If you put the key in the driver's door and do something like unlock-lock-unlock (can't quite remember), it should unlock all the doors. Worth checking the timing because the 2.2's do like to stretch timing chains until they snap.

To unlock manually without the push buttons.
Insert key into drivers door turn key to unlock then turn key back to insert position then turn key to unlock again and hold in position for a second or 2, you will hear all doors unlock

My recommendation - don't panic, worth doing the cheap checks first. Give it some clean oil and a filter and check the pickup if you don't mind getting under the engine.

I don’t think that sounds unusual. My bet is that injectors need cleaning / or if you’re unlucky then replaced. Step one is pull the codes to give you some direction and given the start up then I’d check the glow plugs with a resistance check - check for 12v+ command.

Was going to say the same, I lost the remote functions on the key fob of my fusion found an article on line, but there it said you may have to cycle the ignition many times so I tried it cycling the switch between 0 (off) and 3 (ignition on) the dash emitted a low beep so locked & unlocked using fob, back to normal, fob also might need a new battery (if you're trying this start by putting a window fully down just in case you lock yourself in and have to let yourself out using the key), looks like it could be tricky with that dodgy ignition switch/lock, on what I saw it doesn't look a bad van though the oil light coming on (was it flickering ---- might benefit from a full service, or just on ---- might be more serious) is a cause for concern.

Having owned 2 my MK7’s for many years have had one for 11 years I’ve had almost every issue haha,
The key charges from the ignition, might just need a good bit of time in the ignition or the battery might just of had it…?
Pretty sure the van wouldn’t start if the key wasn’t coded, the Immobiliser is written into the keys chip when coded… I think!
The smoke “could’ be an intermittent EGR that’s sticking open Occasionally… that would cause white or Black smoke..have had mine replaced twice now. First time it failed it was grey smoke. Then I updated the band ECU firmware then the 2nd time the egr went a few years later the van puffed out thick black smoke hahaha I put a genuine Ford egr on it now the 2 before were cheep ones…
The SCV and PRV valves can cause weird issues with these engines if the SCV isn’t calibrated. Would also cause weird starting issues rough running. Here of lots of folks just putting SCV’s on and not calibrating them. Fords IDS dose this and a few good code readers too. Ps both the SCV and PVR are on the front, easy to get to! On the RWD they are in a crap place haha
The knock could a pair of injectors or maybe just one, could be excessively loose then oil might be making its way down and lots off blow by will make its way up the cam cover and blow oil down the breather pipe to the turbo. That will cause some smoking. Looking at the top the top oil seals are definitely gone! Also don’t use the old copper washers on the injectors use new genuine Ford ones!
Might be good to check the turbo for excessive play, oil seals may be on there way out and oil passing into the intake side!
If you haven’t already get yourself on the TransitFourm. Fab resource on these vans and lots of the issues you have are well documented on there!
Shame your not up north Wales I could get it on my IDS, and do all the calibrations……
Looks a good little van and worth reviving as long as the knocking isn’t terminal!
Ps, Get its codes read before you do any more to the engine. If you sort the knock etc get the PRV, injectors learns done and it should get it running really nice!
    Tats JB

I know a guy who buy this van Terry Marx.. he offered me £1000 for my 14 plate.. so not sure what he give for yours id guess more as there sought after vans.. I phoned up a big dealership in Eastbourne about mine.. They told me from the description of mine I was told circa £9500.
The MOT guy said my van was a very tidy example have to agree..
Mine is partly servicing and Two front tyres and a really good valet..
Thousand pound what planet that guy on.. You always have to admire a trier..
Really depressed me over it.. As I still owed £5000+ at the time..
A joke is a joke but I don't think he was joking..
That van has a set of chub like locks on it.. for security so If you got that key surely those doors will open..
