Among the singer and studio musicians who recorded for Hit Records were Sammy Moore (of Sam & Dave fame), Ray Stevens and young girl vocalist Alpha Zoe. One Hit release in 1965 was "Keep on Dancin'" by the Gentrys.

1967. Doesn't seem like that long ago. Thanks for posting this!

Since I was about 6 years old I've had a Hit label 45 by this group, the Chellows called The Sun Will Still Shine. The B side is the Cords version of the Animals Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. I've always known Hit was a budget label that had unknowns doing big hits, but what I've never known was who originally did The Sun Will Still Shine? I never heard that song anywhere else.

Nobody else did most likely. For a while the label would put a soundalike hit on one side of the record and an original written by their in-house writers (usually Bobby Russell, Bergen White or the head of the label and his wife) on the other side in hopes that the song would be picked up by a major artist. I've only found one instance where that happened though. In 1965, The Chellows recorded a song called "I'm Sure Going To Miss Her", written by Bobby Russell. The next year, Gary Lewis and The Playboys turned it into a Top 10 hit under the title "Sure Gonna Miss Her" (which of course spawned another recording on the Hit label, this time by Ed Hardin).

I had this record as a Kid! The flip side was GEORGY GIRL as sung by the group
The Chords (I think) - of course it was just sung by studio singers and musicians but I remember it as being a pretty cute recording - do you think maybe you could load that tune here? No one else has....
