Something strange is happening with the Mavericks. During their 7-0 run, they had an amazing rating, they were #1 in defense, #5 in offense and the #1 net rating. During the 7 games from February 5 - 22, they had a 104.5 defense rating, and now from February 25 to today, they have a 125.6 defense rating. Now they have the worst defense in the league. It's not right that when the opposing team has an 11-0 run, or even a 30-0 run, that Kidd doesn't call a time out. It's not right when you have motivated players who are playing great in the minutes they are allotted and the Mavericks are holding a connection or even a lead because of their good play, Kidd sends them to the bench and later, even though they would like to help their team win, Kidd doesn't put them back in the game with the excuse that he has to spread the minutes between everyone, so are minutes more important than wins??? Something is wrong.

Y'all act like the Mavs have one of the best rosters in the NBA. Given all the injuries they've had, they're pretty close to where they should be in the standings. They're still a very dangerous team in a playoff series, but they're not dominant team, even though they have the ability to play at exceptionally high level. Outside of Luka and Kyrie on offense, this team has nothing but inconsistent players on both ends of the floor.

There's not a single team ahead of Dallas in the standings that would trade their 3rd or 4th best players for the Mavs 3rd or 4th best players, and the same is probably true for the Mavs 5th best player. The current Western Conference is the most stacked conference I've ever seen. It takes more than two great players to be one of the top teams in this conference, especially when one of those two great players has already missed 25 games because of injury.

That style will never win but prime Russ and Harden as point guards are championship caliber if the team is deep enough. One athletic shot blocking lob threat in Capela would have turned iso Harden and Russ into pnr demons with good wing defense and shooting but the franchise is mid and they didn't pay for it.

Fire Kidd. I said it forever. Kidd and Luka will not get the championship. Kidd is not a good coach. Kidd is only good in hyping Luca up so that Kidd will keep his job and get the credit for Luka's rise.
It's easy to scapegoat Kidd, and 90% of Dallas fans will blame him, but I still think the roster is lacking. There's not a single team ahead of Dallas in the standings that would trade their 3rd or 4th best players for the Mavs 3rd or 4th best players, and the same is probably true for the Mavs 5th best player.
The current Western Conference is the most stacked conference I've ever seen. It takes more than two great players to be one of the top teams in this conference, especially when one of those two great players has already missed 25 games because of injury.
I think that this comment underestimates the roster and how good a prime Luka is, I get where you’re coming from but even as stacked as the East is and the injuries at least in my opinion they should be better than they are.
I watched a prime Harden nearly carry a worse roster to the 1 seed in a stacked West, I think Luka is close to if not equal to a prime Harden and I also think that his roster is better.

I also don't think that the Western Conference in the 2017-18 season was nearly as difficult as it is today. I'd also say that Rockets team was also more talented than this Dallas team. That's nice that James Harden got the 1 seed, but then they lost in the WCF to a lower seeded team. Luka already been to the WCF, and the Mavs took out the 1 seed to get there.
I seen Jason Kidd take the Nets from being a 26 win team to back to back Finals appearances as that team's only All Star, but what does that have to do with today? Put prime Kidd in either conference today and that's not happening, because the competition is a lot better today than it was then. It's not an accurate assessment to compare 2018 to 2024, the landscape of the conference has changed multiple times between 2018 and 2024.
You also not accounting for the fact that Dallas has been one of the most injured teams in the league, including Kyrie missing 22 games. If the Mavs had stayed mostly healthy this season, then I believe they'd be in the same group as the Clippers, Nuggets, Thunder, and Wolves.

The problem is Luka, he holds the ball to long on offense instead of moving it around the same way James Harden did in Houston. Luka isn't winning and getting to the playoffs because he doesn't play good team basketball by keeping the ball moving and getting everyone involved. Not to mention he's a terrible defensive player, Luka is only good on a bad team. If you surrounded Luka with other super stars on his team he wouldn't average 35, he would look like he did in the all star game. Atleast James Harden took the weak Rockets teams to the playoffs just about every year playing the same way Luka plays. The way they both play being so ball dominate is not a recipe for winning championships.

If Steven Adams could shoot or was a better rim protector they have a better chance, still not enough against teams like GS who went deep into their pockets to win. Harden Rockets too they didn't want to go into luxury tax and they were always missing that winning piece because of it. Rockets with Russ and Harden would have been scary if they just kept Capela and still added a Covington type 3 and D wing. After that crazy MVP season Russ deserved that supermax but it only made things even tougher for him when his numbers started dropping. That style will never win but prime Russ and Harden as point guards are championship caliber if the team is deep enough. One athletic shot blocking lob threat in Capela would have turned iso Harden and Russ into pnr demons with good wing defense and shooting but the franchise is mid and they didn't pay for it.
