  • After a couple months away so we could bring you our 1st-time Dark Souls playthrough, Sports Saturday is BACK!
And what better way to get it rolling than to return to the college hardwood and check out one of the last NCAA-licensed basketball franchises of the early 2000s. Like they had done with the NFL, ESPN made a concerted effort to expand their standing as the 'Worldwide Leader in Sports,' with basketball video games.
This was their first attempt, and while it's far from a perfect game, there's a lot of potential to be found thanks to multiple play options and a deep roster of schools to choose from. Unfortunately, the mechanics and forced perspective let it down, but we manage to still have an exciting showdown in the NCAA Tournament!

Funny how Northwestern got a #1 seed while the team that produced 2 NBA Players including long time NBA player Jared Dudley (he’s #3 off the bench) was a 16th seed

That's something I noted when I saw Kentucky being one of the 'Play in' teams. In 2003, they were a #1 seed and made it to the Elite 8, but lost to Marquette.
I've been watching the Tournament for 45 years and can't recall them being any lower than a 5-seed.
That the computer seems to randomize the seeding for all teams makes for interesting gameplay though.
