did you notice the ending credits where eren and mikasa were buried, an old man armin still visiting their graves. he was the last to die from the trio. just like when they were kids running towards the tree, he was the last one who reached the tree.

That last shot of Ymir imagining herself with her daughters and King Fritz dead by the spear is her realizing that like Mikasa did with Eren, she had to let go for the greater good. Apparently Ymir needed to see Mikasa do it to give her the resolve to finally let go and pass on.

Before watching your reaction, I would like to point out the fact that Armin was the narrating the whole anime and that Eren did say 'it was Armin who would save the world' in the famous episode in season 3. The ending was already foreshadowed from the episode 1. Now I shall enjoy watching your reaction!

Also the fact that we start the story with the info that 80% of humanity died and the remaining live inside the walls. And now 80% of humanity has indeed died. Maybe the past and future really do occur simultaneously 😮

I, as a mangar reader, needed this reaction, Dapper. When I was watching the episode last night I already knew what would happened so it didn´t affect me AS much as it would if I´ve had seen it for the first time in the anime. So the emotional catharsis I needed, the tears I needed to shed, that´s only happening right now thanks to you, man. I´ve been following you through this journey since the very beggining and seeing you cry made me cry with you. Thank you for allowing me to process my emotions and this ending. The ending was a perfect portrayal of reality, war will never end, there will always be a conflict, even if one side gets completely wiped out, in a few centuries, there will be a evil person born who want to control the world and cause chaos, But that does not mean you should give up trying to stop it, even if nothing changes, even if its meaningless, You have to fight, fight for the present, fight for your future, it doesnt matter whats the result, what matters is the present time you live in, dont lose hope just because its impossible to end wars, just fight and move forward, Thats what Eren's "TATAKAE" meant, it didnt meant to wipe people or cause a genocide but "TATAKAE" because you are free.
Honestly with whats happening around the world right now, this episode got released at the best time possible

I've been along for the ride since the AOT anime started in 2013. It was my first anime. AOT has been with me for half of my life. It had an enormous impact on me as a person. Even though I read the manga while it was going on it never really felt "over" to me until now. And it's so surreal now that it is. It feels like yesterday I was 12 years old theorizing about the titans and playing AOTTG with my friends. Attack on Titan was truly peak fiction and I'm glad it was a part of my life.

  • @rei-ef6xm

As bleak as the ending is, my personal takeaway is that even though the cycle of violence and hatred will always continue, we have to try our best to not perpetuate it and if we can’t we have to keep trying regardless of what the outcome may be. It’s been repeated throughout the series that human conflict will never cease. There’s a devil in all of us; we’re all capable of violence. So what do we do? We escape the forest and even if we can’t we have to keep trying. I believe that's what the scouts were trying to do. Because remember, they actually had a hand in furthering the Rumbling by helping Eren get to Zeke. Aot has always been about making choices that one thinks they will regret the least. They just didn’t wanna regret not stopping an omnicide. The scouts represent what the Survey Corps stands for and what, I hope, we all stand for: fighting against insurmountable odds for even the slightest chance of an unrealistic idealist world.

Interesting fact: In the manga, when Levi killed Zeke, he had a very empty look to him. Like, after so many friends lost, after so many years looking forward to killing him, when it finally happened, Levi looked like he felt nothing after doing it, kinda broken by that feeling even. To this day, that scene hits me like quite a punch in the gut.

The deepest thing in all of this was when Ymir faded she was able to realize if she had done the same thing as Mikasa did and let King Fritz die from that spear, she couldve lived with her children. She was a slave for love and that was what her freedom wouldve looked like and funny thing is the show did a really good job of showing us that she wouldnt have been able to make that decision on her own or know what that it was possible and she needed Mikasa to show her that outcome for all her life she only knew about the life of a slave

in the manga, a voice saying "see you later eren" was included in the flashes
in the anime, there were no voices in his nightmare

I may have made a slight mistake, but here are the lyrics to the last song.
Two thousand years... or... 20,000 years from now
I do not know the name of the flower of mourning
Plants and trees sprout in the traces left by the island that flew away
Spring will come again this year
    leaving winter behind
I sing of my bitterness at the seasons that come and go
but you will never come back
I'm the one who dyed the last kiss red
    It was no one else
The warmth that wraps my shivering neck
I will face this cold again and again
Your repeated words to fight and fight
    still echo constantly, still echo.
The peaceful days that time has brought
Like the flowers I sent to you
The hidden words pass away without telling anyone
    Requiem, Requiem
On the coffin I give the flowers you loved
If you forgive my sins, let the dawn shine
The world broke the boy's sword
Beyond that, he'll reach the top of the skyscraper
And look down with laughter to build the tower of Babel
Hatred and worry are a double-edged plain
    History repeats itself
Let the earth be filled with the desire to give birth and multiply
Release the birds of steel into the sky
Freedom is the arrow of the red lotus
And it repeats itself over and over again
I can't throw away the stone I'm throwing back
We timidly look up at the sky
The underworld's arrow that resembles a meteor
    History repeats itself
    And it's zero again
Can you hear me? Out of the woods
No matter how many times we lost our way
Even in the burnt fields, plants and trees have sprouted
The shadows and lights of fate
I saw everything in the sea of big trees
    What do you know?
To you 2000 or 20,000 years from now

Literally I can't imagine with this ending how it could've been so divisive with the manga. That is a through and through top tier ending!

i love how the continuation of war and destruction was kept even though the power of titans vanished. as said in the song playing in the outro "die geschichte wiederholt sich" meaning "history repeats itself"

I think it’s also just similar to how actual war veteran survivors felt after fighting WWI - this war was supposed to be the war to end all wars and that was for nothing too because on the heels came WWII and genocide. Like this ending crushed me because it is a real depiction of true humanity.

What makes even more depressed is that Eren from the beggining had friends and loved one. I didn't had this opportunity in my childhood because i was hated because of my appearience (i have asperger syndrome). No one liked me. My family supported me till this day. But anyway i was this till 2023 because from that year i have started watching anime and i think that this ending was really moving my heart. I was hating anime but my friends said to me to give it a chance. And it was worth it. It is the best anime by far i have ever watched. My fist was Jujustu Kaisen.
