For those who don't know, Satella didn't control Emilia, it was just that Emilia try the trials so many times without anyone to support her that she lose her mind and would do anything to avoid Subaru for leaving her side again😢
Yea she went through the trial over and over again failing over and over again puck left her side and then subaru also went away there was no one else and she has come to depend on subaru soo much he comes everytime to save her support her but this time he was away she goes mad over the fact she's left alone and tries to be the lover subaru wants soo he wouldn't leave and act like a crazy gf that most of us have in our life😂

Roswall knows subaru can rewind time, the problem is that he isn't aware of the how. So he does't kill subaru because he believes subaru can rewind time by thinking alone or smt of the sort.
edit: Roswall believes subaru will become invincible if he starts to think like roswall ( have no heart ), wich will help roswall with his plans. He isn't really wrong with this reasoning, but like whats the point of being invinvible if you don't have wishes or will of your own, its like being the strongest but not having anything to protect.
Greed IF and Pride IF novels actually go that route, Subaru becomes like Roswall or kind of and basically becomes bat shit crazy like in Greed IF

Otto left subaru, reinhard feels abandoned and always looks sad, emilia never passed the trial so she heavily relies on him, ram never became close to subaru again, subaru became an inhuman monster who don't Value his life and die for small insignificant details and also often have panic attacks. Only roswaal was satisfied in this route

One of my favorite episodes of season 2 just because last episode everything was going well and now this loop is straight out of “hell” no pun intended
What Beatrice meant was to overwrite her contract and to make Betty Subaru’s priority

The reason why Roswaal is beating Subaru is he knows Subaru can restart but he doesn’t know it’s his death that’s triggers the Return By Death so he was trying to make Subaru reset by punching him

A couple of clarifications.
Roswaal doesn’t know that Subaru has to die to reset, and thankfully he doesn’t-imagine if he found that out. He’d probably try to kill Subaru over and over, so it’s a good thing Subaru still has that secret.
Roswaal’s little monologue is him basically saying: I don’t care if it’s not “me” doing it, as long as eventually, in another timeline my goal is fulfilled. That’s absolutely insane.
As for the snow, Roswaal made it snow (somehow) using magic. Since the Great Rabbit is attracted to large amounts of mana, magic strong enough to change the weather would obviously bring them there. Roswaal did this because he was following the “Gospel”, which basically told him “if you do this, then your goal will be realized”.
The first paragraph is exactly why he is forbidden to tell anyone

Roswaal would have a disadvantage in a close ranged fight against garfiel because roswaal’s magic is more suited for long ranged fights while garfiel is BUILT for close ranged combat, plus him being injured could be a factor as well.
Yeah, Ros is just a squishy mage at 1/4 health with no tank or healer getting plowed over by an elite boss.
Plus, anyone in a fight against Garf needs to seriously wound him before he gets his transformation going, or they're going to have an uphill battle. The speed, power and reach or his giant form is a lot to account for in a world where traumatic injuries cause shock, blood loss and limb damage, instead of just HP loss.

Emilia stayed there feeling alone and abandoned as both Puck and Subaru left her, in that state continously failing the trail drove her to an insane dependence on Subaru because from her point of view no matter how bad the situation is as long as Subaru is there everything always ends up fine, she never sees his failed loops. The Psychological term for this is axcious attachment.

One thing I want to clarify is that it is now confirmed in the light novel that Roswaal does not know how Subaru's Return-by-death works. He only knows that Subaru can go back in time. He doesn't know that Death is the trigger to it. That's why he beats up Subaru instead of killing him. To force him to go back in time

After roswaal got eaten by those rabbits, they moved for subaru. Subaru desperate gets help from the clones of ryuzu where they suicide attacks them. The villagers burn themselves alive in the church coz they don't wanna get eaten by rabbits

It's also worth mentioning that emilia had a mental breakdown this time. She wasn't possessed. She got emotionally tortured in the trial. So when puck wasn't there she only saw light on subaru

Now it makes sense why Roswaal made Ram tell Subaru that Frederica's suspicious. He probably wanted to make sure Subaru would go to the mansion and learn of the attack
all your questions are resolved with a single sentence: it's Roswal's fault...! The fact that Emilia became a little crazy and dependent on Subaru is because Roswal isolated her from the people of the town and the sanctuary by making it snow to blame her, due to the fact that by using a spell that requires a large amount of Mana, she attracts to the great rabbit.
By the way, I think it's obvious who hired Elsa, and miliet and gave them information about the mansion and Betty's spell...
and who hired them when they attacked the first time Subaru met Emilia, when they stole his badge and who organized the attack of the Ma-beasts in the village forest. Anyway, Roswal deserves a real beating...
This season is complete madness. Just when you think it cant get any worse for Subaru, we see one more problem pop up every episode.

A fun fact about Re:Zero's world is that there is no "English" dialect there. during this episode Roswaal says: "Considering the future you and i share, this may not be a very **SMART** way to do things." and continues to ask if he used the word right. he probably learnt that word from Subaru's instance in the mansion and now is using it to make fun of him, which is kinda funny lol.

Back in season one when emilia died in subarus arls when he told her about return by death, beatrice told him that she didnt want to see hom doe and teleported him outside the mansion, thats because thats all she wanted..... To die... But here she sees everyone around her dying and cant do so herself coz of the contract

I got to be honest I really don't remember that part but edited now just in case I guess.
There's a mini-stories series called: "Re:Zero ~Starting Break Time From Zero~ 2" which adds some details and unknown coversation to the main story.
In the 11th ep. it's showed a conversation between Elsa and Meili where Elsa explain there are 2 options to act, when someone is near to the death: fight or accept it.
Subaru didn't show any change, as he knew there was something beyond death.
Elsa judged him not worthy of the disembowelment and cut off his eye.
(15:30) No it is Yandere Emilia (lost her sanity due to the trials). I don't know how many people still think it's Satella.
A little later, Subaru explains what actually happened to Emilia. You've also heard in past episodes that Emilia says Subaru and Satella says Subaru-kun.

roswall knows subaru can redo stuff but he doesnt know how. he doesnt know that involves subaru dying, so roswall messes up everything and beats up subaru so badly that now he knows that subaru will have to reset . also roswaal is injured plus he used a hugeee amount of mana to summon the snow, he is the best magic user but it still takes a ton of mana to do so. but nonetheless garfield is strong. elsa, maylie, bunnies, roswaal, emilia losing her mind, puck gone off to get the milk, trials, santuary, garfield, betty's mental health issues, echidna, satella, oh boy..... subaru kinda has his hands full

It always surprises me how many things about the plot you're able to guess half-correct 😅
As for Emilia, the reason she behaved like that was because she lost her sanity due to taking the trials too many times, which mentally broke her, and since Subaru's letter never reached her, she assumed he abandoned her, meaning she thought she lost the only person who was always there for her to support and comfort her.
Every obstacle subaru encountered till now are one way or another all together in this loop
Amazing reaction. few things as always lots of cut context/details from anime and few major cuts .
To elaborate on the Emilia being mentally broken thing, there's a lot of things that were cut out especially for the first cour of the 2nd season because of time issues. Basically what happened after Subaru left was that someone took his letter away and Emilia tried to look for him, thinking that he had left her just like Puck. The snow happened and like Roswaal had explained, Garfiel along with the villagers condemned her because of her uncanny resemblance to the witch. As a result, she attempted the trial over and over and over again without any food or rest because she wants to break the barrier so that she can go out and find Subaru. She attempted it until her mind just snapped (you alr saw what it does to her each time she goes in).
And to highlight just how broken she really was, even at the end when she kissed him as Subaru dies, she was just thinking of doing everything she can just so that Subaru wouldn't leave her, not wanting to be 'abandoned' again. Also, it was cut out in the episode but Subaru used the Ryuzu clones to blow up some of the rabbits, clearing the path but like you can see, he didn't manage to escape unscathed. And while on the way to Emilia, Subaru saw that the people had hid themselves in the church and they had decided to kill themselves by starting a fire and burned alive rather than to be food to the rabbits. The hubris is real subaru saying "i know hell".
Roswaal is much much Stronger than garfiel.....its just that he's heavily injured and more importantly is in close quarters melee range where garf had advantage...Now healing magic exists we saw emilia/felix/rem use it but its THE only one spell roswaal can't use..powers in re zero are very tied to emotion it's said that you need to have certain level of compassion and kindness to use healing magic.
Power scaling in general in re:zero doesn't a work a character S tier in power ranking can be defeated by B tier well prepared opponent in good circumstances like ELSA...although some times the gap is just too large like reinhard.
Roswaal knowing how certain evens should playout from book + his observation of subaru he knows that subaru can loop but doesn't know he needs to die, so he beats/abuses subaru forcing him to restart and says "i Can't kill you but there other things i can do,am i wrong ?" yeah he's wrong lol he actually needs to die also the reason satella hasn't appeared.(satella part my own conclusion)
Snow is artificial made from mana that's why rabbits are attracted...and this is not random you already saw it in memory snow. and that's why subaru comments on it.
AS always i love re:zero for exploring the negative emotions/themes so much it really sets is apart because of it and makes the postive thematics and payoff more worth it.

About Betty:
She doesn't want to be special to Subaru, she wants to be special to "that person", who is that person it doesn't matter.
Her real wish is to break free from her contract, but she can't do it alone. So she decided after 400 years waiting that she would rather die than keep her contract.
A spirit can kill itself, so even with that drastic decision she must wait for someone else to do it.
If you remember every single time that Subaru could die in the mansion, Betty saved him after know him a little better.
Betty saved Subaru when Ram thought Subaru knew about Rem's death by the dog bite because he was only relying on Betty to stay alive, she was special.
Betty saved Subaru from the dog bite's curses.
When Subaru killed Emilia telling about his return by death, Subaru begged Betty to kill him, and she teleported him away, because it was kinda cruel asking for death to someone who wants to die and it can't.
Even in this season Betty wouldn't let Subaru die in front of her and be the next one to abandon her.
Betty fears to be alone more than anything and that's why she "only" acknowledges Puck as a spirit who lives for so long and will continue living on.

Seeing Betty cry hits so hard poor girl I just want to comfort her because she has been thru so much especially being contracted and stuck there just waiting in the library for "that person". Seeing her fight was pretty awesome though! I have to agree with you Luke that Subaru has gone thru hell and probably the most traumatic experiences because he never forgets the different events he goes back to returning by death its an infinite amount of nightmares he goes thru. And if this series wasn't dark enough well the ending sure made sure to remind you, Luke.

Roswaals goal is mystery for now, but basically Roswaal knows that Subaru can time loop, but he doesn't know full details. He doesn't know that Subaru has to die to do it. Beating crap out if him was to achieve his goal which will be revealed soon.

What you are seeing this episode is a broken Emilia who is desperate for love. Every time Subaru has gone to the mansion this seaon Emilia has likely broken like we saw here.

Remember back in Season 1 during the first mansion restart where Subaru intentionally did his best to completely retrace his steps, and ended up randomly running into Roswall in the bath where you commented on the sound effects as he gyrated back and forth? This is why he randomly deviated from the first time.
i think garfield was angry about Subaru who say that Emilia love him, because at that moment he already thinking that Subaru is a witch cultist and yes in a CLOSE RANGE combat garfield win, he can beat anybody in Emilia clan i thinks. But add more distance than in a ring and Roswall win 100%
his first was emilia so she meant litterally. and well, subaru was just shocked by the whole thing, of course he will.
Emilia's mind broke due to her isolation combined with going through her 1st trial over and over again.
Roswaal knows Subaru can turn time back, but he doesn't know how, so he wouldn't risk killing Subaru.
About his comment about the next Roswaal not being himself, take it less literally, but there is a whole debatw to be had about the logistics of time leaps and the people unaware of them.
There were hints about why Elsa survives fatal magic strikes before, as far back as the first season actually.
As someone with Meyer as his last name, this is my favorite arc in the show and this is one of the best episodes in this arc in my opinion. Hype is real. And afterwords imma read Unnatural, written by Luke Fitzpatrick

25:00 so to explain this book better its basically instructions to lead the owner to their dearest wish (the witches cults gospel being a defective version is probably becuase they say people who get it get brainwashed or something from when subaru first saw it after killing sloth the first time) so its possible beatrice's went blank when she started wanting to die

now 4 points to explain here :
1- betty is bound by a contract which she can't overwrite herself and she can't kill herself to end it, which is why she needs Subaru(or anyone) to kill her and and thus end the contract.
2- Roswaal knows Subaru can go back in time somehow but doesn't know how or the trigger for it (which is Subaru's death) which is why he was beating the shit out of him but stated he doesn't want him dead, he was trying to push him to trigger Return by Death by beating him into submission when he said ''even after all this beating you still won't restart'', ironically he avoided killing him which was the only way to restart.
3- we're not sure what happened to emilia in details, what is implied by Roswaal is that she was ''pushed to the limit'' getting isolated keeps failing the trial and she ended up broken and starts acting weird.
4- when Roswaal is saying ''you can restart but I can't I'll die here, but there will be another me'' or something along these lines...
he was implying, subaru can restart, and will remember what happened here but Roswaal won't, so everything that was transpired here Roswaal won't be aware of it, so it's like it ''won't be me, this Roswaal here, it will be another me who isn't aware of all this'' cuz only Subaru is time leaping and only Subaru can remember other timelines even tho Roswaal knows that subaru has the ability to restart.
That was not the witch, it was just an incredibly broken Emilia. She went through the trial so many times she got broken.
Some things to clear up again.
It is in fact Emilia not Satella.
Roswaal explained that he did a lot to isolate Emilia and make her alone. After Puck not being there the only thing that kept her sane was Subaru and he left. You see what one trial did to her mental state and she did it over and over and over again in those 2 days where no one was there for her. That just completely broke her and she went mental.
As for Puck its not explained directly why Puck does not show himself. But remember back to very early in the season Puck was talking to Subaru next to Rem and Puck told Subaru to take care of Emilia before vanishing.
Beatrice can die but she is incapable of suicide. And you are almost correct when it comes to her wish. "That person" is someone that finally frees her and basically kills her. She said she wants Subaru to make her number 1 which he cant because his nr1 is Emilia and since Subaru cannot give his all to Betty she wants him to atleast be "that person" to finally kill her.
Also Roswaal knows that Subaru can start over somehow but he clearly doenst exactly know why. He specifically said he cannot kill Subaru because he wants him to start over. This directly implies that Roswaal only knows about a restart but not that its triggered by Subaru dying. Thats why he beat him up and threw him to the rabbits to make him restart basically.
As for Roswaals wish it was said in season one that his wish/goal is to kill the dragon that reigns over luginica (the kingdom they are in). If that is his dearest wish or not we dont know this far into the story.
You said it might have something to do with the Witch of Envy. I wont comment on that theory to not spoil anything or not but you need to remember one key detail that was mentioned already.
They are in the Sanctuary which is another name for the Graveyard of the Witch of GREED Echidna. And he said that his family is in charge of guarding this grave for 400 years already.
So while we dont know yet if/what connection roswaal has to Satella we very well know that he or lets say his family has a very strong connection to the witch of greed atleast

The biggest telling sign (at least for those that somewhat understand spoken Japanese) that Emilia was NOT the witch in this scene : She called him Subrau instead of how the witch does (Subaru-kun) and the "I love you" was a different sort than the one that Envy uses

One thing I've been thinking over the years is how did Roswaal discovered about Subaru's Return by Death. I'm not sure if the novel covers it since I'm still reading Arc 3, but the only way of knowing is by observing Subaru's actions, in which Roswaal was always away from any major event, while the only achievements Subaru has under his name is the subjugation of the White Whale and the defeat of the Sin Archbishop of Sloth.
I'm reading both novel and web novel at the same time, I bought volumes 1-10 and I'm still at volume 4, while trying to catch up to the web novel as I'm now in Arc 5 (next season).

Rosswald wants Subaru to abandon his emotions for everything but Emilia so he can manipulate him easier to obtain his one and only goal.
The reason Elsa slashed Subaru’s eye is because She hated the look in Subaru’s eyes. When she saw Subaru’s eyes she saw that Subaru was already planning ahead of his death.(He was thinking this was the end for this loop and already started planning for the next loop) It’s an abhorent way of thinking that even Elsa was disgusted from the way Subaru was looking for a future that was not there.
Emilia didn’t get possessed by Satella. She was mindbroken from being alone and going through the trials multiple times. Without Puck or Subaru, She was swallowed in her trauma without any pillar in her life.
Roswaal doesn’t actually know about Return by Death. The tome of wisdom only told Roswaal that Subaru has the ability to “Redo” things. So Roswaal thinks Subaru can loop back with his will. He doesn’t know about the conditions(Dying). That’s why Roswaal beat the shit out of Subaru, he tried Subaru to loop back with force.
Also the way Subaru escaped from the great rabbit was cut in the anime, Subaru used the Ryuzu clones as suicide bombers while he tried to get back to Emilia. While he was trying to get back to Emilia he saw the church that the villagers were staying on fire. Then Subaru had come to conclusion that the Villagers have chosed to burn alive than get eaten alive by the rabbits. It was a mass suicide.
Also the ending was Subaru’s first ever kiss in his life…
You might be forgetting it but in one of the episodes during Season 1 Roswaal states his goal and it's tied to the Dragon that provides for the country they reside in. The Dragon that made a pact with the royal family who died and Emilia is seeking to take over. Roswaal know's that time or history is repeating itself and it's tied to Subaru as the book is telling him what is happening but he doesn't know the why. It's like reading a book that explains in graphic detail how version of you are dying over and over that you have no memory of. Imagine having a conversation with someone knowing that you've had this conversation before but you can't remember it though they can. The ability to not only navigate that but to actually manipulate while being so on the back foot is a testament to Roswaal's intelligence and planning.

Put me first. Beako asks that because if someone dedicates their whole life to the other, they can actually null their contract. However Subaru can't do that. He has other responsibilities and priorities.

Just a clarification roswaal knows suburu loops ... but not that he returns by death.... thats why he starts beating him up to encourage subaru to use his looping ability and says he cant kill him
The most important trait about Beatrice that is important to remember is that despite her age and existence as a great spirit she is and always will be a child at heart, because that's the static nature of her existence as a spirit emulating a human child. A nature she has no capacity to change. Why this is so important is because it explains just what she means by wanting to be put first. She's not looking for romantic love but instead the kind of secure familial love one would give a child. She basically wants to be cared for and made the first priority in much the same way an abandoned child wants to be because Beatrice has felt alone and abandoned for 400 years. She wants to be put first so that she will never be forgotten or left alone ever again.
So intense is this desire to never be alone ever again and so traumatized is she by these 400 years of isolation that if she can't be given absolute certainty of someone putting her first, to effectively guarantee that she'll never face that horrible loneliness again, she would simply rather die.
Roswaal doesn't want that Subaru kills himself, he just doesn't know that death is the thing that activates Return by death. That's why he is beating him instead of killing him. He thinks that killing him would prevent the time rewinding.

getting a little bit of time to watch a video or 2, hasnt been the easiest christmas this year, thankfully no passings, but hard in its own way, but what doesnt kill you makes you stronger right? (and in subaru's case, if it kills you, and you reset, it turns you into a raving lunatic sometimes lol) wish everyone well, and drink responsibly on new years!

Important Difference: It is not "Return *to* Death" but "Return *by* Death".
Roswaal may know that Subaru can return, but he's not aware how. So he thought just by thrashing Subaru he'd make him willingly return by himself. So he may know Subaru's Secret, but not really all of it.
Betty *can* die, she just said she can't kill herself.
And Emilia... Subaru left her a Letter to explain himself, which mysteriously vanished. So to Emilia, the only Person she relied on and trusted just disappeared without a Word. So she thought Subaru had stopped believing and left her. In Desperation she attempted the Trial over and over again, and as you know from various previous Scenes, it's very hard on her. So eventually after forcing herself through it again and again, her Mind simply broke.
So she didn't even comment on Subaru missing an Eye or being heavily injured, or dying, instead just giving him the "Kiss of Death" as it's called (it's not a Spoiler, but just keep it in Mind for later if you want). To Subaru, this Timeline was among the very worst he ever experienced, and Emilia talking to him like that was pure Hell.
I think including this Episode it only goes harder from now on, so I really can't wait for more! :)
