bro I can't thank you enough, I've been trying to emulate gba on my new Rog ally x and I couldn't figure out why the built in controller wasn't registering in MGBA. Turns out I needed to set control mode to gamepad in the control centre. Had no idea and out of sheer luck your 2 second clip helped me haha

Great video, super helpful! One tip - if you have a PC or laptop with a MicroSD card reader, I personally found managing the files there instead of on the smaller screen of the Ally X much easier.
I just want to say thank you for this video. I've tried before on my own and failed but today I finally succeeded and got games to run on my Rog ally. You're a legend bro. Subscribed for more knowledge on the Rog ally. Thanks again bro

Hey awesome tutorial!! Would you know how to change the screen size on the ds emulator? It gives me 1 small main gameplay screen and 2 large secondary screens thag arent useful any help would be appreciated!
Thanks Elite! Yes open the DS emulator (called MelonDS, it’s in the EmuDeck folder from the start menu) and in settings within MelonDS we can configure how we want the screens 👍
I still say the Steam Decks 16:10 aspect ratio OLED screen is the far superior choice for Emulation of systems upto the Gamecube/PS2/Wii & WiiU era. The games scale far better on that ratio than they do on a 16:9 screen. System designed mostly for 4:3 ratio televisions will give far nicer results when using Emulator scaling options.
Great video! Very informative, helped me get set up. The only problem I’m having when I load games is no buttons on my Rog Ally X is working in any game I bolt up. I have it in gamepad mode which is what you mentioned in the video for then controls to work. I’m still having an issue.
Great Jeffrey! Hmm not sure about this, if it’s on Gamepad mode then all buttons should work without us having to configure anything… perhaps restarting? And even reinstalling if still now working… hope you find a fix!
@ I uninstalled it twice or three times and still no fix. Could be the roms maybe ? I really don’t know. The game loads up fine but yeah rog ally set in gamepad mode but every time the game gets to the main menu nothing works no controls .
it would be alot better if at start of video u tell people they have to downloads there own game roms and also give links to find all the bios downloads as well
I’m having an issue where I can get into a game like donkey Kong 2. I can move around but I can’t use any of the A,B,X,Y buttons for in game actions. It just does the emulator stuff like pausing or quitting. Edit: so I fixed that by going to the managing emulators and resetting the configuration button on the retroarch emulator. I think my ally was set to auto and changing it to gamepad helped.
@@PeteTalksTechthank that did help. For ps2, I can get the game to load up but it’s not registering any commands regardless of which control mode it’s in. Other guides have said to manually change the mapping in pscx2. Is there a way to do that from emulation station?
It’s best to do in each individual emulator eg pcsx2, emulators should be in Start Menu, go to EmuDeck and it should when clicked give a drop down for each emulator 👍
I am running into one issue I can’t seem to figure out. After downloading Emudeck and getting a game loaded up. I am stuck on the main menu of that game. Unable to select anything. I can scroll up and down on the menu for start new game, options ect…. But when I hit “A” the game doesn’t start.
@ I appreciate that! Thank you. If it helps any, a user on reddit had mentioned to me it maybe related to adding an Emudeck controller profile. Which I admit I tried to figure out, and am still working on it lol
When I get to the part at 6:10 it says to only parse emulation station but I see in your video you have them all selected *edit* just noticed the pop up I’m talking about is at 5:49 in your video. What do I do?
Hey Sylvester, my next vid will be about Ally X accessories that will be must watch, in terms of sd card any that are A2 standard will be great and I use a Samsung Evo A2 that I highly recommend 👍
hey Pete, I'm stuck on the part where you download the scph 5500,1,2. do you have a link i could download from? im no expert at this stuff and looked up them but i haven't seen anything downloadable or ii'mnot looking at the right places..
Around 8:12, I actually got the hang of doing the ps1 part, but everything els under the switch firmware and over I needed checked off on the list, I was unable to find proper downloadable sites I can use, and there’s almost nothing to copy and I don’t want to mess up anything putting anything in the wrong parts
Ok followed the directions. Maybe i missed something. When I open Emulation Station from Armour Crate the controls do not work. If I open Armour Crate, Game Options, Set Game Profile, Selet Template, Select Gamepad Mode the controls work. I have to do this everytime I open ES-DE. Edit: I have to have steam running in background and then the issue is gone. I missed that part. Edit 2: I was wrong again. If I just go back to AC the controls start working with or without steam running.
Finally got some game to run, but only the analog stick works as far as buts and A button pauses the game . I tried to set controls to gamepad but it won’t save or work.
It just depends on the system games you emulate eg snes roms take up very little, GameCube are not too much, whereas like the latest emulation like PS3 will take up much more 👍
I would recommend just downloading roms on the Ally X using the web browser on device but if you must transfer then you’ll prob need a sd card reader adapter or your pc may have one to just copy and paste onto sd card, then just copy these roms into the correct system folder within the Emulation folder..
Great question Will, it may just be easier to install EmuDeck like in this tutorial as emulators take up very little space, then just point EmuDeck to where all your roms are located 👍
So I followed the guide to a T, which was super helpful. Thanks! I'm having an issue that I can't find clarification on. When I load into a game, with gamepad mode set, whenever I press A it takes a screenshot. I can't for the life of me figure out how to stop this. Tips?
@PeteTalksTech so basically the answer was in armory crate. For some reason the gamepad template has a bunch of nonsense secondary functions assigned to ABXY. I just blew those functions away. Issue solved lol. Press X on ES and configure the game options. From there just manipulate the gamepad template. Hope this helps someone else! Edit: I still do get the following message when launching a game....though it doesn't seem to affect anything. "asus adaptive xbox controller not configured, falling back"
In EmuDeck settings there should be a 16:9 widescreen setting… if this doesn’t work trying going into the ps2 emulator settings itself called PCSX2 and should be able to enable in here 👍
Hello I noticed on your info tab there are pre installed games on a memory card. Would I need to download something for that or is it really plug and play. Also I really would love to emulate switch games would this have those emulators and games? Maybe you can point me to the right direction. Thank you
Hey Morales, yes we need to locate our games (called roms in emulation terms) ourselves using a simple google search… Here’s my Switch guide! 👇 ROG Ally X: Switch Emulation Guide 2024 in 8 Simple Steps | YUZU ua-cam.com/video/_rLOErvrPIg/v-deo.html
How is your Hit and Run showing as 16:9? I set mine to 16:9 in EmuDeck, but it's still showing 4:3. The only way to get 16:9 is to force it using a hotkey, but it stretches and looks bad. What am I missing?
@@PeteTalksTech Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I used the GameCube version of the game and have mine set up just like yours. From what I can tell, most GameCube games are 4:3, so they should all look stretched at 16:9. For some reason yours doesn't appear to look stretched at all. Usually you have to use a code to get 16:9 for that game, so I'm really confused. Do ALL of your Gamecube games show as 16:9 and do any of them look obviously stretched?
I ended up opening Dolphin on its own and selecting 16:9 there. I also checkmarked the Widescreen Hack option, and now it looks great and not stretched!
Great question Dominic! Obviously we need to install it onto the Ally X and go through the steps to configure it on the device, but in terms of finding tons of roms and bios etc all that could be done on a different windows pc/laptop yep!
10:27 When setting up the bios, the only thing I can't get to work is Nintendo Switch. I found the latest firmware and keys, but it's not clear how to place them into the folders to get it to work. So much conflicting info online about whether the firmware must remain zipped. Also there's no Nintendo Switch folder like there was for the other ones. Can you explain the Switch setup in more detail for this?
@@PeteTalksTech Thank you! Just finished watching that link you shared. So I understand correctly - you can no longer use EmuDeck/Station to play Switch games, and that's why you now have to install and launch Yuzu as a totally separate app in Armory Crate? Is that right? When following this original video that I'm commenting on, in Emulation Station in the Bios Checker, there is a sentence in one of the notes staying that "For Nintendo Switch Games, use our pre-made folder" (which I never found) but that makes me think that you can still install/run your emulation through EmuDeck instead of needing to install and run Yuzu completely separately, no?
Ahh we should still be able to run switch games within EmuDeck (like with yuzu), it’s just that yuzu or ryujinx no longer come packaged when we install EmuDeck for the first time, but they should still be supported after we add them ourselves… In settings there’s an option called Alternative Emulators where we can swap between yuzu and ryujinx for switch 👍
@@PeteTalksTech To clarify, is the Alternative Emulator setting in Emudeck or Emulation Station? I found it in Emulation Station, but it already showed Yuzu as my default. It shows my games there but when I try clicking on them, I get an error saying "Rom not found, is Yuzu installed?" In EmuDeck itself, I wasn't able to find that alternative emulator setting at all.
Sooo can you still adjust every games setting according to their emulators? Like for example can you access pcsx2 settings through the app? I'm usually playing these games on their own separate emulators, its a little bit of hassle that way when I'm playing in dock mode, so I've been looking a way to streamline the process a bit and found this emudeck stuff.
@@PeteTalksTech oh well, i guess its still not completely hassle-free, hahaha. Maybe I'm still gonna try this for simpler and lighter emulators like 8bit ,16bit, 32bit era stuff. Anyway, thanks!
Hi, thanks for the amazing video guide. However I did encounter a problem when trying to launch Emulation Station DE from my Armory Crate. All games that I try just don't seem to respond to any of my Ally buttons. Yes, it was on gamepad mode. After some reading I think we need to launch everything from steam so the emulators use steam input. Is this not your case? Were you able to play the games fine when launching the ES-DE from Armory Crate? Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the Guide Coffee! Yes all my buttons seemed fine after doing all the steps incl. Parsing and Saving the games in Steam Rom Manager… Hope you manage to fix!
@PeteTalksTech hi there! Thanks for replying. I ended up setting up my emulators manually, since I don't have that many I want to play. I just use the ES-DE front-end for all emulators and launch them from Armory Crate with my own personal hotkeys and power profile. Quite a hassle setting it up, since I need to check the command prompts and everything, but it's all good now. My only gripe is that I have to manually add Yuzu configs on ES-DE, but there's a lot of them online so I just copy paste.
How much space do I need to have to install Emudeck and all the rooms? Also should I even attempt to use the SD card reader on my OG Ally. I bought it brand new in December.
Great questions Lee, EmuDeck app itself is very small, and ROMs depend on the system - earlier ones like snes are barely any storage, more recent like GameCube is quite a bit more… Personally I wouldn’t recommend using the sd card on the OG Ally unfortunately… 😪
Thanks Lee! Attempt an SD card? I recommend not using one on the OG Ally… 😪 If you are able at some point I’d highly recommend the Ally X, check out my new review! 👇 ROG Ally X: 4 Week HONEST Review ua-cam.com/video/7bdeL7megOg/v-deo.html
@@PeteTalksTech....one more question....I've installed everything to my Ally HDD but now I've got an SD Card 2TB....is there an easy way to migrate everything over to the SD Card or should I uninstall everything and do it over...?
Hi i have a problem i have the games and the artwork and everything but when i boot a game it says "couldn't find emulator retroarch , has it been installed properly? " Any help would be appreciated i can't find anything about it online

Hey matt I don’t really do ps2 emulation - can any viewers help? I’d suggest: 1. perhaps moving the ps2 Rom to c drive instead of sd card for quicker speeds 2. it could be an issue with the Rom so perhaps try another - do other ps2 roms work fine ? 3. Finally just try different configurations within the ps2 emulator Let us know how ya get on!

Very weird??!!
@@JeffreyBivens-wk1ci what games / system are you loading up?
Ive gotten alot of problems with games not loading on Rcps3... corrupted game errors etc , any videos on that??
so i donwloaded starfox adventure but non of my controls work. how do I solve that issue. cause I cant even get past the main manu
it would be alot better if at start of video u tell people they have to downloads there own game roms and also give links to find all the bios downloads as well
Appreciate the feedback but unfortunately us UA-camrs can’t share exactly where to find roms/bios, but a simple google search is all that’s needed…
In Control Mode is it set to Gamepad and not Auto or Desktop?
@@PeteTalksTechthank that did help. For ps2, I can get the game to load up but it’s not registering any commands regardless of which control mode it’s in. Other guides have said to manually change the mapping in pscx2. Is there a way to do that from emulation station?
It’s best to do in each individual emulator eg pcsx2, emulators should be in Start Menu, go to EmuDeck and it should when clicked give a drop down for each emulator 👍
@@PeteTalksTech I think I got it! Thanks for the help!
I am running into one issue I can’t seem to figure out. After downloading Emudeck and getting a game loaded up. I am stuck on the main menu of that game. Unable to select anything. I can scroll up and down on the menu for start new game, options ect…. But when I hit “A” the game doesn’t start.
I’ll look into this Ryan - any other viewers have had this issue? 🤔
What do I do?
what size SD card would you recommend me getting? any brands/model of SD card you would recommend? thanks
Hey Sylvester, my next vid will be about Ally X accessories that will be must watch, in terms of sd card any that are A2 standard will be great and I use a Samsung Evo A2 that I highly recommend 👍
I could not find the NitendoSwitch firmware for bios check. Would you please send me link of it. Thank you so much
hey Pete, I'm stuck on the part where you download the scph 5500,1,2. do you have a link i could download from? im no expert at this stuff and looked up them but i haven't seen anything downloadable or ii'mnot looking at the right places..
Post the timestamp in the vid so I can take a closer look 🤔
Around 8:12, I actually got the hang of doing the ps1 part, but everything els under the switch firmware and over I needed checked off on the list, I was unable to find proper downloadable sites I can use, and there’s almost nothing to copy and I don’t want to mess up anything putting anything in the wrong parts
I think I messed up somewhere, I can't use the built in gamepads only a Xbox controller, how could I fix it?
Ok followed the directions. Maybe i missed something. When I open Emulation Station from Armour Crate the controls do not work. If I open Armour Crate, Game Options, Set Game Profile, Selet Template, Select Gamepad Mode the controls work. I have to do this everytime I open ES-DE.
Edit: I have to have steam running in background and then the issue is gone. I missed that part.
Edit 2: I was wrong again. If I just go back to AC the controls start working with or without steam running.
I always wanted to emulate but my question is, is it true when people say that you can get in trouble with publisher to the point where they can sue?
I haven’t heard of this…
What retro games will YOU play first? Share any EmuDeck tips below! 👇
How long should emudeck take to configure? Seem to be stuck configuring one of the emulators
Should only take a few mins! May need to reinstall as might have glitched out perhaps?
I realized it’s easier to install EmuDeck first, then install every emulator I want one by one. I kept getting stuck when batch installing everything.
where do I get download the bios?
For what switch? Just google firmware and title key for switch
Where do I find Dreamcast and the switch bios?
For some reason, emulation station won’t boot up after the rom manager part. Any ideas?
Not sure Duncan, maybe try to reinstall as may be a glitch somewhere?
Finally got some game to run, but only the analog stick works as far as buts and A button pauses the game . I tried to set controls to gamepad but it won’t save or work.
How much storage did this require I wanna keep this stuff on a separate microSD card
It just depends on the system games you emulate eg snes roms take up very little, GameCube are not too much, whereas like the latest emulation like PS3 will take up much more 👍
How do I get the roms installed on to the sd card via a pc
I would recommend just downloading roms on the Ally X using the web browser on device but if you must transfer then you’ll prob need a sd card reader adapter or your pc may have one to just copy and paste onto sd card, then just copy these roms into the correct system folder within the Emulation folder..
I have trouble finding the nintendo switch bios and deamcast bios. Do you have the link and willing to share?
Question. I have the emulators already and retroach. How can I just add to emulation station?
Great question Will, it may just be easier to install EmuDeck like in this tutorial as emulators take up very little space, then just point EmuDeck to where all your roms are located 👍
amazing guide but how did u mange to display the games like that? i mean moving background and details ?
In settings we can download new themes and it’s called Artflix 👍
@@PeteTalksTech yes i have that and followed every step in the video but when i add games its not like yours
Ah maybe I fiddled about in settings like I think we can choose to add vid previews, the amount of info displayed etc 👍
if you have one of those anbernic / powkiddy Handhelds could the bios from those just be copy and pasted over ?
I haven’t tried but pretty sure so yes Rocky as I’m assuming that uses the same emulators as the Ally! 👍
So I followed the guide to a T, which was super helpful. Thanks!
I'm having an issue that I can't find clarification on. When I load into a game, with gamepad mode set, whenever I press A it takes a screenshot. I can't for the life of me figure out how to stop this. Tips?
Have you set it to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop in Control Mode within Command Centre?
@PeteTalksTech yes I have. Maybe resetting the configuration for each emulators in emudeck would work? Currently pulling my hair out.
Yep defo try resetting configurations and making sure all emulators are updated too, hope you’re able to fix it, let us know how ya get on! 🙌
"asus adaptive xbox controller not configured, falling back"
Ahhh thanks for sharing Sentinels, I’m sure this will really help others! 🙌
My ps2 games aren’t wide screen :/ not sure how to fix..any help? Thanks!
In EmuDeck settings there should be a 16:9 widescreen setting… if this doesn’t work trying going into the ps2 emulator settings itself called PCSX2 and should be able to enable in here 👍
@ okay thank you I figured it out..last this is. It won’t let me save games because it says “memory cards not formatted”
I haven’t encountered this memory card issue, any viewers know?
I can’t seem to get the controller for the ROG x to work. For example the movement stick works but not buttons
Is Control Mode in Command Centre set to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop?
Hello I noticed on your info tab there are pre installed games on a memory card. Would I need to download something for that or is it really plug and play. Also I really would love to emulate switch games would this have those emulators and games? Maybe you can point me to the right direction. Thank you
Hey Morales, yes we need to locate our games (called roms in emulation terms) ourselves using a simple google search…
Here’s my Switch guide! 👇

@ I thought yuza wasnt working anymore thanks will give a try and get back to you.
@ also does emudeck have a switch emulator?
Yuzu still works yep, it’s just no longer being updated…
EmuDeck no longer comes with a switch emulator, we now have to locate ourselves
How is your Hit and Run showing as 16:9? I set mine to 16:9 in EmuDeck, but it's still showing 4:3. The only way to get 16:9 is to force it using a hotkey, but it stretches and looks bad. What am I missing?
Not sure skate, it works perfectly 16:9 when enabled in EmuDeck settings for me, is it the GameCube version you’re using like me?
Awesome skate!!
Can I do all of this on my windows desktop and just put the SD card into my Ally X and go? Or does all steps need to be done on the Ally it’s self?
Great question Dominic! Obviously we need to install it onto the Ally X and go through the steps to configure it on the device, but in terms of finding tons of roms and bios etc all that could be done on a different windows pc/laptop yep!
I think I did every set right but I’ve got no controls for any of the roms I downloaded and idk what I didn’t do correctly
Have ya set control mode in command centre to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop?
I turned off virtual machine setting on my ally x. Is it related to this thing? Thanks
No it’s not related, you’re right to turn off virtual machine to optimise the Ally, this guide is for playing retro games 👍
@@PeteTalksTech thanks, your videos are very helpful
10:27 When setting up the bios, the only thing I can't get to work is Nintendo Switch. I found the latest firmware and keys, but it's not clear how to place them into the folders to get it to work. So much conflicting info online about whether the firmware must remain zipped. Also there's no Nintendo Switch folder like there was for the other ones. Can you explain the Switch setup in more detail for this?
Funny you should ask, I’ve just the guide! 👇

ua-cam.com/video/_rLOErvrPIg/v-deo.html
Ahh we should still be able to run switch games within EmuDeck (like with yuzu), it’s just that yuzu or ryujinx no longer come packaged when we install EmuDeck for the first time, but they should still be supported after we add them ourselves…
In settings there’s an option called Alternative Emulators where we can swap between yuzu and ryujinx for switch 👍
@ awesome thank you I’m going to give that a try then.
@@PeteTalksTech To clarify, is the Alternative Emulator setting in Emudeck or Emulation Station? I found it in Emulation Station, but it already showed Yuzu as my default. It shows my games there but when I try clicking on them, I get an error saying "Rom not found, is Yuzu installed?"
In EmuDeck itself, I wasn't able to find that alternative emulator setting at all.
Great question paperclip, I could be wrong but I think it’s best to change settings within the emulators themselves..
@@PeteTalksTech oh well, i guess its still not completely hassle-free, hahaha. Maybe I'm still gonna try this for simpler and lighter emulators like 8bit ,16bit, 32bit era stuff. Anyway, thanks!
Yes it’s great more for dipping in and out of all our retro games on many different systems rather than configuring them within EmuDeck itself 👍
Ace glad you got it sorted Coffee!
How much space do I need to have to install Emudeck and all the rooms? Also should I even attempt to use the SD card reader on my OG Ally. I bought it brand new in December.
Great questions Lee, EmuDeck app itself is very small, and ROMs depend on the system - earlier ones like snes are barely any storage, more recent like GameCube is quite a bit more…
Personally I wouldn’t recommend using the sd card on the OG Ally unfortunately… 😪
@@PeteTalksTech thank you. Love the videos. Also should I attempt on the OG Ally? Also a 512 GB or 1 TB is your suggestion?
Thanks Lee! Attempt an SD card? I recommend not using one on the OG Ally… 😪

Hey Gravity yes it’s called Citra but it may not be available as part of recent EmuDeck instal files due to Nintendo shutting it down… 😪

Thanks war, yes make sure Control Mode in Command Centre is set to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop 👍
@PeteTalksTech thx for the reply bro but still not working lol been at this since I got my console this past Saturday

pete i have stuttering problem while doing ps2 emulationon the microsd please can you help me?
Hey matt I don’t really do ps2 emulation - can any viewers help? I’d suggest:
1. perhaps moving the ps2 Rom to c drive instead of sd card for quicker speeds
2. it could be an issue with the Rom so perhaps try another - do other ps2 roms work fine ?
3. Finally just try different configurations within the ps2 emulator
