I love the difference of approach. I probably would want to take Rahdo's advice while on vacation, but when traveling Cardboard Rhino wins for me. Her list gives me good ideas for the bicycle/camping travel trips I enjoy. So thank you Cardboard Rhino!
I agree with Rahdo. It’s difficult to find time to play heavy games at home - there always seem to be household chores, etc to get done first. But my husband and I will bring a few big games on vacation - looking to breaking out gloomhaven in the fall when we spend a week up north at a cabin relaxing.
Thanks for having Eleni on as your guest. I had no knowledge of her channel before this. Wow, some really great content! I appreciate both of your lists. On business travel, I am often traveling by car and Richard's list is more in line with what we would bring along. But when I travel by air, it is more like Eleni's A few that I would add for the small box games. 100 Swords. It plays fantastic solo for those times I am traveling alone. Doesn't take up a lot of space and plays well in hotel rooms and lobbies. A game that should probably get more attention. One Deck Dungeon and Dungeon Roll. Two sides of the same coin. Small footprint, easy to take in a backpack or suitcase. Castles of Burgundy the Dice Game. As with 100 Swords, the small footprint is a big plus as is it's great solo play. Just remember to bring enough pencils and a sharpener :-) Herbaceous Welcome to the Dungeon, Welcome Back to the Dungeon Okey Dokey Since I can't really bring La Havre, Harbour is a good small box alternative. Age of War - not sure why this one doesn't get more attention. It is a fun press-your-luck game where you can mitigate the chaos of the dice if you play them instead of letting them play you. Oh My Goods plus the Longsdale expansion. For both of your lists, Tiny Epic Galaxies, Tiny Epic Defenders. I hope that next year we can put Tiny Epic Zombies on the list.
ironic, Rahdo is about to start a multi month travel session and he doesn't have the games on his list. I think it be good to know if he took any games on his self on his travel.
It was nice being able to see 2 different perspectives. I’ve never heard of Cardboard Rhino’s channel but I’ll have to subscribe, great small travel list and so gorgeous!
Interesting that there were no Steve Finn or Tiny Epic games on either list! Not that anyone gives two hoots, but mine would be: Tiny Epic Galaxies, Oh My Goods, Kingdomino, Jaipur, Great Heartland Hauling Co., Capo dei Capi, Biblios, The Grizzled, Fleet (w/Arctic Bounty), and Hive Honorable mentions: SOS Titanic, Deep Sea Adventure, Targi, and Lost Cities. Now I want to go travel!!! Thank you both for the lists and the time - have a safe journey, Richard! Btw, do the dogs get to come immediately or do they have to go through quarantine? Kathy and I are MORE than happy to dog sit until you get settled! ;-)
I love Tiny Epic Galaxies, Jaipur and Lost Cities as well! All great small box games! While not small on the table, one deck dungeon is a fave of mine as well as Shadowrun Crossfire if you cram it all in the expansion box.
Great video! Don't be embarrassed of your list, Richard! The games my wife and I pack for vacation is a pretty close blend of both of your lists. Some bigger, some smaller. Something for every situation. But, always Targi and Jaipur.
I loved the tale of how you came about your name, Cardboard Rhino. In a game of Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, I was once the murderer, and was successfully caught in about 20seconds because of clues that I thought nobody would ever link together... Kashgar is being released in English this year by Grail Games - preorders should be shipping in April, and then to retail a month or two after that. I've been hoping to get this one since your initial run through, Rahdo, and snapped it up for preorder when they first listed it about six months ago. Can't wait to get it! Good luck with the move, and I hope you kept some of the games you just mentioned as a great way to de-stress throughout the process!
I love the travel lists and think that as long as the game packs up small that it works well for a list. One of the big things that I need to consider for a travel game is how easy it is to teach to non gamers. My list of what I have (a rough ranking) 1. Lost Cities - amazing gameplay with an excellent 3p variant (subtract 15 points) 2. Campy Creatures - fun game for 3-5 players (can play 2 but...) 3. Sushi Go Party - instant hit with non gamers 4. Zany Penguins - fun game that is lighter than Arboretum 5. Hive Pocket - I have played this in a natural hot spring 6. One Deck Dungeon - solo game with 2p coop option 7. Jaipur - really nice 2p game 8. Onirim (or any Oniverse game) - can just play the app 9. Coup - fun deduction game 10. BANG! TDG - excellent large group game Some games that I plan to add by the end of the year and some of these could be in the new top ten. Mint Works/Delivery - After the Virus - Pocket Mars - Pentaquark - Pulp Detective - Palm Island - Herbalism - Friday Unsure of backing Songbirds and Fire in the Library on Kickstarter but they would be candidates for the top 10 I will check out Troll and Dolores some more. They look interesting.
Love how their lists are complete opposite! I think mine would be in the middle, toward rahdo's but definitely not as heavy. My objectives for travel games are: portability and depth. This means my go to travel games are Race for the Galaxy, Mottainai, Castles of Burgundy the card game, LOTR card game. For something a little lighter (for trips that will already be exhausting), Flip City or Jaipur. If we're going someplace where we have friends to visit, we can throw in a Sushi Go, Isle of Skye or 8 minute empire legends. All very portable and very fun for different moods.
One short of 10 games! So to round it up, I'll add Citadels, which is very fun for two players, but can be played with up to 8 people! It's just a bunch of cards and a few coins.
It’s fun to see different preferences of travel games. My criteria are like hers: light in weight, gateway preferred but I don’t mind table space as all as I will only play board game on hotels’ table after a long day itinerary.
Rahdo actually travels with the games on his list. He and Jen got started gaming when they were on a trip. He loves it when he can fit a game into a smaller expansion box to make it easier for traveling.
Hey Rahdo, what about Castles of Burgundy Dice Game?! I love that game, is so tiny and meaty; and you said that you played it a lot when u got back from Essen.
Rahdo is moving and I've already checked prices of a cheap flight to Malta to take my wife away for a long weekend. She would have sun and I chance to meet Rahdo ;)
Rhado could you do a video on how best to pack games for a move? I've got a move coming up this summer and it is my first move after entering the board gaming hobby. Thanks!
i didn't do anything fancy at all. i just put the game boxes in the moving boxes, no extra padding, no 'little games tucked inside big games'. just going as fast as possible, trying to make the best use of space as possible. i'm not worried about the boxes getting crunched since they all get stacked into a super cube and wrapped up in plastic wrap on the palette :)
He has a recent video where Paulo runs through an insert that you can buy and it all fits very nicely. You can leave out some of the red/blue tokens if you like as they are all not needed.
i did leave some duplicate components out, but i don't remember which, and the game is packed away on a slow boat to seattle right now, so i can't check
Thanks for the tip. I actually already did just that right after watching your video, and the game will be sent out to me Friday! Thanks so much, I've wanted this game since I first saw it and your video reminded me just how much I wanted it. I'm super excited :D PS Granna was great btw, very helpful and responded to my emails in a few minutes. Couldn't recommend them highly enough. The game was a bargain as well, even with postage costs (about $50USD)
If I were to make a travel games top ten I would have also factored in how "beach-compatible" a game is. Hive is pretty good on that end. Something like Tantrix would also have a spot. What do you say Rahdo, Top ten beach games?
hmm, interesting, though tough as i don't really play abstracts, and that's where you get those really good heavy blocky piece games. still, might be a topic to consider :)
Interesting choices - life is never straightforward with Rahdo. Elini's Troll game choice seems interesting, but hard to find out more about it. By the way, was wandering where you are moving to? Somebody's mentioned Seatle, or something?
I see now - big life change for you. Wishing you all the best. Just to let you know that everything you have done in the last few years has clearly been appreciated by so many people.
Sadly I've never played a successful (fun) game of Hanabi. It really takes a certain type of people to make it work. Alpha males or aggressive/anal people tend to hate this game.
Great lists and I very much appreciate this late cooperation. My only complaint might be that I found Rhado too much dominating the discussion while I would have enjoyed a more balanced approach even better....
Oink games have some very undecipherable "translated" rules. I used to love them, but teaching them proved harder than their play time needed. Deep Sea, Insider and Twins excluded. Insider's text was too small.
Thanks for sharing! You're extremely talented. I really like to travel too:)I only recently shared my first ever movie - My travel diary in Queenstown. Eep!Would certainly really like your feed-back on my video/editing so that I can also get better like you!
I love the difference of approach. I probably would want to take Rahdo's advice while on vacation, but when traveling Cardboard Rhino wins for me. Her list gives me good ideas for the bicycle/camping travel trips I enjoy. So thank you Cardboard Rhino!
Her list is great!
I've been taking Gloomhaven on travels. The box fits perfectly into a carry on suitcase.
Just a quick, light game of Gloomhaven
😂😂😂
Kamran Zaffar thats so weird i do that too
'BUT...enough about HER...' LOL 'Oh, I thought it was about your nose... no wait, your nose is great.' Oh, Rahdo. You are so smooth. :D
That comment was for Jen's benefit, who's watching this video from Oregon.
He's just nervous. That's one foxy rhino.
He's the rhino, poor girl...
Smooth like silk
A.J., Jen's in the video.
Cardboard Rhino is great and great to see some collab here, awesome. Very neat topic :)
I agree with Rahdo. It’s difficult to find time to play heavy games at home - there always seem to be household chores, etc to get done first. But my husband and I will bring a few big games on vacation - looking to breaking out gloomhaven in the fall when we spend a week up north at a cabin relaxing.
Safe travels Richard and Jen! I have literally missed Malta every day since we left it. Can't wait to go back!
Great collab! Love both channels and the list complemented each other well.
Eleni is beautiful and a great guest.
"Top Ten Travel Games For People Who Like to Visit New Places and Then Sit In Their Hotel Room All Day Playing Board Games" :)
Rhino: Top 10 Small Boxes, Great Games.
Rahdo: Top 10 whatever
=D
Nice collaboration between you two. Good to see different perspectives on travel games. Evoked some new ideas!.. 💕
Totally agree with Targi! And Glen More is in my top 10 of all time!
Thanks for having Eleni on as your guest. I had no knowledge of her channel before this. Wow, some really great content!
I appreciate both of your lists. On business travel, I am often traveling by car and Richard's list is more in line with what we would bring along. But when I travel by air, it is more like Eleni's

Welcome to the Dungeon, Welcome Back to the Dungeon
Okey Dokey
Since I can't really bring La Havre, Harbour is a good small box alternative.
Having the gameplay in the background is *great*.
I've brought Shadowrun: Crossfire on a trip, too!
It is great to see you two working together!
ironic, Rahdo is about to start a multi month travel session and he doesn't have the games on his list. I think it be good to know if he took any games on his self on his travel.
It was nice being able to see 2 different perspectives. I’ve never heard of Cardboard Rhino’s channel but I’ll have to subscribe, great small travel list and so gorgeous!
Cool to see the Rhino here... and to hear about the origin of her name! :-D I wondered about that, as well. Safe trip the U.S., Richard!
Interesting that there were no Steve Finn or Tiny Epic games on either list! Not that anyone gives two hoots, but mine would be:

Agreed. Steve Finn and Tiny Epic pack a lot of game in small boxes.
I forgot Great Hauling Co and Biblios (but did get Herbaceous). Good list.
I love Tiny Epic Galaxies, Jaipur and Lost Cities as well! All great small box games! While not small on the table, one deck dungeon is a fave of mine as well as Shadowrun Crossfire if you cram it all in the expansion box.
Great Collab video. btw, Love the podcast!
Kashgar English version preorders are due to be shipped in April!
i love rhino’s list!!!

Rhino's selection is great. My favourite games are hers. You guys do a good duo for board game critique. More please
if i was still in malta, i'd love to team up with her again :)

Jaipur, fantastic choice!

Your list is great rahdo, it brings a different perspective on what is a travel game. It makes sense :)
Subscribed for board game greatness! Surprised to not see "The Game" at all, we are having great fun with it while traveling!
i do want to try that someday
After watching countless of channels, Cardboard rhino is clearly my favourite.
she is awesome!
Gotta have hive on that list
That's it. I've seen too many positive Hive reviews lately. Next trip to the FLGS, it will be mine :-)
Always in my backpack in all my travels!
An awesome travel game that can be even played on the beach unlike the card games usually.
Instant like as I saw you both! Instant.
Thanks for this Richard! I enjoy the crossovers when you do them.
Perfect Italian pronunciatio for "Le città perdute"!!! Good video, I was just thinking about something to take with me in the luggage. ❤️
cardboard rhino was much more realistic.
Rahdo actually travels with the games on his list. He and Jen got started gaming when they were on a trip. He loves it when he can fit a game into a smaller expansion box to make it easier for traveling.
Spectacular. I have to say, Rhino's picks seem more practical.
I agree with Rhino, it is better than chess. And for so many reasons.
Rahdo, Wholeheartedly agree on Shadowrun: Crossfire! It goes with us EVERYWHERE!
Great games! Searching for the Troll game - any ideas where I might locate this?
wow, that seems tough to find. you might want to contact the publisher directly: oinkgames.com/
hello Rahdo, which scoreboard app do you use? I am looking for a good one. Thanks!
i don't know if it's the best, i didn't really do much research, but i'm using KeepScore on android :)
The Elainie (sp?) reminds me of someone from Germany I met while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.
Hey Rahdo, what about Castles of Burgundy Dice Game?! I love that game, is so tiny and meaty; and you said that you played it a lot when u got back from Essen.
seriously considered it
Bye bye, Malta :(
I love this so much. Rahdo, you're way better with a co-host, imo.
this is awesome!!!
Are you moving to the Seattle area?
oops sorry didn't see your question, you can check faq.rahdo.com #22 for details
Rahdo is moving and I've already checked prices of a cheap flight to Malta to take my wife away for a long weekend. She would have sun and I chance to meet Rahdo ;)
Rahdo: Have you never played Hanabi with more then 2 players?Rhino: Nooooo, 2-5 players, ooopsie, nooooo
Me->*faceplam*🙈🤪
Rhado could you do a video on how best to pack games for a move? I've got a move coming up this summer and it is my first move after entering the board gaming hobby. Thanks!

Thanks!
Rahdo, how have you fit Duet, Pictures, and base Codenames into one box? Did you throw any components out?
He has a recent video where Paulo runs through an insert that you can buy and it all fits very nicely. You can leave out some of the red/blue tokens if you like as they are all not needed.
G Skub, I didn't think that insert works for Duet. Pablo showed base game + Pictures + the adult one.
i did leave some duplicate components out, but i don't remember which, and the game is packed away on a slow boat to seattle right now, so i can't check
Good luck with the move, I keep thinking hope your dogs are okay with the move :-)
Never say never maybe one day you will be back in Malta.....!!!
Capital is one of the few grail games I really want and just can't find anywhere!
you should contact the publisher at www.granna.pl/en/ and see if they've got any suggestions to help find it
Thanks for the tip. I actually already did just that right after watching your video, and the game will be sent out to me Friday! Thanks so much, I've wanted this game since I first saw it and your video reminded me just how much I wanted it. I'm super excited :D

When rhino covered her nose lol! Rhino you have a beautiful nose - that's weird to say! 😂😂
Card Board Rhino !! ... omg, your apartment is a shell ! feeling sentimental (-:
why didnt you do more stuff together? :(
becuase it takes easily 2+ hours for either of us to reach the other's place. otherwise i would have loved to collaborate more :)
Rahdo hits walk off on way out town.
I bring all my big box games 😅😅 like Cry Havoc, Tokaido..... 🤣 yeah I’m insane!
If I were to make a travel games top ten I would have also factored in how "beach-compatible" a game is. Hive is pretty good on that end. Something like Tantrix would also have a spot. What do you say Rahdo, Top ten beach games?
hmm, interesting, though tough as i don't really play abstracts, and that's where you get those really good heavy blocky piece games. still, might be a topic to consider :)
are any of these solo games?
none of hers are, but a few of mine are (you can always play co-op games solo, avenue can solo)
I'm not sure he grasped the concept of travel games. His is like... fill a suitcase with 10 games.
I need a reprint for shadowrun crossfire in the uk.
I wish they'd just make a smaller box if they're not going to support it any longer.
sr:cf will be getting a 2nd edition this year
Yes! Can’t wait to preorder a copy 😄
Cardboard Rhino. 😍😍
Interesting choices - life is never straightforward with Rahdo. Elini's Troll game choice seems interesting, but hard to find out more about it.

i know what you mean. i have definitely had a bad game of hanabi or two :)
Rahdo, where are you moving to???? As always, a pleasure watching the video.
faq.rahdo.com #22 :)
Great lists and I very much appreciate this late cooperation. My only complaint might be that I found Rhado too much dominating the discussion while I would have enjoyed a more balanced approach even better....
i can't disagree
Space Hulk: Death Angel card game.
I really thought Jump Drive would have made your top travelling games
light games aren't generally what we're looking for when we're on vacation
rahdo Yeah that's the explanation I got from watching the video :) thanks for the reply, youre the best
I didn’t know Cardboard Rhino lived in Europe . 😁 Where is from?
she's greek :)
I'm looking froward to getting my copy of Palm Island. This will be my go to travel game.
Γεια σου ελεναρα 💓
Rahdo, you should have been doing lists with the Rhino years ago! She smooths out your rough spots and is more fun to look at :D
Tiny Epic Games
Coin Age?
Oink games have some very undecipherable "translated" rules. I used to love them, but teaching them proved harder than their play time needed.
Deep Sea, Insider and Twins excluded.
Insider's text was too small.
