, which is perfectly legal in the U.S.A.
Now, if the U.S. withdrew from all international trade and treaties, and completely shut its borders to entry or exit any kind, we would have the right to kill anyone who crossed our borders, provided we made that known ahead of time. That would be our law, and no other country could really say anything about it so long as we stayed home.

The hell does it matter to you that they wish to remain isolated? Are you even within a two thousand mile radius of these people?
I bet you would be the first one to snivel and whine when someone played by your rules. Maybe someone should drag *you* kicking and screaming into society's version of normalcy? Maybe they should haul you to an institution to shock, beat, and drug you until you're fit to exist among the rest of us. And if you die while good people are wasting their time trying to "correct" you 1940s institution style...too bad. You were too much of an impotent, worthless, violent beast to begin with, insisting on offending normal people with your "freakishness".
Oh? We are all people, and have the right to live and think how we choose and not be forced to conform? Not according to you. You should know you hold a very...abnormal view of things, and by your own rules, you should be corrected, regardless of what you want, and regardless of whether you'd live through it.

Read: Metallurgy in pre-Columbian America en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Metallurgy_in_pre-Columbian_America
3:52 - I struggled with this seeming contradiction as well in my own research. However I eventually came to the realisation that both John Ritchie’s 1771 report of lights onshore and a Sentinelese inability to make fire can be true. The key lies with the word make. The Sentinelese seem to consistently preserve fire, as T.N. Pandit points out here: www. google. com. au/books/edition/The_Sentinelese/5W1DAAAAYAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=fire
4:11 - I don't think it's reasonable to blame Portman's kidnapping for Sentinelese aggression, given that the Sentinelese attacked the crew and passengers of the _Nineveh_ years _prior_.
The music is way too overwhelming during many parts of the video.
North Sentinel Island is Alabamas lost cousin
There is definatley a lot of inbreeding happening on that island.
@@beu9245 whoops I'm n idiot it was with Gregor Mendel in the 1800s, but my point it was relatively recent
