  • How to make sourdough bread Recipe Beginners Guide Sonya's Prep
I have wanted to make my own sourdough bread for so long but was always hesitant because I heard of how long it takes to make. I finally got the courage to just jump right in and do it after Passover this year. I haven’t been able to get enough of it ever since. The very first loaf I ever made was really not that great to say the least 🙈. But ever since then I have been researching and tweaking the recipe. Hope you enjoy this tutorial.
If you haven’t seen the starter recipe tutorial yet, here is a link:
    👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
How to Make Sourdough Starter Recipe Step By Step Guide
    • How to Make Sourdough ...
    Recipe:
    100g leaven
    450g white wheat bread flour
    50g whole wheat flour
    350g water
    10g salt
    Process:
-Remove sourdough from fridge and feed it equal parts flour and water. 1:1:1 set it aside to rise until doubled in size which shouldn’t take more than 3-6 hours.
-After doubling place into a clean bowl 100g of starter, 450g bread flour, 50g whole wheat flour and 350g water. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
-Add 10g of salt to the dough and incorporate with wet hands. Cover and let it rest for around 10-15 minutes.
-Do around 3 stretch and folds in 30 minute increments.
-leave the dough on the counter for 6 hours to rise.
-Shape your dough into a ball and set aside to rest for 10 minutes.
Reshape and place into banetons. Refrigerate for about 6 hours before baking this is called the autolyse cold fermentation.
-Preheat oven with the Dutch oven inside for 20 minutes at 500F.
-In the meantime, place Sourdough bread onto parchment paper and score and decorate as you like. This will release steam from the bread.
-Carefully place scored Bread into the hot Dutch oven and bake for 25 minutes on 500F covered with a cover.
-After 25 minutes uncover the pot and bake for an addition 25 minutes at 450F.

@@SonyasPrep by the way In Tunisia we make homemade pasta with sour dough starter . We use that pasta to make soup with it. Called hlalem and the sourdough starter gives the soup a delightful sour taste as if you put lemon juice in the soup. So yummy. Didn’t have it since I was a kid . I’m 37 now lol . I’m gonna try to make your sourdough recipe and make that pasta again .

    Hi Sonya,
i've been wanting to try my hand at sourdough forever. I'm in 12th grade and love cooking. I came across your channel before Rosh Hashana and I made your potatoes, rice, and pomegranate chicken for my family for the Chag. Everyone loved it. My biggest hit so far has been your sourdough recipe I made for sukkot. It was a huge hit and a very big accomplishment for me! I turned my Ima and aunt onto your channel, too. Keep sending us yummy and easy recipes. We love your clear instructions and your food is sooo tasty!

Bravo Sonya! In Germany we eat a lot of rye bread, this you should try. It stays moist for days and is really yummi. You need a rye starter (can start with your wheat starter). The bread recipe is 400g rye starter, 600g flour (Mix 200g rye and 400g bread flour), 18g salt and 360g water. Dough is really sticky, after 3h strech and form and let rest in a basket for 2h. Bake in a Pot on highest heat for 10min, lower Temperature to 200celsius, 1h Total baking

Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe! I’ve been using it for at least a year and my bread always turns out delicious, crunchy and chewy. I love how you encourage to use whatever you have in your kitchen instead of running to Amazon to purchase another gadget. When I was younger I suffered with functional fixedness, I thought I needed to have exactly the tools in order for a recipe to turn out. Thank God wisdom comes with a bit of age and gray hair 🤣

Thanks so much for sharing! I never knew you can make bread so easily without a bread machine or a mixer with dough hook! I'm definitely going to try this because I loved making bread and love sourdough.
In the South, this bread is commonly called "Friendship Bread" as we will share our starter with a friend who wants to make their own sourdough. It is a thoughtful gift to give some home made soughdough bread with a bit of the starter done up in a nice basket.
PS You only want to use the oil for the final kneading/shaping. It does work wonderfully well.

Although I'm in the middle of a move, I'm planning on making starter and attempting sourdough boules as soon as possible. I have a couple of questions should you have time...lol! It's actually about your challah which I've made for years. I heard on one video how you prefer the six strand loaf - me too! It became addictive practicing and perfecting! Is there a reason you don't use eggs? Finally, do you host every Shabbat and holidays? So much gorgeous, delicious food! My sincerest applause for all you do and the fabulous way you do it. The patience, effort and expertise is incredible. What a lucky family to have you.

They look amazing and I had absolutely no idea what was involved in making this bread! It’s a few day process - you have some patience!
I wanted to ask in your food prep videos about the aluminum pans and lining them.
You are using parchment paper right? What made you start doing that and do you feel it’s much easier on clean up? Do you rinse and reuse the pans? I love the idea especially since when cooking so much it’s exhausting to have to deal with so many serving dishes afterwards especially after Shabbat you want to relax with your family.

Generally, parchment papers are used for temperatures upto 450F. It seems it is safe to use at 500F and not burn. Which brand do you use? Thank you for sharing this video and also linking everything!

SD is the best! I love making buns, hamburger buns, hot dog buns and more with it. Plus it’s solder easy to make pizza dough and freeze it. Makes for quick dinners when busy. Also can I ask where you got your glue on nails from? I haven’t seen any exactly like those. They don’t look weird like some

Hello Sonya. You're a great cook. So I'm wondering if it would be possible to make a video showing your favorite kitchen and pantry staples from which you can make many different dishes. Thanks.

You are an inspiration. I don’t even know many women who keep Shabbos like this, because of work! But do other things such as have 2 dishwashers to keep dishes separate or pick up kosher foods to eat instead of cooking. You have a lot of energy! My kids are getting older now, and I would like to instill some traditions for Shabbos as we haven’t been very observant since we don’t live in an area with many Jewish people. I love making bread so I will start with this and some of your other recipes. You have a soothing way about you so hopefully I could become a little more soothed by practicing a routine.

It’s definitely harder when you aren’t a part of a community…. But there is so much you can do to instill small traditions that will be lasting memories.

@@SonyasPrep yes, I agree! Your tips could help so many busy women become more organized and healthy. I already bought the sourdough starter kit and some better storage containers to make food ahead. Thanks for the inspiration :)

The quality of homemade food items is far superior to the product you're buying in the store.
My neighbor had purchased a Challah bread from the restaurant, it tasted like a clay and caused heartburn.
Thank you for sharing your cooking skills and GOD bless you!
